As far as the cell phone goes, if Jessica's exBF IS the killer, he could have kept the phone so he would have Jessica's number and maybe even her new boyfriend's number. Just a guess. It obviously wasn't taken so someone could use it or they would have records for those calls.
I'm still a little stumped why the dogs didn't find her. I realize they were tracking dogs, not cadaver dogs, and a live scent would be different than a dead scent. But I think that it's telling that even a tracking dog did NOT track Leah's scent to the basement/laundry room. I'm thinking that could very well mean she was killed in the apartment (strangled?) and then carried to the crawl space, rather than surprized in the basement by her killer.
I really don't feel that Jessica had anything to do with this, but that's just my gut feeling.
How very tragic for this family, they will remember this every Christmas for the rest of their lives. It's so sad.
