Correct. We on Long Island know what he looks like and are always keeping an eye out just in case

This is not the area for someone on the run to hide, I don't know why folks think that would even be an option for this guy. Not only would civilians be on high alert, but there's a lot of security cameras, facial recognition, etc.

Do you think FBI/LE believe he’s deceased in the nature reserve, and that’s the reason they keep on with the searches?

Either they think he is there, or they may think he has disposed of some kind of evidence there. Maybe something belonging to Gabby or a weapon?

I haven't seen this noted anywhere here already, but from the DailyMail:

Police DIVERS join the manhunt for Brian Laundrie in its fourth day | Daily Mail Online

First time I've heard the words "prime suspect" used in media in connection to BL.

"Laundrie's whereabouts are still unknown, with the manhunt entering its fourth day in Florida and law enforcement sources saying the 23-year-old boyfriend of Petito is the 'prime suspect' in her homicide. "

Not sure if that's enough to count it since it's not a named source, but still thought it may be important to note the change.

Moo he is dead. Ugh

I guess the dive team werent able to get to whatever they are detecting.

Gabby Petito: Dive teams arrive at Carlton Reserve in search for Brian Laundrie: LIVE UPDATES

North Port police address presence of dive teams at Carlton Reserve
North Port Police Public Information Officer Josh Taylor, in a statement to Fox News, says "we have received a number of questions about underwater dive vehicles entering the Carlton."

"Area resources are looking at large bodies of water, including dive teams, boats, and sonar equipment," he said. "At this time, this does NOT mean anything has been found. It’s a part of the overall search process."

About the Appalachian trail, is it only for hiking or could one camp there?
Both. I camped on it for 6 months. There are even shelters with nearby water and nice airy privies (for the most part) every 7 miles. As far as backpacking, it's cushy! There are a gazillion road crossings. Lots of helpful people, easy to hitch to town, a large "community" most of the way to slack you, run errands, etc., hostels, Walmarts.... I re-stocked every 4 days. Some people get picked up at the end of the day and re-delivered the next morning. I knew some who were doing motels every other night... It's super accessible. However.... the "community" is not at all oblivious, and hikers talk to one another ALL the time. They keep an eye out for folks who are out of place, wanted, etc.... The FBI knows to look there, 'cos this wouldn't be the first time.
Note: the AT starts in Northern Georgia at Springer (600 miles from North Port) and ends in ME. So, in BL's case, he'd have to hitch or fly or something to get there. He could maybe walk, but it would take over a month....

Good question! hmmm...prepaid phone cards?
He would need the ability to charge it.
They had a Jackery portable power source from their youtube video. It's small, but still big to carry in a backpack unless electricity was a priority. It's definitely packable though.

ETA: I dont personally think thats likely but it seems possible.

No, they showed the van twice? For the second pass, the van appears to be on the other side.
I'm not sure what you mean by "they showed it twice." I'm only aware of them showing footage of the van while they were on their way INTO the campground. They said they were going to the back of the grounds because the views were supposed to be better there.

I just looked at the Red, White and Bethune video again. Something always seemed strange and I finally know what. Why is the van visible on the return drive outside of the driver's window, shouldn't it appear on the passenger side instead? Or did it get moved?
They never shared the return view where the van would appear on the passenger side. They only showed an alternate view of the same clip where the camera is facing the driver/Mr. Bethune and you can see the Transit as they pass. This BOTHERS ME.

Of all the people to do that, I doubt it would be the investigative team. For starters it's unprofessional as you stated. Also, they have more important things to tend to. My guess is it was either Gabby's father, or another camper that caught wind of what was going on in that area, but not the investigating team. I'd be SUPER surprised to find out otherwise. Like... S U P E R surprised.

