I think that the interview with Nadya's mother, Angela, is very telling. I watched that interview and was appalled when I heard Angela Suleman say "I did hear that she received money from her insurance. She never told me. But I've never seen any money, not for house payments or for feeding the kids."

This is just so disturbing. Nadya left the childcare of her six children to her mother and did not even give her money to help. I can't even imagine how a woman who has been unwilling to support the six children she already had could even think about having more children...and to spend her money on cosmetic surgery!

IMO, Nadya Suleman is not capable of raising these children and her grandparents shouldn't be expected to either. I do feel for the grandmother who I can only imagine is at her wit's end and I'm sure she loves her grandchildren. CPS needs to step in and see that these newborns are adopted out to good homes. This is a truly horrific situation.

My bold. Sadly, I agree. However, what is even sadder, is momma will lose it and the oldest 6 will suffer more. The whole thing is a mess.

I'm a never married mother. When I filed for child support the paperwork the state required me to fill out specifically stated do indicate ALL men I had 'relations' with within 3 months prior to and after the estimated date of conception. Having been in a LTR I was pretty humiliated with the paperworks questions, however, in some cases I am sure woman don't know... but they DO know, or hope they know, the names of who they had relations with.

I know there have been other cases of friends being SD's - there was the two lesbians who split up and the donor was required to pay CS when the child was already a teen.

What remains here, is why a state would 'protect' a fathers responsibility to pay when his sperm has fathered 14 children. I don't know that the laws include manner of conception. If that were the case any non married father could claim an agreement as a donor with no financial responsibility. I'm sure he did not agree to fathering 14 children... however where is the line drawn when a single woman has 14 children and clearly can not financially support them herself? And what did the donor do to ensure his sperm did not father 14 kids? Where was HIS say in all of this? If verbally, he's not going to have much of a leg to stand on ( no pun intended ;) )

I guess we will see in time... what the state of CA does with this one.

Quoting myself. Actually I think the DOCTOR who did the IVF's should be responsible for CS for all 14 until the kids are 19 or 23 if they finish college.

The problems are numerous. Personality disordered mother, an enabling grandmother and grandfather. But the bottom line is 14 children born into dysfunction. Not easily adjusted into mainstream but that is what needs to happen. The State of California is going to be left to address this...no question.

I hope compassion for the children isn't left at the doorstep. But, I cannot see enabling Nadya anymore since she has sucked the system. She is deplorable in every way. Sorry, but can't mince words with all we have learned.

The children didn't deserve all this and I hope and pray that deserving families will be able to adopt.

Her church is buying her a home in Whittier. They are trying to settle on a property now.

I finally watched Nadya in what I believe was her first interview-- and I agree that there is something "not right" with her (a personality disorder or something). She seems to be in her own little world-- just does not seem to understand the impact of her actions. I don't think the children can be left in her care, and, unfortunately, if she was given a gaggle of nannies to help her, she would be out on press junkets while the nannies cared for the babies. Child and Family Services should stay with her for a few weeks and observe her trying to care for the babies. IMO, it will become evident fairly quickly that it is in the best interest of the children that they be adopted out to loving families.

One more comment-- I am not critical of her being a single mother or of her wanting children, but I do believe that if one wants to have a large family, one needs to be able to support them. Nadya is in "La-la-land." Either she is just scamming the welfare system or she really believes she can be a good mother to all these children. But she doesn't really have a clue how to be a good mother, or she would have stopped at six.

God bless her church for helping those poor little babies. I hope they are watchful of not being taken advantage of -- and not being sucked dry -- by this unbalanced woman.

Nadya says that some of the eight babies are twins and that was not expected. In looking at the pics, the two little girls and at least two of the boys definitely do look like identical twins. Does anyone know if embryos divide into twins before being implanted or does this happen later? I wonder if the doctor had any way of knowing beforehand that there were a couple of sets of twin in the embryos.

Our news is reporting that they are all in hiding as they are getting death threats. The original 6 are stashed away. This is getting ugly. I hope everyone stays safe.

You know, they (proverbial "they") have tossed around the idea that there needs to be tigher regulations on infertility treatments. I totally disagree with letting this have a domino affect where it makes things harder on couples truly struggling with infertility. Although, individual clinics may need to be more closely monitored, such as this whack job Beverly Hills doctor.

What I DO think needs to be regulated (assuming there is no such stipulation already), is to have a sperm donor - particularly one that is apparently a "personal friend" known to the woman - write up some type of agreement or statement making it clear how many cycles or whatever they are allowing their sperm donations to be used. I don't know whether it would have worked in this case, but it seems like maybe things would not have gone this far if Nadya's sperm donor/buddy had been able to officially say "stop"?! Does anyone know if there's any such documents available for a sperm donor to sign to prevent things from getting to this point?

Well, oddly enough, it seems they already anticipated that. Since grandpa was already letting everyone know, before Nadya even showed her face, that they had another house far, far away in never, never land where no one would ever find them. :silenced:

Txsvicki, the embryos can divide into identical twins up to 2 weeks after fertilization, iirc. If they were already divided before implantation, the doctor would have known he was implanting eight embryos. I wonder how soon an embryo is frozen after being fertilized.

I agree with you that there do appear to be two sets of twins. I think Maliah and Noriah are twins (girls) and Jerimiah and McCai are twins (boys). Are those the same two sets you see?

Are they really hiding from death threats, or are they hiding from the likes of CPS and the authority... or is it a combination of both.

Good question. I suspect it's a combination of both.

From your link about freezing embryos:

...ranging from one day after fertilization up to five or six days after.

That pretty much explains how the embryos could split after being inserted into the uterus...the embryo still has many days to split since they can split up to 14 days after fertilization.

I wouldnt mind donating a little if it was going into a trust for the care of all 14 children and it was distributed by an outside mediator that is not associated by the family at all. This person would make sure all monies would go to the care of the children even if they themselves had to go buy the diapers!
I think thats the only way these children would benefit for donations.

<snip>
A big share of the financial burden of raising Nadya Suleman's 14 children could fall on the shoulders of California's taxpayers, compounding the public furor in a state already billions of dollars in the red.

Even before the 33-year-old single, unemployed mother gave birth to octuplets last month, she had been caring for her six other children with the help of $490 a month in food stamps, plus Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters. The public aid will almost certainly be increased with the new additions to her family.

Also, the hospital where the octuplets are expected to spend seven to 12 weeks has requested reimbursement from Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, for care of the premature babies, according to the Los Angeles Times. The cost has not been disclosed.

<snip>
In California, a low-income family can receive Social Security payments of up to $793 a month for each disabled child. Three children would amount to $2,379.

So now she is asking for donations via her website.

As one of my friends said, begging is not an appropriate way of providing for your family.
