Who was the last person to see her in Denver?
To best of my knowledge it was her brother Tom. She was dating a man named Jim, but no one has a last name.
I’m also curious as to what that final letter to her family said. Were there any clues as to her intentions, state of mind? Was it actually her that wrote the letter? MOO

ETA: Her SSN wasn’t used for 8 years? That makes me think she was not the one that sent the supposed letter. What was her relationship with her brother like?

we do not believe it was her that wrote letter- however her brother received it and it came from WV. Since my uncle ( her brother ) is now 75 his recollection is not good. To best of my knowledge she gave no real info other than she was ok.

I am not sure if she wrote letter- it was sent from WV and she had told my uncle ( her brother ) that she was going to WV with her boyfriend Jim.
Bonnie and Tim were close growing up as their mom alcoholic and dad remarried 2 additional times after their mom- his 4th wife was very abusive to them. Prior to his marriage to 4th wife their mom sent them to children’s hime and other relatives because she didn’t want them. They grew up in a very dysfunctional environment.

Did she divorce Frank before she went to WV?

Myra- she divorced Frank prior to leaving Denver per his 2nd wife that I spoke to a few months ago. Her name is Maija and is a wonderful lady that wanted to help but said Frank never believed Tammy was his- ask for paternity test, Bonnie never showed for court date and he never saw or heard from Bonnie or Tammy again.

@Cynthia Dort
Welcome to WS Cynthia. We will do everything we can to assist in finding out what happened to your mom.
I have copied/pasted Tricias post with info regarding the verification process. I was unable to quote.

“If you would like to add yourself as an expert in a certain field or as an insider to a case, please send an email to wsverify@gmail.com

If you do not wish to be identified as an expert in a certain area, we ask that you refrain from answering questions that are specifically directed to those that have been verified as specialist in their area and that you do not claim to be a professional in any area.

If a member posts with "expertise" please check to make sure they are on this list. If not, please do not take their post as professional information, but rather just as another opinion; much as you would with any member of the general posting membership.

Locals who are describing the area or are members of the gyms and that sort of thing do not need to be verified.

We only verify people who know the players or have been named in the media, etc. This does not include people who may befriend a player on internet social media and then wish to post about it.

If a member wants to post as a professional (a lawyer, shrink, and so on) or as a local/knows the people involved then they must email us at the following email: wsverify@gmail.com

Please include:

The case
Your Websleuths name
Your phone number and a good time to call
Your real name
Location (City and State)

Cynthia, were you adopted and if so at what age? My apologies if these questions seem too personal...Did your uncle ever meet this new bf “Jim?”

Ask anything g, I want to share it all to get answers!!
Yes, my uncle met Bonnies bf and knew his name was Jim and believes he was associated with the Denver Crime Family- Smaldones- he doesn’t know or doesn’t remember anything else. I have a picture of Bonnie with Jim and Tammy at age 1 or 2 that was given to me this summer- I’m happy to share it if it could help!
Bonnie was married to David Gay and had an affair with a Benjamin Franklin Jr thus me... I was born in Holden, WV... I was taken from Bonnie and David at age 3 and adopted by David’s brother Bill Gay.

The name of Bonnies bf is Jim, I see I wrote Tim and didn’t catch it till right now- Bonnies last known bf was Jim.

Cynthia, you can still reply to the members questions on this forum while you are waiting for verification.

Is there away to change the information?? Bonnie was 30 in 1969 last time seen by any family and Tammy was 5.
Family has never seen or heard from Bonnie or Tammy since 1969 officially
My uncle received a letter from WV in 76/77 from someone saying they were Bonnie- letter had nothing of importance to his recollection.
The 1983 comes from WVSP finding a body they believe to be from the RedHead Murders and since Bonnie had red hair they are considering the possibility it could be her., but no one has honestly seen Bonnie since 1969.
I have submitted my DNA to the WVSP but no results yet.

I only learned about Bonnie and Tammy a little over a year ago and just met Bonnies brother Tom just this past August, I met Bonnies 1/2 sister too and a cousin... It is weird to me that no one reported her missing all these years so I’m doing my best 50 years later to make up for lost time- unfortunately I’m relying on my uncle ( who is 75 and my aunt that’s 80+ ) for information and add to that their family was extremely dysfunctional tbis is proving to be difficult!

Ty for all of your helpful info. I would personally advise at this point before you share the pic, to wait to get verified though. Would hate for you to continue to share, only to have your posts deleted bc of no MSM links to refer to. Once you are, you’ll be able to post without them. Please let us know when you are verified so we can move forward. Ty!

Thank you! I am just so anxious to find whatever happened to my mom and sister- it’s so difficult learning this 50 years after they went missing and not having much to go on. do you know how long it takes to get verified?

I alerted a moderator to help get it changed.

Not sure, think it varies. If you find it being more than a few weeks perhaps follow up on your email.

I still have not been verified. I have sent several emails and I am not sure what to do to get verified. I’d appreciate any help! Thank you

Is there anyone who knows how long it takes to become verified?
Cynthia is STILL waiting and desperately wants to contribute more info in hopes people will be able to help her

I am not sure about the 'Redhead' Doe. It seems to me that the only link is physical characteristics and a very uncertain possibility that Bonnie headed for WV. But it is certainly worth testing.

A key to this case may be the daughter rather than the mother. In 1969 it would have been relatively easy for an adult to move and change identity. Even getting a new Social Security Number was simple as, before 1971, applications were handled by field offices with few and random checks. After 1971 this was tightened considerably. So by the time the daughter was due to receive an SSN this could have been a problem. The daughters full name was Tamara Jean, either Vitek or Hutton, perhaps Cynthia could confirm under which surname she was registered. However I can find no trace of her in any datasets, genealogical or otherwise. Her full name comes from an Ancestry tree with no additional details, although it does have a blurred image of Bonnie, Tamara and (I assume) Frank, which I attach (it seems to be the photo from which Bonnie's picture in post #1 has been cropped).

The fact that there is no trace of Tamara makes me suspect that this case will not have a happy ending. However, if the worst happened I would assume it most probably occurred long before 1983, in which case Tamara would have been a child at the time. A search for child Does for a DNA comparison seems to me to be a less difficult task than searching for an adult match (at least in the absence of good pointers).

Having reread the posts I note Cynthia's comment that Bonnie's boyfriend was named Jim and involved with the Smaldone's (the Denver mafia family). This should make him identifiable. I attach a poster which, amazingly, shows a large number of the Denver mob in the 1960s, from the Smaldones down. It may help identify possible candidates. The most likely (to my eyes) looks like James Cavaleri. The James (or Jims) in the South Colorado faction are less likely as they were rivals to the Smaldones. Of course, it is possible that the Jim in this case may have been too low level to be on the poster.