(Reposting this first part from yesterday)

MANNER OF DEATH is classified by coroners in one of six ways. I found HERE some definitions that helped clarify the differences -
  • Natural= Death due solely to natural disease.
  • Accident= An unexpected or unforeseen death due to injury.
  • Suicide= Death resulting from intentional self-inflicted act.
  • Homicide= Death as a result of a volitional act committed by another person (e.g. injury, poisoning).
  • Undetermined= Manner of death used when the information pointing to one manner of death is no more compelling than another.
  • Pending investigation

Putting together pieces from a couple different sources, (and please feel free to correct me if I've missed anything important!) the different TYPES OF HOMICIDE include:
  • murder
    • first degree / aggravated - homicide committed with premeditation and deliberation. Even though an intention to kill is not necessary, first-degree murder implies that the defendant had “an element of coolness, of calm reflection.”
    • second degree - an intentional killing that is not premeditated or planned, but is committed by a person having a depraved heart or mind, such as killing in the heat of the moment or a killing that results from an intent to cause serious bodily harm. In both situations, the killer is not intending to kill his victim, but he knows that death is a likely outcome of his actions.
  • manslaughter - instances where the accused did not plan the crime nor did he or she intend for the victim to die because of his or her actions. Manslaughter charges usually arise out of accidental circumstances where a person died because of criminally negligent or reckless conduct. It can also refer to an unintentional killing through the commission of a crime other than a felony

  • justifiable homicide - killing in self-defense during an unprovoked, unlawful attack
So yes, while this has legally been declared a homicide, it has not yet been declared murder.

This discussion is really clogging up the pipes. Can mods put this to rest, please?

I believe it was Daily Mail (if anyone has the link - one of the mods posted it last night ) that posted a video of a reporter walking from where the van was to the cross. It gives you a really good idea of the little foot bridge BL (and I believe GP was alive when they walked out there but that's just MOO ) had to cross and how far it is (and also where the trees are, tent would have been, etc).
Was it this video? Stones arranged in cross pattern found at campsite where authorities may have found Gabby Petito | Daily Mail Online

Murder has a legal definition too, and there has to be intent.

Homicide does not mean that one person intended to kill another, merely that the manner of death was one person killed another.

Wouldn't you say that if a couple has experienced DV, and they continue to experience it, that provides intent? Just kind of riffing off what you said.

We aren't to speak of mental health issues, but that's the only way that there was no "intent" in this case. IMO. BL was seen slapping Gabby and chasing her down the street in Moab. He also seems in possession of rational faculties when LE stops him (except for his driving, which is partly blamed on Gabby, who is hitting and slapping him in the van - apparently).

If someone means to shove someone and they do shove them, then they have performed an intentional act. If the person dies from the fall, whether the death was intended or not, it's murder in many states - including Wyoming, I believe. In the death of Gabby Petito, if it occurred in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, BL would be facing murder charges in federal court. I just can't see how this wouldn't be treated as a murder. In some jurisdictions, the term "murder" isn't used at all (it's all "homicide"). Federal court does have a "voluntary manslaughter" charge (so neither murder nor homicide in the statutes. The federal penalties appear to allow longer sentencing than Wyoming statutes might.

The way I'm reading it, federal minimum for voluntary manslaughter is 25 years, while Wyoming has a maximum of 20 years for the same crime...any input/corrections are very much welcomed.

My view of federal court is that it doesn't mess around. Assaults on federal land quickly become "attempted murder" in federal court. The law firm where I worked wouldn't handle such cases, as federal laws are definitely a specialty. It'll be interesting to see, if BL is found alive, I doubt his current attorney will be admitted to federal court. He'd be better served by someone who is familiar with the federal courts in Wyoming.

Since there's evidence of repeated fighting by this couple, it's possible BL would be able to plead out to voluntary manslaughter. (I can't find a federal charge for involuntary manslaughter, but I'm no expert in federal law, that's for sure).

I just looked at the Red, White and Bethune video again. Something always seemed strange and I finally know what. Why is the van visible on the return drive outside of the driver's window, shouldn't it appear on the passenger side instead? Or did it get moved?

They didn't film the return drive.

The view you are seeing outside the drivers window is actually a different camera view. It appears to be looking at the driver when you can see the driver and out the driver window. The view is looking straight ahead out the front window when they first spotted the van.
