I know because I looked on newspapers.com and found 31 ads between September 14-30 in the Des Moines Tribune and Des Moines Register stating so. You can look them up too if you make an account. They all look like the ones I've attached, which are the earliest and latest examples I could find...

There are a bunch of newspaper ads from September 1982 saying Maurice wanted to lend money for any purpose, $1000 to $10 million. Also, a local court reporter applied for conservatorship over his property in June 1983.

The ME's office and her nephew are both aware of her likely identity. Last I heard, the ME was trying to see if any records still exist from any of the mental hospitals she stayed in that might help confirm her identification
