New details in disappearance and death of 3-year-old

Investigators say the girl's father was the last one to see her. He said she was playing outside, and he yelled out a window for her to get away from the water. Sometime after that, he couldn't find her and asked a nearby fisherman if he had seen the girl.

When the angler suggested that police should be called, the father allegedly said, "We don't need any cops," and walked away. The fisherman then notified authorities, prompting the search.

Hundreds of volunteers joined in that search. On Thursday, WQOW News 18 learned the girl's parents did not take part. Instead, they were at the nearby casino...

There was also a delay on Wednesday in announcing the girl's death because the sheriff's department couldn't locate Reena's mother to notify her. Sheriff Roland says she was in Siren shopping for shoes and a cell phone.

Unbelievable.

I wanted to add I think someone speculated mom was out buying cigs when the sheriff said "shopping" cause she was seen with two packs in her hand. I thought it very odd sheriff would use the word "shopping" if she just went to the store and picked up some cigs. (not that I would think it's ok to leave a friggin' search party for my 3 year old to go buy smokes). I don't classify buying cigs as "shopping"... I mean I thought he was meaning this chick was SHOPPING. ????? WTH???

Right. 3 year olds are known for their ability to listen and comply.

You go out to the child, tell them to stay away from the water, and then the adult stays with the child to ensure their safety.

This kid never had a chance. If she didn't drown this week, it would have been next week.

If this is all true - it makes me sick!!

Yep, knew it. I'm just sick

I think the dog was in the water by her when the S&R began entering the water to search for her. IIRC, her body was found near the boat launch on their property.

If this is so, seem the dog was trying to be near her and cared more about her than her own parents. :(

Okay, I think the parents are definitely negligent according to everything I have read - however the BBM quote above is incomplete. The full sentence in the story linked reads:

"Instead, they were at the nearby casino, which had offered them a free room after the sheriff's department took over their home during the investigation."

Gives the reader a slightly different impression when the full context is included.

Just to clarify, the rest of the bolded sentence is "...which had offered them a free room after the sheriff's department took over their home during the investigation."

However, I would have searched for my child until I was ready to drop and would have stayed in my car nearby.

Running to the store for cigarettes at a time like this I can understand (being a smoker), but shopping for shoes and a phone? I'm wondering if these people are just plain selfish or on something. My guess is the latter since they didn't "need any cops" around.

And the mother's reaction (yeah, yeah...we all grieve differently) right after she learned Reena had been located was super odd to me. Her eyes looked pretty messed up but not a tear in sight.

:furious: It sounds like Reena never had a chance.

FYI Siren is about 20 miles from Danbury.

Also the casino in Danbury has a hotel attached and a stand alone hotel on the grounds. The casino is St. Croix Casino Danbury.

I don't care about a different impression, this is what caught my eye besides the fact that Reena was allowed to wander around without supervision....

Ah yes, but it gives the impression that the parents took off to gamble while the rest of the town looked for their daughter.

...but at this point, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that was exactly what they were doing.

They don't have to worry about watching her anymore. :furious:

I will be surprised if these two are not responsible for her death. I know the preliminary Autopsy says accidental drowning, but thier actions are so ...un-parent like! I just can't wrap my mind around someone NOT wanting to call 911, and then to not search for her, and then to go SHOPPING for shoes and a cell? So many other things they have done that is way beyond "different". Its Borders on not giving a S---! At the very least I fully expect them to be charged with a negligent death or child neglect that resulting in death..something.

How many years can someone get for negligent death or child neglect that resulting in death?? Does anyone knows??

OMG.....:thud:

It was obvious there were 'problems' when we learned that she had already 'gone missing' twice that very day. What parent, who had just been presented with their 3 yr old who had wandered off a mile away, all alone, just leaves that same child outside all alone AGAIN, so they can get a drink inside? That makes no sense.

As I said, I think we have all made mistakes, and allowed a child to get into a dangerous situation. But most parents then respond to that mistake by CHANGING the situation. If your child escapes through the front door then you change the locks to a higher position. You don't ignore it and allow your child to escape three times a day. :furious:

Sorry...I had to clip the quote to stay within WS's 25% rule.

ACK, I just re-read the TOS for this forum and I find that the rule is 10%. My apologies to the Mods.
