Gathering offers hope for Barron teen missing since parents were killed
Hundreds of people attended a gathering Wednesday evening in Barron to light a "tree of hope" for 13-year-old Jayme Closs. The middle school student hasn't been seen since before her parents, James and Denise Closs, were found fatally shot in their home on Oct. 15.

"We just pray every day and we just hope for her safe return," said her uncle, Mike Closs.

Detectives have pursued thousands of tips, watched dozens of surveillance videos and spent countless hours searching for Jayme, but their efforts haven't yielded any suspects. Investigators believe Jayme was abducted.

The event was coordinated by the school and by Hormel Foods and Jennie-O Turkey Store, which employed the Closs parents.

"May this tree of hope for Jayme, filled with shining lights, be a symbol to us, to our community, that the darker it gets, the brighter light of hope shines," the Rev. Ron Matthews said.

It's been two months since someone shot and killed James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46, in their ranch home just outside Barron, Wisc., and apparently snatched their 13-year-old daughter Jayme.

Sixty days in and Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said investigators still don't know why anyone would target the family. Nor, he said, do the local, state and federal investigators — who have chased down 2,400 leads — know where Jayme is or why she was taken.

[...]

The sheriff remains steadfast in his belief that the eighth-grader at Riverview Middle School was not involved in her parents' killings. He also holds out hope she's alive based on other case examples the FBI has provided such as the Ariel Castro kidnappings in Cleveland or the abduction of Elizabeth Smart.

Fitzgerald said the case remains his department's top priority. Investigators are now looking more closely into the timeline of her parents' life hoping to unmask a clue or a tip.

[...]

Asked whether he thinks Jayme may be in the Barron area, Fitzgerald said it's not clear yet but "there isn't something to say she's not local."

"[The Closs couple] didn't do a lot of things outside of this area," he said. "So local seems to make more sense than it does with a national abduction or something like that."

Becky Bryan, a lab technician at Jennie-O, worked with James Closs for the past two years.

"Jayme, I know, was the light of his life. He loved his daughter very much. So we heard a lot about her," Bryan said. "I remember that she had her birthday party not too long ago and he had not planned on going. I think he was going to work and then changed his mind and decided to go at the last minute because he really wanted to be there for her."

The death continues to haunt them.

"It was really hard the first week, that first day because he's not coming up there," she said. "No one is expecting somebody that close to be murdered like that."

Resident Dave White said he's been trying to figure out what happened through conversations with his neighbors and what he's been reading on Facebook pages devoted to the case.

"I know the rumor mill, which is nonstop. There's all kinds of things going on, [like] drugs, sex trafficking," said White. "It's hard to comprehend what's going on when the public is not being told."

"It's been a challenging time for us all and our staff and our students have been rockstars," said Barron Area School District Administrator Diane Tremblay. "I truly believe in the good intentions of tonight."

Ceremony Saturday to mark two months since Jayme Closs' disappearance
A community is still holding onto hope as Saturday marks two months since 13-year-old Jayme Closs went missing after her parents James and Denise Closs were murdered in their Barron home.

"I want nothing more than to get my granddaughter back home," says Jayme's grandfather, RN.

"I miss our breakfast dates, her smiles and giggles and especially her hugs," says RN.

"I'm hopeful that Jayme sees this and sees the community is behind her and that she is not alone and we are all with her in spirit and we will get her home safely," says JH, a friend of the Closs family.

On Saturday, her family was still begging for anyone with information to come forward.

"We're hoping one reaches somewhere and we get that one top that we need to bring her home," says SA, Jayme's aunt.

"That's what keeps us going day to day is this community behind us, this community has been amazing, so supportive in so many ways," says JS, Jayme's aunt.

Everyone has an opinion on the mysterious Jayme Closs disappearance. Even psychics
“With any high-profile case, you’re going to have psychics come out of the woodwork,” said Joe Giacalone, a retired New York Police Department detective and a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. “There are some people who want to help and some people who are just out there.”

Psychics have contacted the authorities investigating the kidnapping of 13-year-old Jayme Closs and the shooting deaths of her parents, James, 56, and Denise, 46, in their Barron home.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said the tips, which are among the more than 2,000 that have come in since Jayme vanished, aren’t automatically discounted because of the source.

“We look at every single tip, no matter where it comes from,” said Fitzgerald.

Jayme Closs Case: 2 Months Marked Since 13-Year-Old Wisconsin Girl Was Abducted
It was an anniversary no one hoped to mark.

Two months have passed since Jayme Closs, 13, is believed to have been abducted from her Wisconsin home after her parents were shot dead.

Loved ones and friends gathered Saturday at Riverview Middle School in Barron, where Jayme is a student, to commit to finding her alive, ABC News reported.

