Out of pure speculation, I understand that it may not be the culture to call the police. However, if she really thought her boyfriend got jumped, why didnt she call a family member, mom, dad, cousin that night? I would think she would be pacing by her phone if it just went suddenly dead after her description of the incident. Are you telling me that she did not call his mother or home number after that? I don't think she is telling the truth. Her phone and text records need to be pulled IMO. If she is not telling the truth, and TM was boasting he was going to deck the weird guy, and teach him a lesson, she wouldn't think much of it, and would have gone about her business that night, thinking all was ok. What did she do right afterward?

You really need to go back in the threads and find the previous discussion and links. Please, my sons do not have his friends parents numbers. She was also hundreds of miles away. There wasn't enough time for texts about GZ to fly back and forth. And why text when he was on the phone with his GF?

But it DOES have something to do with this case. It has a lot to do with this case, imo. My son is 23 and is mixed race. I have had to tell him forever that he has to be above board and upfront because people are going to be suspicious of him at times.

Now WHY is that? Is it just out and out racism by whites? Or is there a reason that a watchman is going to be suspicious and even afraid of a black teen wearing a hoodie? Black on black crime is indicative of the heightened level of violence that many young 'thugs' play out. We have a lot of 15 yr old black kids packing guns in their baggie pants. And that is no joke.

Have you ever watched the 'First 48' ? That documents some of the out of control thuggery that is out there. Teens killing each other over 20 dollar bags of weed. Shooting random drivers so they can use their cars for an hour or so.

That is relevant, imo, because that is why people might see a 6 ft tall black teen in a hoodie, walking the neighborhood, and be afraid of them. Because statisitcally, that teen is five times more likely to be armed than a white or Asian teen wearing the same hoodie.

I watch the First 48 all the time. Whenever someone claims self-defense, they charge them -- immediately -- with murder and let the courts sort out the rest.

Trayvon Martin case: Looking ahead to grand jury hearing

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-trayvon-martin-20120329,0,4927997.story

Despite protesters' demands for the arrest of George Zimmerman, the Sanford, Fla., neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, it could be days, weeks or possibly months before state and federal investigations determine what -- if any -- charges should be filed.

We asked University of Florida law professor Kenneth B. Nunn to survey the legal process unfolding in the case that has sparked nationwide outrage. In laying out the landscape, Nunn noted one major caveat: Details and leaks in the case are unfolding on a near-daily basis, making it a highly unpredictable situation.

"At this point, anything could happen; there are so many different scenarios," he said.

How odd that you admire the classy behavior of the McClains, yet refuse to follow their example! If THEY can forgive Lee's error (one made in the heat of the moment), why can't you?

Touche, Nova! And food for thought, for sure. I guess I'm a bit slower to forgive and forget. But I'll take a lesson from the grace of the McClains. And from you. ;)

I have to admit that I never much cared for Spike Lee or his movies to begin with, though.

I have to LOL when I see the term 'mixed' used. We are all mixed! There is not a purebred amongst us.

I would imagine that's because it makes for good television... They're not going to air the boring cases that never make it anywhere.

MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - For the first time since that fateful night on February 26, the father of a neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed an unarmed teenager sat down for a television interview.

Robert Zimmerman, father of George Zimmerman, said he decided it was time to speak out for his son, against the advice of others. He shared with us what George said happened on the night that 17-year-old Trayvon Martin died.

Complete coverage of Trayvon Martin shooting

"It's my understanding that Trayvon Martin got on top of him and just started beating him," the 64-year-old Robert Zimmerman said.

He said he felt his son has been portrayed in the wrong way. He also said he and his family have received death threats and asked that we not show his face on camera.

What does anyone expect his Father to say? Of course he's going to defend his son!! He wasn't at the scene and everything he is saying is coming from GZ's mouth. Too bad Trayvon can't tell his side of the story!

Love this quote at the bottom...

"Kossmann said the public will have to trust him to deliver all money raised for Zimmerman in the absence of an accountant, non-profit status and other common features of organized fundraising efforts."

Well at least they haven't started trademarking him yet.

Why are you bringing this up here? It's kind of irrelevant. The person who killed the young black teen is a grown white/hispanic man?

What does any of what you're talking about have to do with TRAYVON? Please let me know, because I don't see it...

Because the man who killed him was wrong, obviously. But I am talking about the righteous indignation from the black activists, acting incredulous at the thought a watchman would be suspicious of a black teen wearing a hoodie.

I am saying 'get real' and look at why that might be. And saying it is racist, is unfair, imo. I see it as indicative of the violence that happens in greater numbers with black teens and we should be dealing with that too.

