When I first saw it, I thought myself it looked out of proportion and not what a graphic artist would do. Plus they said they found it later. It's really not a biggie, but I was glad to see it.

Yes. Just like the rainbow. Its a meteorological phenomenon and not really a sign that the heavens are shining down on her, but it does make you feel good.

The weather is not much better on the Appalachian Trail right now. Rainy, humid, mosquitoes, spiders, snakes, etc - plus bears! However, it's supposed to be much cooler over the next week as fall begins. (I live in East Tennessee). If he is there he could hike out to some college town in the Georgia or North Carolina mountains and nobody would look twice at him.

I talked about this a little yesterday here - the AT is a highly popular trail. If someone was fleeing and trying to evade the feds...the AT is not the place to go.

Edit: This is just an opinion from someone that lives in EKY.

“The Schmidts and the Petitos are very much a part of this community,” McNamara says. “It’s very difficult for all of us here to know the pain that they’re in.”
McNamara is also the founder of the Johnny Mac Foundation, which lined the streets throughout the community with teal ribbons before the official announcement was made.
The color was chosen by Petito's mom, Nicole Schmidt, because it resembles her daughter’s eyes, according to McNamara.
Meanwhile, as you enter Blue Point where Montauk Highway meets Nicolls Road, there is a billboard that reads “Gabby Petito, forever in our hearts.” News 12 has learned a number of businesses worked together to get the billboard up to honor Petito. Flags were also lowered to half-staff around town.
There will be a Shine of Light for Gabby fundraiser and vigil at 7 p.m. Friday.. There is no specific location for the vigil due to COVID-19, but families will place luminaires in their driveways in remembrance.

The conversation between BL and the police officer while BL was being driven to the motel keeps coming to my mind. They were talking about Sequoia National Park in CA and all the surrounding areas. I don't see how BL could possibly be there without being detected, but it's something that I took note of and wanted to share.
Sequoia National Park is on fire sadly. Don't imagine he'd be visiting there with that sort of activity in the area.

I thought BL told his parents he was going on a hike.. "believed' he was at the park is interesting language in that if he is not, they really don't know where he is. Maybe it's too early for dissection and overthinking. I just thought they 'knew' he went hiking.

What I find strange about this hike is that the news report I read of it said that "late Tuesday," Brian decided to take this hike. It was raining that day, and I think that evening. Who decides to start a hike late in the day? Is that common? If the detail is correct, that is. I've read many different statements about him and the hiking trip, but I wouldn't think anyone would start a hiking trip on a rainy day.

I also didn't think anyone would hike or backpack it with flip-flops, either, but....

I thought both of these sightings were confirmed to NOT be him. I can't find the stories, so much stuff, but do I have that wrong?

Im under the same impression as you.

Cops find 'nothing of note' after possible Laundrie sighting

“The OCSO did its due diligence in response to this report and is wrapping up an extensive search that took place in this area to also include nearby farmlands and a search by drone,” the agency said. “No one — and nothing — of note was located.”

The agency said it doesn’t believe Laundrie has a relationship to anyone in the northwest Florida town, which is about 500 miles away from his home in North Port.

Florida sheriffs did 'extensive search' after trail cam caught potential Brian Laundrie sighting, but didn't find evidence it was him

A Florida sheriff's office said Tuesday that it conducted an "extensive search" after a person's trail camera captured a potential sighting of Gabby Petito's fiancé Brian Laundrie - but investigators did not find any evidence that it was the missing man.

Police search for Gabby Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie continues - follow live

Police investigated trail cam footage that potentially captured an image of Brian Laundrie hiking, but determined there was no connection.

One of Brian Laundrie’s ‘inner circle’ could be helping him, says former FBI agent

"A former FBI agent has said it’s possible that Brian Laundrie – the missing fiancé of van-life blogger Gabby Petito, whose death has been ruled a homicide – is receiving help to stay on the run."
If he's still alive somewhere, he's got help. I'm still smacking my head over the statement that he could be surviving and successfully evading LE in the Florida swamp wilderness "for months." No, he can't, not without help, in my opinion.

You know the parents could save a (little) face here by getting on TV and pleading for BL to turn himself in. I know if it was my son, I would be flipped out with everyone searching for him. I would be out there trying to find him first out of fear for his safety.

IDK. Seeing all the attention this case is getting and their son (who they raised & love) being portrayed as an abusive narcissistic murderer, the parents might feel he is better off taking his chances on the run. The parents are also under suspicion so there could be a kind of "circling of the wagons" mentality. IMO.

The police and FBI are searching for BL using the latest technology. If they were to shut the reserve and use heat sensor drones, which are fairly vanilla tech, they would find him quite quickly.

Ergo, he is either deceased in the reserve and is leaving no heat marker, or he is not in the reserve at all. There is no way he is in the reserve alive as they would have found him by now.
I believe infrared can still be used during the decomp stage as well, I watched something on this recently. They stated they could detect it even underground. It was a guy on DutyRon named Gene Robinson.

Im under the same impression as you.

But this does not say that it is definitely not BL. That’s the key difference. Just says no evidence that it’s him. In fact, it clearly says no evidence at all.

Do you think they’re saying that to throw him off, or could they possibly believe that?

The Appalachian trail is one of the most hiked trails in the country. There are tons of thru-hikers and day hikers on it constantly. It's perfect weather for it in most places now too. I can't imagine he wouldn't immediately be spotted and maybe even detained if he was hiking a popular trail.

This exactly. And if he's hiked it before, even he knows this wouldn't be the best trail to hike on.

JMO, if he's still alive, he's not far from home.
