Brian Laundrie argued in Wyoming restaurant hours before Gabby Petito vanished: eyewitnesses

9/22/21

FIRST ON FOX: One of the last times Gabby Petito was seen alive involved an explosive argument between Brian Laundrie and wait staff at a Jackson Hole restaurant, according to a New Orleans couple who said they witnessed the spat.

[..]

Angelo said she and her boyfriend, Matthew England, were in town for a wedding in late August. They were out to lunch at Merry Piglets, a Tex-Mex restaurant, between 1 and 2 p.m. on Aug. 27, when they said an agitated Laundrie began arguing with a waitress. Four and a half hours later, a travel-blogging couple passed Petito's van at a campsite north of town.

[..]

At one point, Petito came inside and apologized for Laundrie’s behavior, Angelo said.

A manager at the restaurant told Fox News that the business is "super busy during summer" and couldn’t recall the incident. Local police and the sheriff’s department deferred questions to the FBI, which declined to comment.

Brian Laundrie's neighbors speak out amid investigation

Neighbors live across the street from the Laundrie’s home since summer.

They didn’t think much about the van returning, thought both were there but admitted not knowing the family.

Husband saw BL and dad working on a new camper and doing work inside of it. “When they prepared for their trip” he saw them loading it up. NOT the van, the camper shell.

BL, his mom and dad were gone “for the weekend” about a week to a week and a half after BL returned alone in the van.

They told LE about the trip about a week ago (on a Saturday) after they realized someone was missing.

They thought it odd that a 23 year old would go on, what they assumed to be, a camping trip with his folks in such a small camper.

Laundrie's Florida neighbors say family appeared to go 'camping' after boyfriend returned from Wyoming

[..]

The Guthries thought Petito was still living in the home with Laundrie's parents, which the Blue Point, N.Y., native had been doing since she moved to Florida to be with Laundrie.

William Guthrie recalled doing some yard work one day when the Laundries hooked what appeared to be a new camper to the back of their pickup truck – and didn't think much of it.

"I saw them doing some work. And then when they prepared for their trip, I saw them loading the camper."

They said the Laundries were gone "for the weekend" after packing up the new camper, and that when police later came to their home on what they were told was a missing persons case, they mentioned seeing the family go off for the weekend.

William added he found it odd that the parents would go off on a camping trip with their 23-year old son in such a small camper.

Lawyer for #BrianLaundrie tells me via text “I do not know where Brian is or if Brian is alive.” When asked about why he cancelled press conference: “It was canceled because it was no longer in the best interest of the clients.”

Gabby Petito update: Search for Gabby Petito's fiancé Brian Laundrie ends for the day at Florida nature reserve - CNN

North Port Police said the arrival of the dive team "does not mean anything has been found. It's a part of the overall search process."

The team, made up of about 10 divers, was requested by North Port Police on Wednesday morning, said Sarasota County Sheriff's office spokesperson Kaitlyn Perez.

"These divers are specifically trained and very talented in low visibility bodies of water," Perez said. "They dive down where you and I can't see anything at all. They utilize technology and other special equipment to help them get down deep into really deep bodies of water, so they're out there right now to recover whatever it is that they might find."

The fourth day of searching the reserve ended Wednesday evening, according to officials.

"Nothing found. We will be back out Thursday, similar operation," North Port Police tweeted.

The group would not comment on whether they have provided any material captured by the cameras to law enforcement. Investigators are searching the Carlton Reserve for Brian Laundrie.

A similar memorial had been made on Monday, on an open patch of muddy land on the banks of a river near the campsite.

Gary Rider, a friend of Schmidt, said the pair had visited the site on Wednesday and that they had left some flowers next to the other cross.

'We did go – the small cross with flowers was made by Jim and myself,' he told The Independent.

'That larger cross was not done by anyone connected with the search or recovery of Gabby.'

A memorial for Petito will be held on Sunday in New York, the Long Island funeral home confirmed on Wednesday.

Witness describes Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie's Utah fight | wthr.com

CLIPPED :
“The document the Moab City Police Department released Wednesday sheds additional light on that day. And, it's important to note: the written witness statement came from a man who is different from the person heard in a widely-publicized 911 call, in which that other person told a dispatcher Laundrie slapped and hit Petito.

This witness, whose name is Chris, did not call 911 but hailed an officer he saw in person. Chris told officers he arrived around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the Moonflower Community Cooperative in Moab, Utah.

Outside, he saw the couple arguing, and "something seemed off."

Chris told investigators it seemed like they were fighting over a phone, and it appeared the man took the woman's phone. It seemed [Laundrie] didn't want [Petito] to get into the van but she managed to climb in anyway, Chris' statement says.

Chris describes seeing her punching him.

"Why do you have to be so mean," Chris told police he heard Petito say.”
