I think he killed her night of the restaurant incident in Jackson. He was probably enraged that Gabby went back into the restaurant to apologize for his behavior.
I don't think they even got settled in before he killed her. I'll bet they also had an argument over the camp spot (it wasn't a legal spot; it was in the specified camping area, but not numbered). I have a feeling GP wouldn't have wanted to camp illegally.

Agreed. I don’t condone her slapping him, but I understand why she did. I believe Gabby had tried to use her words, tried to make space, tried to ask him to stop. But you are right! Just telling her to calm down, especially while still instigating the situation and trying to inflame it is just another way to gaslight her.

I have a hard time believing she slapped him solely because he told her to calm down. Not considering the abuse that was witnessed by the people who called 911 and his reaction at the restaurant and heaven knows what else no one saw. I would’ve punched him if he was trying to keep me out of my vehicle, take my phone, and perhaps leave me stranded. And if he made threats while driving.

When someone is trying to harm you of course you slap back. If she had told the complete story during the traffic incident he would probably have taken it out on her later. The officers completely missed the tells.

Even if Gabby had Brian's blood under her nails, I truly expect the defense to excuse it away as rough sex or blood play (don't look it up).
I heard a professional on TV last night explain the difference.
He said when you are literally fighting for your last breath scratches take on a deeper and more targeted appearance. He said it goes beyond the epidermis, into
the dermis and sometimes fatty layer.
Also the skin rolls up under the nails.
*my example- what happens when you use a vegetable peeler on a chocolate bar.

I didn't hear her say she slapped him because he told her to calm down.

I think they had a very heated discussion and painted him In a very bad.light!
The anger turned to rage!
He pounced.

Believe me.it happens really fast!

People can always control their emotions even in a "rage". Rage is just another word for being really angry. You don't lose the ability to think even if in a rage. If he was in a rage he could still think. And if he could not control his rages he had some other type of serious problem, IMO and should have sought a medical opinion. A person with uncontrolled rages should not be out in public interacting with other people because they are a danger to themselves and others. Uncontrolled rage is not normal. I think what you are referring to is some kind of rage people get into that shows how passionate they are about something but it's still controllable and to suggest otherwise excuses it. Actual uncontrollable rage could be like a brain disorder or a form of insanity or something physical, like a brain tumor. I also think it's extraordinarily rare. We saw no evidence of insanity with BL so that tells me BL could have stopped his "rage" at any time, IMO.

BL needs to return to his home, turn himself in to Authorities, explain his actions and take responsibility. No excuses. No pretending he was insane. I don't buy it.

They have to have signature authority from the bank institution for it to be legal. Some do let others use their cards-kids etc but it’s not technically legal.
I know. Years ago, they used to require a notarized statement or at least a note. I remember I let my granddaughter use it when she was young and the cashier called me. Nowadays, life is too hectic. I haven’t seen a lot of card matching up to drivers license. We just swipe and go. I don’t hear cashiers - asking, can I see your card? Same thing at a kiosk.

As of late the option of bypassing your pin is allowed. I was surprised about that.

Brian, is that you?

I agree with your assessment and it brought some thoughts to mind: We've seen that Brian is someone who seems rigid about following his ideology. Example: the "no plastic water bottles" even in a situation where they really needed water and were offered some by the cops during a nonstandard and stressful encounter.

(I'm talking about positive ideologies, like environmental values and commitments to live a low-footprint lifestyle, or to eat healthy, exercise, etc. Not religious ideologies or others based solely on one person's opinion.)

I've been in a relationship with someone who was strongly ideology-driven in this way, and to an extent I am as well, so it didn't feel like a downside to our relationship, even when I was pressured by my partner. I interpreted pressure or chastising by him as me being 'weak' and tempted to compromise my values, and him holding strong and supporting me in sticking with my values.

In fact I believe that kind of support is a major plus in many relationships, and that there is a gray area in the middle in terms of whether the rigid person is offering support or whether they are being oppressive and controlling. Personally I think the path to staying on the healthy side of that line is communication and respect, so that any input is known to be welcomed. Unfortunately too many people don't hold to high standards of communication or of respect, just in general and MEO/MOO.

