"This person lived in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and he traveled quite a ways to get to her. He posed as a 13-14 year old to speak with the young girl. Parents need to know who your child is communicating with online. This person was an adult male who is a child sexual predator. This man was so convincing that he convinced this young girl to leave her home and meet him at a place and he took her to Georgia. We hope that justice prevails in this case. He is now in custody for kidnapping of a child under the age of 13. He may be charged with additional charges," said Sheriff Demings.

ORLANDO, FL — An 11-year-old girl who was reported missing out of Orlando on Sunday was found in Bibb County, Georgia and authorities believe she met the man she was found with while playing video games online.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said the 11-year-old girl was found Sunday afternoon at a hotel room with a 24-year-old man. The girl was found safe and the man, who authorities identified as John Peter Byrns of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was taken into custody.

Byrns was reportedly posing as a teenager on the PlayStation network, Click On Orlando reported, citing the Orange County Sheriff's office. Byrns met the girl while playing Minecraft and their conversations then moved to other social media apps, according to Click On Orlando.

“She was chatting with the individual through a game,” a Bibb County Sheriff’s spokesman said in a Monday news conference. “Within the game, you can use a headset to chat with the people you’re actually playing with. So that’s how the first initial contact we believe was made.”

Police believe that Byrns pretended to be a young girl on the game. Then, police allege, he communicated with her on several other video games. At some point, they allegedly began talking on the telephone.

“This is someone that she’s been communicating with online under the guise of being a female and basically has just pulled her into a trap, so to speak,” her father told WESH-TV.
Police say that Byrns drove all the way from the Chicago area to meet the girl. They were allegedly on their way back to Illinois when they stopped at the hotel in Georgia.
“I would say she’s lucky to be alive,” Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings told reporters on Monday. “She’s lucky that the circumstances aren’t any worse than what they are.”
