Steely: around 17:00 here listen close as Nurmi wraps up his bit..

it ends with Nurmi asking her if she lied before how can the jury believe her now

he ends with that and Juan follows up with a blatant lie she told on the stand just TODAY about the third gas can

I'm confused. We all knew she had two WAMU accts from the earlier deposits, didn't we?

Yes but I am guessing that the prosecution was waiting for the bank statements in order to present them at trial.

And that explains why she didn't pay with cash, because she couldn't. She had to pay with a card.

Didn't one of the receipts have a clerk number on it? I'm not familiar with these stations. Do they have a window where you pay or can you go in?

I bet with Juan's experience in serious trials like this one and with juror's asking questions, that he did not provide the more damning evidence today of the 3 gas cans because he knew that at least 1 juror would ask something regarding this 3 gas cans and JA would lie right to them. I think JA being caught in a lie directly answering to a question of the jurors is VERY detrimental to whatever sympathy she could have been gaining by being on the stand for so long. I think having juror questions makes JA's response that much more critical to the jury because it is much more personal, IMO.
So I feel like Juan knew a question would be asked regarding the gas cans, that JA would like and then in his cross (or whatever it is referred to?) after the juror questions he could introduce the heavier evidence of 3 gas cans to prove (IMO) she is LYING to them.
I think he knew the jury would be infinitely more appalled by her lies when she lied directly to them. I am not sure if I am making sense, lol! This happens a lot.. I have such a fluttery mind I am always losing track of my train of thought haha so, bear with me peas!

I absolutely agree! And maybe that is one of the reasons he kept throwing things out there that didn't seem to go anywhere. Maybe he was trying to leave the jurors with unanswered questions!

Sometimes JVM gets on my last nerve, honestly!!!

:greetings: Glad you've joined us, krissij!!!

She got on my last nerve about two years ago and that is why I havent watched her since. In fact when she is on during the day I hit the mute button.

Beth is the only one with any sense and is totally unbiased and so professional. She needs her own show imo.

IMO

I do have to say Jodi looked prettier today than most. Her hair was softer (maybe she was allowed a shower today?) and she didn't look so dreary like yesterday. Maybe thought she would try to charm the jurors. Wonder if it worked. Ha.

(Mormon Attorney) what terrific insight into Jodi and the kids you work with. Such vast experience. I do see what you are saying.

Can you answer this maybe a little...When you see this and you work with the kids and it's recognized young, is there hope? What happens? If they get along without much intervention or with a family that cannot handle this, does this explain some "sociopathic" adults?

Thanks for asking - really. There is so much hope. The hardest part, honestly, is that these kids are a handful. Often, I have a really committed family and the child will really wear them out. The child can be so charming in public that no one believes the family. Or, by the time the child acts out in public, no one knows what to do.

The primary work is done in the home. But, sometimes families meet the child as this precious china doll only to get harm to animals, fecal smearing, urinating all over, harm to siblings, after the honeymoon period is over. My parents are tired and exhausted and sometimes don't get the help and support they need.

But, is there hope? I will get tears here. With my own child, I have seen so much promise. My child is very different from other kids and will always carry burdens, but my child has made SO MUCH progress. I have been sick and, recently, my child made me a caring card telling me to get well. For a child with abandonment and trust issues, that is HUGE. What is normal for other kids can be a huge victory for these kids. It is hard for them to trust and love. And, maybe my parents won't get total healing, but it is all in degrees. In the beginning, you could not trust my child with a household pet. Literally, the pet would be in big trouble. Now, my child takes joy in helping feed the pets and take care of them (with supervision). These things are huge.

If we identified JA when she was young (in this time period - not 20 years ago), there would be so much help and so much hope. Would she ever be a normal 30 year old? No, like many have shared, she would carry her own scars. But, we sure could have worked on building some attachment, some empathy, some conscience. And, I don't think it would take very much empathy or conscience to NOT do what she did.

There is tremendous hope and there is help. We just have to work to identify these kids young while there is still time for their brains to redevelop. Just like language, if you don't use it you lose it. Kids that don't form attachments often form different brain pathways. The younger we get them, the more we can work on turning that around.

Being a parent, the victories are small and the road is long, but nothing is as precious as seeing even the smallest difference, knowing that the small things are ultimately what matters most.

I hope that you are right! Travis Alexander should not have been murdered. Arias is a real life monster - she has shown that she does not care that she stabbed Travis over two dozen times, slit his throat, and shot him in his head. Arias' criminal behavior, post crime behavior, and trial behavior has shown that Arias is incapable of caring about other people. Arias is such a scary human being - Arias' special brand of evil frightens me (when I'm in my home, for the safety and well being of the people I love). I hope that Arias' "Evil Breed" is rare.

BBM- After this is over, I want JA to submit to a DNA swab. She can't be human. :notgood:

I beg to disagree. Maybe it depends on the Walmart. The one I go to will give me cash back on a debit card. But not on a credit card. I know this for sure because I never carry cash.

This is Walmart's policy regarding a return without a receipt, if she didn't use it:

No receipt? No problem
We do accept returns without a receipt. You will have the option of a cash refund (if the purchase was under $25), a shopping card for the amount of the purchase (if it was over $25) or an even exchange for the product. Also, as applicable, we follow any manufacturer’s warranties.

But, there would still be a record of that return and that is what matters. There is no record of the return.

Many mental health disorders share some symptoms. This is true for Reactive Attachment Disorder and ASPD. Unless it is known that Jodi was grossly neglected/needs not met/ never bonded with her mom or dad/or was allowed to suffer from a painful physical condition as an infant, it shouldn't be assumed that Jodi's behavior is from RAD. IMO, she's just a psychopath and has always been one.

Mark Geragos just on Anderson Cooper talking about how DV experts will neatly weave the memory gap story together for the murderer. Expecting jury to buy it.

Keeping in mind he knows we're aware how successful he was keeping Scott Peterson off death row. :)

hahaha! not after Juan happened this afternoon!

I have a question - wouldn't it be impossible to Travis to speak after the gun shot wound in his head that ended up in his check? I mean the words that JA alleges he said. Or would he only be able to maybe scream and moan.

I've got to repost this again on this thread because it perfectly illustrates why Jodi has so staunchly refused to acknowledge she had a 3rd gas can. It shows that she worked out the math and realized she needed the 3rd can to ensure she could make the entire trip without stopping for gas in AZ.

She says she didn't have three "gas" cans, wasn't one technically a "kerosene" can? I think she would have three cans containing gasoline...but can say she had two gas cans and not be a lie...this time.

Jodi said today she was "pushed to the point" of killing him. Interesting choice of words. Not that she was defending herself, but pushed to the point. That's right. She was pushed to the point of killing him because of her insane jealousy and rage.

That isn't self-defense. It will be interesting what their expert says to explain exactly what her defense is after that statement.

But filling the gas cans in SLC is post-meditation, after the crime.

why deceptly fill the cans in SLC when there was no reason to hide her trip from there to Yreka? Can't figure that out.

Maybe she needed to gas as an accellerant for the fire to burn up the bloody evidence in the desert?
