WV - NEAL FALLS, suspected SK - LE seeking link to murders in IL, NV and OR

Yes, reports say it was the same vehicle. I can also confirm that officers are trained to look in vehicles for suspicious items.

However, having worked landscaping for several years in my youth, there is also nothing inherently suspicious about those items.

The officer likely picked up on NMF's slight nervousness and asked again where he was going. If the answer changed, then more questioning might be in order. The answer, WV, was the same, so no reason to extend the stop.

He was also compliant and not appearing under the influence of anything.

My issue is he did not have cash or credit cards on him. How did he pay for gas, food etc.? Did he the rob the women after he killed them? (Presuming he is a serial killer, of course).

The fact that Neal Falls is dead and you can't libel the dead may have the police a little more speculative than usual.

But working in journalism, in general — especially after the Altanta Olympic bombing — law enforcement is incredibly tight-lipped about things unless they have very solid evidence. Look at the Darren Vann case. They wouldn't speculate he was a serial killer for days even after he led them to seven bodies. Police in other states looking into possible victims wouldn't speak about the case at all.

With Neal Falls, police have confirmed with the media that they suspect he's a serial killer. They've confirmed that they're looking into cases in 20 states. Law enforcement in Nevada and New York have confirmed they are looking at Falls for specific murder clusters.

My bet is that he had trophies of some sort in the van, or that there is some other evidence — DNA that flagged a family member or something — that connects him to other murders. I really doubt they would have been this straightforward about things if there wasn't.

Maybe one piece of evidence not released was that dog hair was found on some of the victims?

I searched for a photo of the SUV he was driving and noticed that the windows didn't appear to be tinted at all. I would think that typically LE at least glance through the windows as they walk up to the driver's window. Maybe it isn't common practice but I wonder if that stash in the hatch was concealed or visible. Was he driving the SUV in the body camera video?

Is this the dog we are trying to find?

I don't think so. I believe that photo was taken at the crime scene.

Just a few things I wanted to mention off the top of my head:

1. If he had been working, he obviously had access to money. How did he cash his checks? Does he have a checking or savings account somewhere?
2. He obviously had personal belongings (everyone, including homeless people and drifters have personal belongings)...where are they?
3. If he was sleeping in his car, was he staying at a campsite?
4. He HAD to have access to a computer and a phone. Where are they?
5. The escort who killed him must have his phone number. It's standard practice to screen clients by immediately calling the number back. It's not merely a safety practice, it also helps ensure the client isn't a time waster. So LE surely has a phone number for NF. Can't imagine this was a pay phone, since that would have been a red flag to the escort. If the number went to a landline, then it must have been a phone in a hotel room, yes?

Edit to post number 264. Henderson, NV and Albequerque are 8.5 HOURS apart, not "mikes" apart.

Jumping back to the west Mesa murders and NF's whereabouts, someone responded that from 2008 to 2013 he spent a chunk of that time working back in Oregon. I'm also, obviously curious about AFTER 2013 as well when the west Mesa disappearances started back up again. It was quiet in west Mesa between 2008 and 2013.

I do not believe that is correct. I have not heard verification of where that pic is from, with his dog. If LE took it, they would not be looking for the dog. If that was not his dog, I wonder why LE wouldn't shoo it away.

This IMO, is not normal. How many people zigzag across America with this in their hatch?

Anyone who was living full time in the woods.

My husband and I are avid back country hikers and campers. If you caught us on a camping trip, you'd very likely find shovels, axes, knives, machetes, bleach, etc. in the back of our truck. Obviously, Falls attempted to attack an escort, no denying that. I just don't see these items as an obvious indicator that he dismembered victims. Is it possible? Absolutely. Is it a certainty? Not in my mind.

Excellent point. I'm ashamed that didn't occur to me before I asked that question.

One last thing before I head out of here. About a year ago, I stumbled upon this case while researching something else. The other day, I was looking into the idea that NF might be living at campsites, and immediately recalled the details of this murder. Couldn't remember where the couple were murdered, so it took me a while to track down this article. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it was in Oregon!

Wouldn't there be water, a cooler, backpack? Anything that one would need if living in the woods or in a car.

Hard to say, really. If he were camping near a water source, he wouldn't need to bring water. Backpacks are usually something hikers require, but if he wasn't a hiker...then. maybe not. But surely he had some person belongings...at the very least clothes. So if he was camping in the woods, I'd assume he had a campsite somewhere, and left things there. Also possible he alternates between campsites and cheap hotels, so maybe he didn't see the need to haul all those tools into a hotel room, but instead opted just to lock them in the car. Or maybe he did use these tools to dismember his victims. The possiblilities are endless, really.

True, great points. I suppose he could have his belongings at a campsite including any cash or cards he had. I would like to see a timeline of his movements to see if they jive with the seasons.

Another thought about the Benbrook stop: how recent was the Oregon license? The officer didn't say it was expired, but NMF said it wasn't his address anymore.

Do we know what address that was? His mom's?

Along similar lines, I wonder how far in advance the lucky Miss Heather made the arrangements.

Right...but all of those things amount to speculation. Many men hire escorts. Many of those men keep lists of escorts (especially hobbyists). Many men live in Vegas. Many men travel across country. Many people have "questionable" facebook pages, and so on and so forth. I assume LE has something solid they are going off of here...I just wonder what that is.

Of course this is speculation. The fact that he was attempting to torture and murder an escort across the country after an arranged meeting to which he brought no cash, but what appears to be a "kill kit" to the scene is enough to make the "leap" in my mind. I'm not at all surprised he's being investigated for other crimes. As for LE I'm sure there's things they are keeping to themselves about the investigation for the moment.

This crime is moreinline with israel Keyes' MO, and in fact, he is considered a suspect in that.

As to the pic of the car with the dog, I believe this pic was taken outside the West Virginia victims's home. There is a news video where you can see that building. Don't think that dog is his or they wouldn't be looking for it. Someone in this thread said his dog is a pittbull but I dont recall how they know that. Former landlord or coworkers or something like that.

I also thought I saw somewhere that he had a sleeping bag in the car. I'm guessing that was covering the tools when he was stopped in texas. I think it was a recent article where I saw that, maybe the one asking for people to look for the dog.

I agree, which is why I think there is more evidence police are not yet sharing publicly. Even with those implements in his trunk, the speed with which law enforcement began looking at dismembered sex worker cases was pretty dang fast, as was their announcement that he had been a probable serial killer.

My own guess is that something in his vehicle connected him to the Henderson or Niagara cases - the only two dismemberment cases law enforcement has linked him to yet - and they are moving ahead from there. It could have been something he had written, trace evidence, DNA, trophies, something he told his surviving victim, whatever.
