It depends on the client and what the issue is but they definitely lie. I have found the client is more likely to tell the truth if they personally do not believe what they did was wrong (like an issue with accounting or compliance) versus something that is morally repugnant. There is always a lot of work reviewing the evidence and then explaining the evidence to the client - that we need to explain this so if there is a good explanation, we should bring it forward.

Thank you. This offers a helpful perspective, not just in this case, but many others cases I may read or follow.

If BL's biggest fear was being exposed, then the Moab incident with LE would definitely be the game-changer. That was big time exposure, and I think it is the factor that changed everything. My opinion is that the trip back to Florida was related to his mental health and his parents encouraged it, and he went back under the guise of needing to empty the storage unit and get some things. Even though that may have been done, that was probably not the primary reason for this trip.
Agree 100%. I think the Moab Police incident unmasked him. He was very angry, but he didn't show his anger to the police. I think he blamed GP for putting him through that event. My opinion is he left her abandoned in SLC out of anger; a form of deserved punishment for putting him on display. When he flew back, I believe that anger manifested itself, again. Very sad for this young beautiful woman. She deserved so much better.

Were they eating or using the free wifi? I believe the incident at the Mexican restaurant was Brian being upset about the bill. I would like to know more about what they really had to spend and how they were spending it.
I've wondered if the trip to the Mexican restaurant could have been Gabby instinctively knowing she should seek to be in public. Because she saw his spiraling violence, probably interspersed with "loving" moments. She may have known that she had to be in public to calm him down (didn't really work tho, did it). That's the only thing that could explain going to that unauthorized and weird camp site on the 26th, yet leaving for the restaurant mid day on the 27th and returning to that same forlorn site. Maybe they had planned to find a better site on return, but she was already dead by then so he went to the same spot, as he knew how isolated it was?

Things were getting out of hand, she knew she had to get into public, it just continued to go wrong, witness his prolonged tantrum in the restaurant, and he IMO kills her when they get back, or on the way, something like that. It could have been just minutes before RW&Bethune saw the door furtively close.

So going to the restaurant could have been a scream on her part, but kept within, that she needed help.

I don't see how a crowded popular restaurant at mid day would have allowed for much internet time. IMO

They can digest large bones too. Gross! I wonder if doing ultrasounds of gators stomachs is a thing. Seems it may be the only way to see if there are human remains in there. I read it does take a while for bones to be digested by their stomach acid.
I don't believe for one minute that BL has been swallowed by an alligator. But if he was, there would be no way to identify which animal ate him in a place with 1000 alligators. So dissection of an alligator is never going to happen in this case, in my opinion.

I also don't think it's crazy to think maybe BL didn't tell his parents anything but they knew that something was wrong once Gabby was reported missing. Think back to Cindy Anthony's 911 call when they found Casey's car and it smelled like decomposition.

When LE showed up at the L house, the L parents may have called their lawyer and said "Brian came back from a roadtrip without his girlfriend and he won't tell us what happened. We thought they just broke up but the police just showed up to take Gabby's van and she was reported missing by her parents. What do we do?"

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to at that moment say "wow, something is seriously wrong and using common sense it's possible a crime was committed. Let's treat this as if a crime was definitely committed."

And from that point on, SB's advice was assuming the worst without knowing one way or another. You would expect them to act as they have even in this fact pattern. I am not saying this is the morally or ethically correct thing to do, just an alternative fact pattern where they don't actually know what happened but they take their attorney's advice to prepare for the worst.

Mr Petito just moved to my town in June. I think what struck me the most out of the CL interview is her husband saying they were living with them in that house for a year while the laundries were in NY. I need to go back and watch the interview with the neighbor that said they just moved back in a few months ago - that renters had been in the house. I assume what she calls renters were really CL and fam and BL & GP. How much time did BL & GP actually live with his parents? They left on their trip sometime in June. All my MOO just first I had heard that and leaves me wondering.

I don't know he's at a higher risk than any of us, quite honestly.

I also didn't think he would be suicidal until very recently myself, that's why I've started wondering. The feeling is not even about the time he's been on the run, it's about his state of mind.

He's a POI in the homicide of his girlfriend, he has lost her forever, there's no turning back that fact, he left all the support he has had in his life. If he's alive and is indeed running, he's completely alone and fear is most likely setting in. He can no longer turn to his parents for help, he's soon going to become more desperate. He may even become depressed realizing the what he has done and if he has any idea that he's a hunted man, he may not want to come back to all of this.

I normally think it takes a really strong person to commit suicide, but now I'm also thinking desperation will become a factor in his mindset. I believe he's at higher risk than the average person because he is a wanted man, while most in this category are usually symptomatic for generally longer times before they act on it. All JMO,, I'm really on the fence at this point.

How will we all feel if it turns out he isn't alive? We should be thinking about that now, it could take a terrible turn for this case, but it would also resolve the case permanently too. jmho

This is puzzling. Why spend all that money just to save a couple hundered max on a storage unit for another month.
Maybe another reason we don't know about why BL went home.
I don't buy the "He and Gabby needed a break" theory personally, Just for him to go back a few days later is odd.
MOO

I agree. Not only that, but his father asked him to come home to help him. He knew Gabby and BL were planning a 4 month trip and saw them fitting the van out. He could have done all that himself over a number of days, asked a friend or hired someone to help him. IIRC it was only the size of a locker, not something large that you might find at a storage facility. It makes no sense to me. Something smells.

Because she was on her phone so much working taking time away from him. She kept wanting to stop at places with WiFi to work. She spent hours on it at a a time and I think he often got restless.
Do we know this for sure? What was she working on? Was it editing and stuff like that for posting? Surely, if the flight back to Florida was a planned break in the itinery, that would have been an excellent time to work on and upload what was done and plan for what was coming next?

Yeah, I never thought that was Gabby because I don't think she would have bought instant noodles and donuts.

I don't think it was Gabby either, but instant noodles would be easy to cook while camping (although not posted on social media), and donuts would be a treat. After all, her father ordered pizza for her as a meal at the SLC hotel.

Plus they probably had very few expenses before they left because they were living with parents. No rent, alone, is huge.
Plus, BL could have been getting unemployment with that extra $600 after he stopped working at Publix. They could have had $6,000 from the stimulus checks, $1000s from the unemployment checks, and $1000s from her paycheck. If they were disciplined, they could easily have set aside more than $10,000 for the trip and have it all budgeted for different things. Thus, they may be going cheap at certain times because they had gone over budget for that week, not because they were broke.

I’m suggesting a court appointment that was able to be disappeared.
Going back for a medical appointment seems super strange to me. He knew months in advance he’d be on the road. He could reschedule.
If he needed a refill of certain meds then certain doctors might require a visit before they would refill certain meds….

I completely agree. The other explanation for him leaving does not make sense.

On one of the single digit threads someone said "do not even lie about what you had for breakfast". (Not sure who but chime in if it was you. ). It was actually quite witty, but drove home the point quite well.

No, not me.

Might well be the case, the timeline would support this. The original body cam video was released by Moab PD on the 16th, and the very next day, BL is on the way to Florida.

Police accused of ‘cover-up’ over delay in releasing Gabby Petito bodycam footage
