To answer some above questions...

"A few years ago, Mrs. Małgorzata lived in Leszno. As Onet.pl journalists have established,
her life was already quite turbulent.

Sudden disappearances from home and disturbing behavior led to the restriction of her parental rights and the placement of a curator.

Her children, aged 7 and 9, were placed in foster care.

In 2019, she disappeared again.
Her family stopped looking for her,
but her case was handled by a probation officer who tried to determine her whereabouts.

It was probably then that the woman began dating a new partner.

Everything indicates that it was Mateusz J.
And that was when her ordeal must have begun.

After some time (in 2020),
she ran away from him and ended up in an Intervention Center in Leszno because she was experiencing violence from the man.

Social workers suggested that she separate herself from him,
but at some point the woman ran away from them too,
leaving the safe place without a word.

Then Małgorzata had to find herself in Gaiki and be imprisoned there.
She was regularly abused. Mateusz J. was supposed to beat her, rape her, torment her.

Here, more surprising facts come to light.
During several years of life in captivity, Małgorzata was admitted to hospital in Głogów several times.

The doctors were supposed to be aware that she was a victim of violence.

'The woman came to us with injuries indicating that she may have been subjected to violence.

Each time,
she was interviewed on the subject.
And each time,
she swore that no one was using violence against her.
She categorically refused to notify the services.

The hospital staff were helpless in this situation — they could not notify the services without the express will of the patient,
who is an adult and not incapacitated'
Hospital spokeswoman said.

The case came to light again when Małgorzata was admitted to hospital with a serious shoulder injury.

That's when she decided to speak out about violence and enslavement.

The victim's detailed accounts of the brutality of her torturer and the conditions in which she was held are downright terrifying.

It is surprising that neither the man's family nor any of the local residents had any idea about the presence of the woman being held and abused in the barn.

This state of affairs was supposed to last for several years."

Now,
the victim is in a psychiatric hospital.

The accused is in jail
waiting for a trial.

He is facing up to 25 years in prison if sentenced.

Thanks for that info - it does answer my questions but also shows this to be way more complicated than simply an online date gone horrifically wrong.

Often in situations where people just disappear ot their own accord and leave their kids drugs are involved. I wouldn't be surprised if they were involved here

Between 2002 and 2004, Ariel Castro abducted Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus from the roads of Cleveland, Ohio and later held them captive in his home at 2207 Seymour Avenue in the city's Tremont neighborhood. All three girls were imprisoned at Castro's home until 2013, when Berry successfully escaped with her six-year-old daughter, to whom she had given birth while captive, and contacted the police.[3][4][5][6] Police rescued Knight and DeJesus, and arrested Castro hours later.

Everybody is absolutely amazed that while the victim was in hospital she didn't seek help
But returned to this monster.
SBM for focus...

That's the part of the story I find it hard to relate to as well. Maybe she was just completely brainwashed at the time, but it seems like it would have been the perfect time to seek help. In most of these cases, I think the abductor delivers the child himself, or leaves the woman to deliver on her own so he isn't discovered.