A motive in the killings and the abduction has not been released. It is not clear if the killings and suspected kidnapping was targeted or random.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the FBI are investigating every lead that has come in. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the discovery of Jayme. Half was offered by the Jennie-O Turkey Store, where Jayme’s parents worked.

"It’s the Christmas season," Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald reportedly said at the vigil. "It’s time to believe and it’s time to bring hope so we can bring a 13-year-old girl home."

Tree lit at Jennie-O/Turkey Store for Jayme Closs
A 35-foot-tall tree was lit in the courtyard of Jennie-O/Turkey Store headquarters in Willmar Thursday for a missing 13-year-old girl from Barron Wisconsin. Jayme Closs hasn't been seen since her parents, Jim and Denise Closs, were found murdered in their home October 15th. Both were long-time Jennie-O employees, and company CEO Steve Lykken says with the encouragement of parent company Hormel CEO Jim Snee, they decided to dedicate the tree in Willmar to Jayme, showing unity with Barron Wisconsin, and hopefully drawing attention to Jayme's case...

Jayme Closs vanished after her parents were murdered in October. Has the case gone cold?
It’s been 10 weeks and counting since 13-year-old Jayme Closs disappeared after her parents were shot to death at their home. Thousands of leads have been checked, searchers have combed the area and digital evidence has been closely examined.

But Jayme’s disappearance —– and the murders of her parents, James, 56, and Denise, 46 — remain unsolved and uncharged.

That begs this question: Has the Closs case gone cold?

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald flatly rejects that notion. Nationally recognized cold case experts agree, saying there are other investigative avenues to explore.

“The case remains the No. 1 priority of the sheriff’s department and we still have the FBI and DCI (Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation) on site working on this case with us,” Fitzgerald stated in a mid-December post on the sheriff department’s Facebook page.

“There is nothing new to report but we continue to follow up on leads and we are trying to build a longer timeline of (the victims’) lives through digital and social records in hopes of leading us to a clue.”

‘She’s out there:’ Loved ones pray for return of 13-year-old Jayme Closs, missing for 2+ months
Family members and friends of 13-year-old Jayme Closs gathered for a vigil on Sunday night, Dec. 30 -- lighting the "tree of hope" first erected in December in her honor.

During Sunday's vigil, the tree was blessed with holy water as loved ones prayed and sang songs -- releasing green and blue balloons to show support for the Closs family, in hopes of bringing Jayme Home.

The 13-year-old girl's relatives said events like this mean a lot.

"We're just so grateful for community support. They've supported us, supported Jim and Denise. You know, she's out there. We want her to come home safe and sound," said Mike Closs, Jayme's uncle.

"I mean, look at all the people here, and it's been overwhelming. We as a family cannot thank people enough for all the support they have given us from Day One," said Kelly Engelhartt, relative.

"It just shows the community that we're from, and in a time of need, that people come support -- 'cause we've all grown up here. Like Kelly said, the overwhelming love and support we've had just shows you the type of community we come from. We're very grateful for that," said Mike Closs.

They should hire Tim Miller equu search from Texas to investigate this!!

Meanwhile it would be nice to hear they are invesitgating the people at the plant they worked at.

Verify: Social media posts about Closs not credible, sheriff says
The Barron County Sheriff's Department investigated a picture on social media this weekend claiming to show Jayme Closs, but the photo is not considered credible at this time, Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told KARE 11 on Monday.

The origin of the photo is unknown, but it has been widely shared and discussed in multiple Facebook groups and even appeared on a "true crime" YouTube Page. It appears to show a younger girl in the company of an unidentified man.

The picture was sent to a law enforcement tipline at some point, but Sheriff Fitzgerald said it does not appear to be Jayme. It is unclear how the photo spread online in the first place.

Family members have received messages alerting them to the picture, but a relative also told KARE 11 unequivocally that the photo is not of Jayme Closs.

Sheriff Fitzgerald said earlier this month that law enforcement has received dozens of reports about potential sightings in recent weeks, but they are all unfounded.

Jayme Closs relatives work to keep her disappearance a priority, investigators set to meet
84 days.

That is how long it's been since relatives have seen Jayme Closs. As the teenager's disappearance nears the three-month mark, loved ones want to make sure they do what they can to keep attention on the 13-year-old.

Sunday, JS, Closs' aunt, said even though it's difficult to talk about her missing niece she is doing so regardless because she "wants to keep awareness out there" and "keep her face out there."

At JS's home in Barron County, pictures of Jayme along with her parents, James and Denise, are everywhere you look. Denise is JS's sister. And Jayme is more of a daughter than a niece to JS, who helped raise Jayme and take care of her during daycare. JS showed a pile of large posters, green ribbon stickers, car magnets and signs the family hands out to anyone who will display them, varying from businesses to citizens.

JS also said the family raised enough money to create and install a dozen billboards up on a number of highways in Wisconsin, including Highway 8, the main drag through town, along with Highway 29, I-35 and I-94.