I can easily see BL being this sort of rigid about his values, and that being the primary source of his criticism of everyone else including GP. And if GP saw BL's beliefs as worthy values, then she could have had a much harder time seeing his oppression/domination/control for what it was.

MOO and MEO

Thank you so much for these insights. You put into words so well this vague set of thoughts that I was grappling with and couldn't put into words. The positive ideologies part is like turning a key in a lock - it helps me see what was going on between them. It put me in mind of my own college-age days, and the ways in which many of us were so stubbornly committed to a beneficial ideology - too stubborn, perhaps.

Anyway, you really have helped me picture what happened much better.

I have given this much thought this morning and I agree. I think the orange paint marks on the trees where she was found are holes that were made to hold up a tent or a tarp.
Would you mind posting photos of the holes? IIRC they were on low-lying logs.

I had this very question yesterday on whether it will discount the results of the autopsy. I agree with you that regardless of what he says or thinks, the autopsy is forensic analysis. It's not just his words but there are going to be pictures and proof of what he reported. Maybe even a few other personnel who were in there. Toxicology reports, weight of the heart/brain or the bones on the neck aren't going change because of his opinion.
They CAT scanned her ENTIRE body.
I am certain opinions are not necessary after seeing results.

You can camp wherever you want in those dispersed national forest areas. There are designated spots but its fine to camp where you have some space from others. Making new fire rings there is not allowed though (but still common and a source of wildfire out there in the past) After looking at the map though they may have actually been into GTNP across the creek? That would technically require a permit... https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd629693.pdf

IMOO... I am having trouble with BL and GP sleeping in a tent on either the night of 8/27 with low temperature of 39, night of 8/28, low temp 33. Anyone else think they were prepared for these temperatures with the proper gear. Sleeping bag, sweatshirts yes but did they have long johns, hats that cover ears etc..? I have skied at 14 below but you have the gear. Were they prepared? Possible theories on how they ended up in this location has been thoroughly discussed but the camping overnight is one I can't seem to accept due to the cold weather at night.

IMO only certain lucky prepared people get choice camp sites in the National Parks because they are crowded and you have to reserve ahead. BL and GP were trying to travel around, save $, camp free... etc. So they had to stay further out, have less amenities, always make sure they had gas, water, non perishable food. No drive through there at Bridger- get up, get water, get wood, make a camp fire, then make coffee in a pot- not a Keurig. Lots of chores. Really cold at night and dark as whatever so if you need something in the van at night or drop something, flashlights better be handy with batteries fully charged (another reason to keep the van "organized" IMO). Would I be able to safely chop some extra wood in the dark with a headlamp? Just not a lot of room for error in planning. Did they have good cold rated sleeping bags? I do not see any pictures of any winter gear. I spent a night in FL as a teenager in an unheated cabin when it went into the 30s and people were mourning their citrus crops and I was (wait for it) an unhappy camper. Were BL and GP unfailingly cheerful and resourceful? Surmounting all hardships with a smile?

Does hair really grow that long in one month?

BL is bald on top, I don't believe he can grow hair like that. Maybe he borrowed one of his mother's wigs! Lol

The best way for him to disguise himself would be to gain about 100 lbs and start dressing more like a woman. The weight gain would change his face dramatically too.

IMO

I agree about DNA under the nails, but remember they were engaged - or at least in a relationship - so any attorney for BL is going to explain that away with that and the fact that they were in a Van for months together. (At least that's what I would start to argue.) MOO

In homicide cases, the nails break in patterns characteristic of an agonized person digging with all their might. It won't be merely blood under her nails, but the condition of her nails at death. The details are grim and I've never seen a jury who saw pictures of the nails (usually magnified but still very relatable - anyone can see that the damage is unusual and consistent with someone fighting for their life).

That is, if that's what happened. Many killers pin down their victims first.
