If I were already thinking about settling down as I'm getting towards my 70's, I think an incident such as this would make that decision a ton easier for me. I don't think many people stay on that long, as it stands.

It also appears there are a few others that decided to step aside (and notice their ages):

The "timing" has little to do with anything other than the deadline for registration to run.[/quote]

Of course it doesn't. ;) ;)

And I don't agree with her. So, there we are.

Yes, I knew what she was saying. That's never stopped it from happening before.

And that's a satisfactory reason for it to happen again?

Not that anyone should EVER be railroaded, but I can definitely see that whether or not that person has a family to support makes it relatively worse in the eyes of someone who's trying to prevent the railroading. Just adds insult to injury and harms victims even more innocent than the "railroadee," imo

The ONLY victim imo is Trayvon. Everyone else made their own decisions, and now they at least have the opportunity to live with them.

ITA. If a person has a family to support, maybe they should think more about that family before doing or saying anything that could affect their ability to support their family. I actually feel less sympathy for Lee because he didn't just put himself at risk, he put his family at risk too.

Based on a recent case we have seen it is pretty hard to judge what a jury will or will not do. And just because someone owns a gun does not mean they naturally would think GZ did the right thing. I would say the majority of people who carry concealed weapons are responsible citizens and are even more aware of situations they need to avoid than those who do not carry. GZ demonstrated how irresponsible he was by getting out of the car to follow someone he suspected might be involved in committing a non-violent crime when in reality the person was just walking back to where they were staying for the weekend. jmo

But imo, this case is nothing at all like FCA's case. It reminds me all too much of the racially divisive trials back in the 90's in Los Angeles.

It was asked why it was timed so weirdly with the police chief resigning. The registration papers were due Friday. He didn't turn them in. Not all that strange. It's not like they were both forced out at the same time. It's looking like the chief may not even resign.

I'm posting this older article for a couple of quotes that answer some questions that have come up:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/11/opinion/hostin-trayvon-martin-jury/?iref=obnetwork

If Zimmerman was the initial aggressor, he cannot avail himself of the protection of the "stand your ground" law. Former Florida State Rep. Dennis Baxley, the co-sponsor of the law, told me by phone that the law doesn't apply to Zimmerman if he pursued Martin and was the initial aggressor. And he is right.

Martin notices Zimmerman is following him and tells his girlfriend, with whom he is on the phone. She tells him to run, and he agrees to walk quickly.

Three witnesses saw Zimmerman straddling Martin in the grass. The incident happens 70 yards from the home Martin was walking to, not near Zimmerman's SUV.

Zimmerman isn't tested for drug or alcohol consumption and is allowed to leave the police station with the clothes he was wearing that night.

I realize this is slightly off-topic, but the more I hear about George Zimmerman, the more he sounds like a combination of Casey Anthony and Joran Van Der Sloot!!!
Celebrating school they never finished, sense of entitlement, father is judge/LE...

Bingo! Let's not forget his lack of remorse and his lies, and a family and friends willing to cover up for him and/or happily drinking the kool aid. Hmmmmm.

He's also very successful at presenting a soft-spoken, 'butter wouldn't melt in his mouth' demeanor and playing up his 'victimhood'. He looks and acts soooooo unassuming and nonthreatening. Until you see the relentless, imperious anger behind his eyes. And the gun in his pocket. And the hollow point bullets. IMO.

I don't see how Lee put his family "at risk" by acting in his best judgement as Police Chief.

And apparently the majority of the City Council sides with me.

It remains to be seen whether GZ will receive immunity based on SYG. I don't think there is sufficient reasonable evidence to prove GZ did not shoot in self-defense, regardless of my opinions and feelings about his choices and behavior that night. Perhaps there will not be a trial at all. In any case, I doubt GZ will be convicted of 2nd degree murder. But then, I've been wrong before (FCA).

I personally feel very, very sad for TM's parents. To me, it is sickening that their raw grief and TM's senseless death and his memory have been forever tainted by the circus which has ensued. I believe TM and his parents have been re-victimized and misled by some who claim to be helping them. The truth does matter. Very much IMO. If I were TM's parents, I would want to know the truth.

In the meantime, this poster is suffering from 'big-girl-panty failure.' In a perfect world, scarce and confusing facts could be analyzed and differing perspectives could be discussed respectfully, but it doesn't seem to work that way in an emotional case like this, and that I understand. Stepping away from this thread for the time being, HTH. Peace to all. JMO

Then why is he having to step down, and why are they finding a new chief if what he did was totally right? That makes no sense to me. He should have thought more before he spoke. When you have people depending on you and you are in a high, political, and public position, you have to watch what you say and do. He did not, IMO.

What? If you claim SYG it not only gives you immunity from prosecution, it also gives you immunity from investigation?

So 3 people? That's quite underwhelming...IMO

Only if you go full time and complete all the required courses. I can't speak for Florida, but California colleges are so crowded that lots of students can't get all the courses they need in 2 years. Many also work full-time and don't carry a full-time course load.

But no matter how long or why it takes someone to finish the required courses, it is still a 2-year degree, not a full bachelor's degree.

Heck no! Maybe SPD didn't know that though?