"Blacks are under attack," said the Rev. Jesse Jackson, irresponsibly turning the Florida shooting death of an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin, at the hands of Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman into a barometer of black-white "race-relations."

Thanks for providing a quote which helps prove my point.

Trayvon Martin: New witness to Trayvon Martin shooting to appear on CNN tonight

n anonymous witness plans to appear on CNN tonight and disclose what happened the night Neighborhood Watch volunteer George Zimmerman shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford.

Maybe I am not a easily intimidated person because I've been to some very dangerous places here in the United States. One of my favorite places is Detroit and I go there at least once a year. I'm usually the only white person anywhere I go in Detroit. It doesn't bother me?

But I love skydiving, rollercoasters, and jumping off buildings too (Vegas). I think I might be crazy?

ETA: I am always going to the USA fleemarket in Miami! Love that place! They have the best mango's! Mango's and Heineken! Yummy!

Katy does have a point though about stereotypes and what we are constantly fed via media/etc. As I said earlier, it's fear of the unknown.

It would make for great television to see George Zimmerman arrested too.

I personally would like the police to do a more thorough investigation, since it seems like their incompetence get the better of them once again. IF he arrested and later found acquitted, that is fine with me. What isnt fine with me if he isnt charged at all. I see this situation getting worse and worse, as people will get hurt and even killed in this aftermath.

Well, the Sanford Police Department did such a bad job of investigation that they are completely out of it now. There is a Special Prosecutor appointed by the Florida Governor and the US Department of Justice is also investigating.

Special prosecutor: I may need no grand jury in Trayvon Martin case
5:30 p.m. EST, March 28, 2012|

By Rene Stutzman, Orlando Sentinel

The special prosecutor in the Trayvon Martin case said she hopes to make a decision without a grand jury about whether to arrest the man who killed the unarmed black 17-year-old in Sanford, according to a Florida newspaper.

Angela Corey, the state attorney in Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, took over the case Thursday when Gov. Rick Scott named her special prosecutor following growing protests and complaints by civil rights leaders that local authorities had botched the investigation.

"I always lean towards moving forward without needing the grand jury in a case like this," the Miami Herald quoted her as saying. "I foresee us being able to make a decision and move on it on our own."

Efforts by the Orlando Sentinel to reach her Wednesday were not successful. A spokeswoman in her office would not confirm the quote and said Corey was concentrating on the investigation and would be unavailable indefinitely.

Justice Department intervention in Trayvon Martin case unusual, but not unprecedented, experts say

By Halimah Abdullah
3:01 PM on 03/21/2012

The Justice Department's decision to investigate the fatal shooting of an unarmed African American Florida teen by a white member of the neighborhood watch is an unusual step, experts say -- one hastened by the case's racially-charged, high-profile nature. And it is unlikely to result in a prosecution.

"It's an unusual and extraordinary step by DOJ," said Michael Seigel, a law professor at the University of Florida and a former federal litigator with the U.S. Attorney's office, during the Clinton administration. "They usually do it when it's controversial and high
profile cases."

"The higher profile the case the more likely the Justice Department is to get involved," said David Remes, an attorney with Appeal for Justice, a human rights and civil liberties law practice. "Justice may be blind but its resources are not infinite."

alright I just saw a snip of this on John King and they have a previously unknown (to the public witness) that says GZ was on top in the grass and heard gunfire but did not see a flash.

An eyewitness to the Trayvon Martin shooting says George Zimmerman didn't look injured after the incident. Watch the preview of Anderson's interview and hear the full account tonight on AC360° at 8 and 10 p.m. ET.

I DO think it is a possibility that what RZ told that news station is true.

it could have played out like that.

Thanks for the news, tehcloser:) Anonymous witness, hmm? I'm skeptical about this...but curious...which was their diabolical plan in the first place, I suppose? :)

I agree. I am not defending GZ or saying he should not have been arrested. I am talking about the black activists who are acting all outraged that anyone would be suspicious of a black teen walking around the neighborhood in a hoodie. They are saying it is outright racism, and I am saying that it is unfair to label it as such. Black teens are bringing on that suspicion themselves in many instances, because of the higher levels of violence and crime.

I lived literally 5 miles from where Rodney King was beaten. I was home the night when the riots started and it was horrific and frightening to say the least. I'm fearful this will happen again! I just hope the Sanford Police think it's worth other people losing their lives over GZ's irresponsible behavior. Because during the Rodney King riots a lot of innocent people lost their lives just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I say at least arrest GZ until they figure out what really happened? That is usually the normal protocal and if it were one of us you know darn well we'd be sitting in a cell right now!!
