You did read that - the neighbors said they were unaware of the police activity at the Closs home until later in the day. Not sure what interview it was in with the neighbors but it was in the early morning. Don't know if a time was mentioned.

I don't know the veracity of that though because there would have been sirens and flashing lights. It would not have been quiet. There were more than a dozen vehicles dispatched to that scene. There would have been police cars on that road parked and lights flashing - not all of them would be in the Closs driveway.
Depending on how the call was dispatched, they may have gone with just lights, no siren. After the initial response there would have been no reason for sirens. Just a thought?

The log makes it sound like James opened the door to officers. That does not appear to be the case. All indications are that he was deceased at the time the police arrived.
I think that the police recorded it like he opened the door for the perpetrators rather than the police. Just a guess. edit: someone mentioned this before me!

Cremains, maybe? I can't make sense of this unless the article is somehow incompletely researched and written and I saw the photo.
Certainly possible the couple sharing a casket. Also, a Catholic funeral held inside the church is a religious Rite and/or Mass. It's possible the casket in the church belonged to Denise, who was reportedly very active in her church. Reports have indicated there will be a private burial at a later date, which could include 2 caskets. This day belongs to their family and friends. MOO

ETA: Media intrusion always amazes me.

Initial reports citing the family as the source clearly indicated the door was "shot in." (It's very common for family to make statements before they are cautioned by LE not to speak further). I also believe it's possible the neighbors heard the door being shot in, but not necessarily gunfire that happened inside the house.

I agree that LE has never publicly confirmed whether door was shot-in or kicked in, and all we really have is speculation:

Door Kicked or Shot in?
[...]

1.) Relatives of the family said that the front door of the Barron home where Jayme disappeared from without a trace was shot in.

It is one of the few details about the crime scene that have been released as police continue to keep a tight lid on their investigation.

Fitzgerald said on Tuesday that the 911 call came from a cell phone while inside the home, but no one was communicating to the dispatcher.

2.) Jayme’s relatives told CBS News that the front door to the family home was shot in.

Fitzgerald has said Jayme is not a suspect in the killings. At a Monday press conference, he said, “We don’t have a suspect, we don’t have any leads right now.”

3.) Investigators ramped up the search for 13-year-old Jayme ClossTuesday, deploying canines and releasing new photos of the teen, whose parents were found dead in the family's Wisconsin home. Relatives of Jayme told CBS News the front door to the house was shot in. Jayme has been missing since sheriff's deputies discovered her parents' bodies Monday morning.

Maybe the storm door was shot in, and he kicked in the other door.

Thank you very much Jethro4WS. It just seems strange to me that if there was an immediate search of the surrounding area when Jayme was discovered missing this would have included the neighbour's property just next door. Seems odd if they didn't. So if police were searching in the neighbour's back garden for an escaped killer and a hostage, the neighbours heard nothing? Something not right. Perhaps this area was not searched?

They may not have been “skittish” they may have simply kept odd hours.

If someone knocks on your door, you may not open it, but you might peek through the window to see who it is.

Or you may open it a crack.
No way did he open his door at that time of night. I don’t believe it. But he may have been looking to see who was out there. Sounds like he was carrying a large shotgun based on neighbors’s account. That would have been hard to conceal.

I'm so sorry if I didn't state my question in the right way. I've only been able to go to one funeral in my lifetime, my grandmother's when I was 14, and I've obviously had very dear friends and close family who passed away since.
I cannot bear the formal rituals of death when the people I loved had such a fun and vibrant time in life. This is a long-standing " failure" of mine, but I've had to accept it. I know the flowers and words bring comfort to many people, but not to me, personally. It's just sadder. I find ways to honor their living that would be special to them, and hope those around me understand.

Thank you so much for your answer. I have the utmost love and caring for the Closs family and wish so much this tragedy hadn't decimated them.

I'm sad to say it but I think this case is destined to grow cold bar a stroke of luck. I know LE hold things back but I just get the impression they know little more now than they did straight after it happened. The 2000 person search came across as a stab in the dark rather than based on any actual real intelligence.

I think it's going to take a miracle to get Jayme back alive after this long, let's hope we get one.

They searched neighbor’s house according to interview w Ms. Smrekar.
Yes I know that but if they searched immediately after discovering the absence of Jayme surely it would have included the next property? But no knowledge of police presence until next morning? So no search extended to the next property for hours?

Based on the evidence that we are aware of, it’s possible that he never opened that door.

Him opening that door is not excluded though. We can’t say with any degree of certainty if he cracked the door or not.

The gun could have been concealed by the perpetrator, perhaps near his legs, propped against a wall, or hidden from sight in some other manner.
