Detective says he suspected Krista Sypher case was a homicide within days of disappearance

STEVENS POINT - A Plover detective became suspicious that the Krista Sypher missing person case could be a homicide case within days of her husband reporting her missing, according to testimony Thursday.
[.....]
By March 27, police suspected the missing person case could be a homicide, Plover Police Detective-Sgt. Brian Noel said during testimony Thursday at the fourth day of Jason Sypher's trial. Police had learned through GPS data that Jason Sypher had taken odd routes through the Plover area the day his wife went missing, Noel said. Jason Sypher went to Menard's to buy industrial-sized garbage bags, and there were problems with some of his statements, such as where Krista Sypher went March 13 and where Jason Sypher said he went.
[.....]
Noel stopped a garbage truck after they went to the Syphers' Hoffman Drive home. Noel asked the driver to bring the Syphers' next garbage pickup to the detective. The driver brought Noel three white garbage bags that Jason Sypher had left by the curb on the next garbage day after police visited the home March 22.

Noel showed the jury items from the garbage bags on Thursday. They contained sweatshirts and other clothing that appeared to have belonged to Krista Sypher. The pocket of one sweatshirt had $49 in it, Noel said. One of the bags also held three unopened bottles of wine.
[.....]
Noel took a break from testimony Thursday afternoon when Kryshak asked to bring in an expert on cadaver dogs. Andy Falco Jimenez appeared from California by teleconference.

Jimenez has written several books on dogs, including one called "Dog Sniff Evidence," Kryshak said. Jimenez, a former police officer, said he didn't know for sure how many times he had testified as an expert witness because he did many before he realized his expertise would be in demand for trials, he said.

Sypher Trial: Several witnesses still scheduled to testify next week

PORTAGE COUNTY, Wis. (WSAW) -- The trial of a Plover man accused of killing his wife and hiding her body will continue into next week.

On Friday the court learned more about a search that was conducted by a K9 at the Sypher home. The dog alerted in several areas of the home for the smell of human remains. The defense questioned the dogs training.

On Monday the jury will return to the court to hear from several more witnesses.

Here's an article about Friday's trial:

Handler testifies that dog smelled human remains in homicide suspect Jason Sypher's house

STEVENS POINT - A dog trained to detect the smell decomposing human remains provided definite indications of a dead body having been in the home and pickup of a man charged with killing his wife, the dog's handler said during testimony Friday.

Madison Police Officer Jason Baumgart and his cadaver dog, Crosby, searched Jason Sypher's Hoffman Drive home on March 31, 2017. Baumgart has been training Crosby to recognize the smell of human remains since 2014 and received certification from the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association in 2017, Baumgart said during the fifth day of the Jason Sypher homicide trial.

Baumgart said Crosby is 97 percent accurate. The team is part of Canine Search Solutions, a nonprofit search group headed by a Madison police officer.

Maybe he sees part of himself in his son in law, and he’s probably in extreme denial at this point. Really heartbreaking that he’s not on the correct side of justice...

Ex-boyfriend, Ex-husband of Krista Sypher testify in 7th day of Jason Sypher trial

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -- Two men investigators said had relationships with a woman missing and presumed dead, took the stand Tuesday to testify in the seventh day of the Jason Sypher trial.
[.....]
Krista’s boyfriend testified he loved Krista, but their relationship began while she was still married to Jason. He said Krista called his home her ‘safe place’. He also said Krista told him if she went missing they should look for her in a swamp or a pipeline. Also saying Jason should be investigated.
[.....]
Krista's ex-husband was also called to the stand. He said Krista was cheating on him with Jason Sypher while they were married. They divorced in 2003.

Here's a better article with at least their names! And a bit more on "what" was said on the stand.

Trial testimony: Krista Sypher said if she went missing, husband would be prime suspect

STEVENS POINT - A Plover woman who hasn't been seen since March 2017 once told her former boyfriend that he should investigate her husband if she ever went missing, the man testified Tuesday in her spouse's homicide trial.

Corey Kitowski took the stand in the seventh day of Jason Sypher's two-week trial. Sypher, 44, is charged with killing his wife, Krista, who was 44 when she was last seen on March 13, 2017. Sypher reported Krista missing on March 20, 2017. She has never been found.
[.....]
One of the friends who was there that night, Jesse Luth, also took the stand on Tuesday. Luth said things became uncomfortable in the tavern and they decided to leave, but Jason Sypher was outside in Krista's car and refused to let her drive.
[.....]
Wisconsin Assisted Attorney General Annie Jay and Portage County District Attorney Louis Molepske finished presenting their case on Tuesday afternoon. Defense Attorney Gary Kryshak started putting on his witnesses next, including Jason Sypher's brother.

hmm.... the article above doesn't mention anything about Krista's ex husband being on the stand.... ??

Jury finds missing Plover woman's husband guilty of her homicide

STEVENS POINT - It took a jury less than two hours to find Jason Sypher guilty of killing his wife, Krista, who went missing more than two years ago and has never been found.

Jason Sypher, 44, of Plover, decided not to take the stand Wednesday morning in his own defense. Instead, Wisconsin Assistant Attorney Annie Jay and defense attorney Gary Kryshak gave closing arguments.

The jury began deliberating just before noon Wednesday and announced they had a verdict shortly after 1:30 p.m. The courtroom, which had few observers during the eight-day trial, was full when Portage County Circuit Judge Thomas Eagon announced the jury's verdict. The jury found Jason Sypher guilty of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his wife, Krista, 44. They also found him guilty of hiding Krista's corpse.
[.....]
Jason Sypher faces a maximum of life in prison. Eagon will decide whether he will be eligible for parole and, if so, at what point in his sentence. Eagon did not schedule a sentencing date on Wednesday. The attorneys plan to meet with the judge Monday to determine if a presentence investigation is needed.
