Just trying to catch up, but what struck me about the obit from an analysis standpoint is that it plainly states that Denise was preceded in death by James. That might seem like an inconsequential statement, or an obvious fact for those of us that have reviewed this case. But if James was shot first, and Denise only a few minutes later could you conclusively say who died first? I know it's grim business to analyze this, but doesn't that phrasing tell us something new about the crime?

Perhaps there was an obvious time gap between the two deaths/gun shots? Or was Denise heard still alive on the 911 call? This also informs us that the two gun shots heard by the neighbors, most likely weren't the only gun shots in the house that night. I know many of your theories support this timeline, but somehow LE and the family knows conclusively.

Both are shown as predeceased by their spouse.

James was preceded in death by his father, James Closs and wife, Denise Closs.

It also says she preceded him in death

We live in the suburbs, yet one block away from a large canyon. In our neighborhood on any given night we will see coyotes, skunks, opossums, raccoons (as large as dogs), and California grey foxes, bobcats and mountain lions (but usually only on camera as they are incredibly shy except one time a male came into a neighbor’s home in the day - it was quite the event). Hearing gunfire in the middle of the night even with all the wildlife would definitely prompt calls to 911. I have attached a photo of the California grey fox that hangs out in our backyard...this was after it had eaten the neighbors’ free range Thanksgiving turkeys...
It doesn’t happen here every night, but it does happen. My area must be odd, compared to most places, then. MOO

Obituaries are written by family and funeral home. I have noticed strange wording and phrases before in obits for family members who died in car crashes or other tragedies.

Also in obits for murder/suicide victims some of the wording about who survived whom has been strange, with both listed as survivors even though the murder victim of course died before the suicide victim.

This may have been pointed out.

Why in the dispatch log do the police go to St Croix Casino?
^^^
Had one or both of the parents had a large win lately ?
Or not ?
Some perps will go to great lengths for even a surprisingly diminutive amount.
Which would point to a possible motive-- with their poor daughter as an added 'reward'. Sorry to type that-- was trying to think like the criminals.
At least LE could comb through security footage at the casino and see if anyone was eyeing the Closs' couple.

Did you call the tipline?
Uh. I should clarify:
I meant I saw a photo of the car the pulled up from Osh Kosh. I saw it online after it was pulled up. It had numbers written along the side as if it had been marked for replacement parts perhaps by a dealer? I don’t know if that’s what the markings mean or if LE made the markings after the pulled it up? No idea. Either way I didn’t call tip line as I’m confident LE has seen the car either live or via photos etc. I’m sure they’re investigating either way.

Emergency department staff are always alert for patients with injuries that appear to be crime-related. Also for injuries that don’t match the description of the incident or mechanism of injury that the patient provides.

But if you were a criminal, would you attend emergency?
I would think, you would try to handle the injury alone, or request help from a friend, providing some story, unrelated to the crime.
If very serious, you would drive many, many miles, for Medical Assistance, where this case isn't publicized.
MOO.

So does being on WebSleuths...

Skipper, my friends, not interested in Websleuths, state I now have a negative, warped sense of life in following these cases.:(:(
I believe, Websleuths makes us more aware, plus we gain loads of knowledge in so many fields, due to the great Posts.
It is often 'going to school'.:)

Inho It's someone known to the family maybe someone who did work repairs, landscaping, for them, or that Denise helped out as stated in the obit.
I think this person 18ish to early 20s fixated on Jaymie, and secretly might have groomed her. He's angry and resentful at her parents for getting in the way of 'romance'.
I think he went there to confront the parents and elope with Jaymie.
He brought a friend drugged out, and crazy enough to go along with it for backup.
I think things went sideways once they got to the Closs home.
whether Jaymie was aware of these plans or not I'm not sure. I certainly don't think she had anything to do with her parents murder.
I can't imagine the shock, and horror, and fear she must be dealing with.
Sounds crazy I know, but so does invading a families home, killing two people, and abducting their daughter.

Oh! Sorry, I misunderstood! :p
