Gabby’s mom doesn’t believe the hitchhiker was Brian. I can’t find the link but she said the timeline was too tight for him to have been in Miranda’s jeep at that time and then back in Florida on Sept 1.
Unless she has information we don’t have about the timeline I think it’s been established here that it is entirely possible. We don’t know what she knows though. I though the tik tok was credible and certainly seems to fit the geographic locations well.

obviously just my opinion but if my adult son returns from a trip without companion and refuses to talk I don’t call an attorney. I call the companions family and then if warranted I call police. If I ever have to google “is it a criminal offense NOT to report a body in…” for myself or my kids then I’m just doing life wrong.
If my adult child came home without their SO, and SO’s family contacted me about her whereabouts, I would most certainly force my child to call them. Yes, he is an adult and all that, but he lives in their home. Call them back or GTFO.

Is BL officially a wanted suspect or is he still considered a missing person? If the latter, it is doubtful that LE can justify continuing to expend considerable resources pulling out all stops searching for him at this time. If or when it becomes an official manhunt, however, I imagine LE resources from across the state (and nation) will bring hell upon anyone trying to hide from this.

In fact, they may have "stopped" looking for him just long enough to now re-characterize the investigation and ramp up their efforts.

JMO.

Those guys at NPPD are completely overwhelmed by this case. Not a professional response, IMO.
Josh is in over his head. Remember Friday night, when we found out BL was "missing," Josh called in to talk to JB on WFLA and was being wildly defensive about all the criticism the NPPD was getting. It was really shockingly inappropriate, IMO. (It was live streamed and I don't know if WFLA keeps those recordings?)

One thing I forgot to mention:

Mabry Carlton Reserve also borders Lincer Preserve to the south, and further down, Oak Cathedral Preserve, close to North Port. This just gives him extra space to hide out in in.

Maps

Lest he do something really stupid like jump the fence surrouding park boundaries, cross I-75 on foot across to the other side where Deer Prairie Creek Preserve is...I just do not see the resources being spent by LE to find BL.

I looked at the video again last night in 4K on a monitor. Frame by frame. If you blink you miss the door shutting but it truly appears it does. The flip flops look more like BL’s as his were darker along the outer sole. The front seat?? Our minds are wild how we fill in information. I zoomed in and took pics of the screen to zoom in more and what I thought was a figure is actually a reflection of the road. You can see the Bethune family RV/van in the reflection on the passenger window.

Thinking of the Petito family with a heavy heart.
I hope BL comes forward soon. It’s time to face the music.

None of us know what Brian told his family. He could have told them that she decided to break up with him and ran off with another guy she met, so they felt compelled to protect/help him. They most likely thought this was all one big misunderstanding if Brian indeed lied to them. We really don't know.

no. We do not know and will never know for certain. Clearly, the Laundries felt something amiss enough to consult an attorney. They then did what attorney told them to do and not to do.
I think they and BL have successfully evaded the legal consequences. Mental, emotional and public opinion consequences, very much not. It’s forums like this, and social media, and the public in general that will make them pay the consequences, not the law IMO. That’s what’s making their lives miserable now. They can fend off LE and even force them to protect them.

he was wearing sandals as seen in the video when the cops detained him.

He was, but this was days later, and there have been images and video of him where he's barefoot.

Respectfully, I just don't think we can rule out two people being inside, just because there's only one pair of flip-flops outside.

(They could be out of view round the other side of the van, he could've kept them on, he might not have been wearing any in the first place etc)

MOO

True, but direct evidence combined with circumstantial evidence is better. For example, he used a gun he was in possession of after, or, he bit her arm and dental records prove it was him. Things like that.

A minor point but forensic evidence is circumstantial not direct.

Direct evidence directly proves the fact to be established - usually witness evidence.

e.g. Testimony from an FBI agent that she recovered the gun hidden under the floorboards of his house is direct evidence of where the gun was found.

Circumstantial evidence invites the jury to make inferences. e.g ballistics match the gun to the murder. therefore it is the murder weapon. the gun was found in his house, therefore he must have hidden it there after the murder.

In the current case we already have some potentially powerful direct evidence. e.g. the sighting of the van so close to where the body was found at the key time. the body cam video. the hitchhiking testimony, him being observed to turn up with the van and his actions etc

Except then you probably say that when a panicked mom calls you. I keep seeing this idea being floated but it doesn’t sit right with me. I’d be willing to bet that they knew from pretty early on. MOO

Worth a look. Edit: it is a cleaned up version.
Incredible video showing Gabby’s van. The detail is amazing on this clip! I’m still feeling beyond grateful that this YouTube family from Florida, on vacation in the Tetons, were able to spot the van on their video, and notify the authorities, which led to finding Gabby. Many thanks to the person who made this clip showing a closeup of the van.

Knowing where she was found doesn't make it likely that she sent the message to her mother on the 30th. So whoever tried to impersonate her, must be guilty of a cover up. I'm sure the police has her phone pings.
