I would love nothing better than for them to get a hit, but if they don't...I can't wait to see how they spin it then!
So what are they doing in the meantime...while they are waiting on the DNA evidence to come back?
Here's the article, Shamrock:I just heard on the radio that the police did find evidence of a forced break in at her home. So maybe it's not the same guy that was just walking into random homes in the area?
What I am guessing is that they rounded up all the homeless people with warrants out and are going to see if any of the DNA matches. What a load of uhm...well...genetic material which probably is not at all related!
Yes...it is EXACTLY what they did!!! Lazy MPD. This doesn't bode well for them, imo.
Police have arrested dozens of transients on unrelated charges as part of the investigation, but none are considered suspects in the death. The city also announced plans Wednesday to confront problems at a nearby park where the homeless congregate, although those efforts were in the works before the murder.

You would think people in Madison would be totally outraged by this performance. I have said it before...it is a GOOD thing I do not live there!!
The headlines make it SOUND good...but read the fine print!
Police make several arrests possibly connected to Zimmermann case
Madison police have made numerous arrests of possible suspects in the continuing homicide investigation of 21-year old University of Wisconsin junior Brittany Zimmermann, police announced today.
~snip~
MPD public information officer Joel DeSpain said police do not have a suspect in the case but are following many leads.
Its possible some of those weve been talking with could at some point become suspects (in the Zimmermann case), but we dont know that yet, DeSpain said. Its also possible the suspect or suspects are still on the street. At this point we do not have a suspect or suspects in the case.

OK...so here they are talking out of both sides of their mouths!! Which is it, DeSpain? Do you or do you not have a suspect or suspects?!
Hi nohwheregirl!
If you read the articles I posted, I believe there's reference to these thugs coming to this area by bus. So, maybe there's not a 'gang problem' per se there, meaning they don't 'live' in that area; but, they may be coming from other locations of the city and targeting that area.
I don't know if any of these recent muggings, robberies, murders are intertwined. However, IMHO, it should be investigated on IF they could be. Perhaps not this particular case, but some of the previous ones. Like the girl last summer who was last seen leaving a bar and her body was found later.
IMHO, it is not JUST a coincidence, that throughout the Great Lake area states and cities, a HUGE number of young people, most specifically college students, have disappeared after a late night of partying and or drinking. No, there's too many during the past several years to be JUST a coincidence. BOTH,.......male and female.
Just something to think about.
JMHO

Are they sure that the killer is homeless? What if it's a college student who looks very scruffy on purpose to disguise himself? Or a non homeless scruffy person?
mssheila, that if is weird; maybe LE there isn't sure if they may have caught the killer during their arrests of transients or not? I worry about the competence of this dept..
MeoW- I deleted the post about the "IF the killer is still on the loose" because it sounds like they're saying that because they've arrested so many homeless folks. *shrug*
I hope I'm wrong, but I do sincerely believe that MPD has a bunch of Barney Fife's running the show. Or Larry Moe and Curly. Shall we start calling Chief Wray by the name of Larry?
I was just browsing through some of the Madison.com forums. It's kind of interesting to see what people who live here are saying. Here's a link if anyone's interested. Hope it's okay to post it, and if it isn't, Mods- please delete.

ETA: One more thing.... MeoW- you said it could be a student who looked scruffy as a disguise. Can you imagine how lucky this killer is if he ISNT the same man that was walking into homes and businesses asking for $40 that same day, in the same area? Wow... that would be a heck of a coincidence, and awfully lucky for the murderer.
