With all the video footage, the sheriff would be know whether or not James was at the casino. My question is why he answered that in the manner in which he did. If it has no bearing on the case, why not just say yes or no? Or just say "no comment"?

Unless he had a disguise (unlikely) or the cameras at the casino weren't all working and they understandably don't want to reveal that.

Is it just me or does there seem to be A LOT of mystery surrounding James Closs ? We've heard that Denise and Jayme were active in the church...nothing about James' involvement in the church. We've heard glowing comments about Denise and Jayme...not one word about James, apart from comments from a HS friend who said he loved football. We know that Denise and Jayme attended a family party Sunday afternoon...no one seems to know where the heck James was. Was he at work ? We don't know. Apparently not even Denise's family knows for sure where he was. Was he at the casino ? The sheriff doesn't know.

Am I the only one bothered by all the lack of information about one of the murder victims ? It's almost like no one even knows the guy.

There is an air of mystery about James, especially on that Sunday. Maybe Denise was covering for him at the party, saying he was at work when perhaps he wasn't. But then if he wasn't at work or the party, where exactly was he that day?

People are asking about the Dad's where abouts....

I was taken back by the radio interview with the Sheriff when asked was the dad at the casino the night of the murder. The Sheriff said he doesn't have an answer to that.

What? Was he at work? At home watching football? At the casino?

In my years of interrogating my teenage children, I have learned that sometimes what isn't said is just as important (or more) than what is.

That’s what I said in the first thread!
I dunno. I don't think people in Barron were living with that kind of fear. I wouldn't think it would be unusual to answer the door without a gun. These are the same people who don't lock their doors and leave the keys in the ignition. With no gas stations open that late someone may need help. There is a sense of naivety in these towns.

LE is creating mysteries by some of their replies. They should say “no comment” to everything, rather than leave some things hanging, i.e the rumor of a boyfriend, was James at casino, etc
It is frustrating, but maybe it’s strategic for Fitzgerald. With so little being made public he must have to keep his cards close, so to speak. I’m guessing LE knows more.

That late at night? I really think they knew who was at door.

Im catching up but reading backwards through pages and seen a link was requested. Lol. Not sure its been posted yet, but heres one.
This statement was so odd to me, like he really knew. I wish he was still so sure.

I think it's the 100 percent part that threw everyone off. That's what he said at the first PC when asked about how LE would go about the investigation and whether or not he thought she was still alive. When he said, yes, 100 percent, I think he was looking on the positive side and assuring the public that they would continue to believe she was alive, and investigate with that belief, until they have evidence that proves otherwise. A couple of weeks later he was not as optimistic, when he basically said they were running on hope. I don't think they are going to give up until she is found, whether she is alive or not. Jmo

I have a question. On page one, if you scroll down it says that Sheriff could not make this an amber alert because there was no info about vehicle or suspect. It then, was an amber alert. What new information was there to make that change? Was it the first information about the black/red vehicles? Wisconsin AMBER Alert Program

I have wondered if the vehicles description was created just to meet requirements for amber alert. I can not understand how video is so poor they cant tell anything but so good they got color.

Either way I don't think it took him long to realize they were in danger. Since the door was kicked in I'm thinking that if he did initially open the door, he closed it again or did something to try to prevent the killer from coming in. I wouldn't think the killer would ring the bell ( if there was one) because that would take away the element of surprise and he would be at a disadvantage. Jmo

I live in a town like that and it's definitely not naivety on our part. We are aware that bad things happen, we've had bad things happen to us, and we know that innocent people can be victims of crime. We do watch the news, after all, and I don't know a single person who hasn't been touched by some kind of crime. The reason we leave our doors unlocked is much more complicated than that and has to do with a culture and history that often has a stronger pull than fear.

I don't think so. They didn't find out about the cars until much later and it was not included in the Amber Alert. They are not even sure if the cars were involved or they were just witnesses passing by the area. Imo
