Hate to say this out loud but it sounds like they met onboard,ended up on a balcony of one of their rooms and there was some "action" going on where perhaps he was sitting on the railing.. lost his balance during the course of things and she made a grab for him or he her and over they went....

That's the same thing I was wondering but after reading that the male was naked I think maybe not.

I've been on a couple of cruises and I think it would be easier to slip under the railing then to fall over it. Unless you're sitting on it getting your picture taken (but then there's that naked thing again). Did they ask them how they fell overboard? Strong wind?, ship was rolling?...

I hope that they can shed some light on how and why people fall off of the ships. It may explain why so many people are missing after cruises.

I think most people fall off because they have been drinking. At least that's my opinion. I've been on cruises, and you really have to want to go over the side, to go over. I wonder if in their drunken state, they think that they will just hit the water and be fine. You don't see a lot of people trying to survive a 50-foot fall from a balcony (in a hotel) that has concrete below.

I also think that some of these folks commit suicide.

And on a more sinister side...if you really wanted to get rid of someone, a cruise is a great place to do so. Slip something in a drink, and give them a little push...and they are gone. That's that. And I personally believe that there's some of this going on. Murders happen on land, why wouldn't you expect it to happen at sea?

By the time it's reported or someone figures out someone is missing, it's almost always too late to find the person. And the ships aren't registered in the US, so they don't have to adhere to our laws.

I am sure there are cameras on many of the outside decks, but there's nothing that shows what's going on on the balconies. But I personally believe a lot of these people overboard cases are due to too much alcohol consumption.

I love to cruise. Our last cruise was on HAL. We loved every minute of it. It was also like a nursing home on the high seas. It was quiet and people were polite. No drunks running the halls (we had that happen before).

Scandi, maybe you could draw us a picture so that we can see what you mean. I think she had her arms around his thighs, so when that moment happened, he was overcome with ectasy, unconsciously leaned backwards, lost his balance, and started going over backwards, his legs just caught her under the arms, and flipped her up over the rail. It works every time.

Of course when he tried to grab something, he grabbed her hair, and that made certain that she went with him.

I can hear the whole thing now.

Couldn't his clothes have come off after he fell into the water? I always heard that if you're in the water your clothes weigh you down and that you should remove them. Was someone pulling my leg? Please tell me cuz God forbid if it happened I would hate to be pulled from the water with no clothes for no good reason.

I read (MSNBC.com) that the two did not want the circumstances of their accident revealed and that they did not want any publicity around the incident. Sounds like they were up to no good! How embarrassing and nearly fatal. Thank goodness there were witnesses to notify the ship personnel. I am sure that many of these shipboard disappearances are just this stupid. Someone drunk sat or climbed up on the rail and over they went, after dark, with no witnesses. I had a co-worker who fell, while drunk, from a third floor exterior stairwell. He hit the second floor rail on his way down, somewhat slowing his fall. He still broke vertebrae in his neck and was in halo for over 6 months. He's lucky he didn't get a "permanent halo", if you know what I mean!

She and a friend had invited a group of people, including Guzman to a party in her cabin. From the magazine: "Guzman and his friends told several passengers that he had merely been standing next to the railing when Partee 'came out of the room and jumped on him piggyback,' says McCue, who heard this version from a ship casino dealer who spoke at length with Guzman. 'He said she took a running jump and as she tried to land on his back, she did a leapfrog forward. He grabbed her leg to try to save her, and the momentum pulled him in after her.' "

Well that would be a nice, innocent explanation except for the naked part. What did it say about that? Did he take off his clothes b/c they were weighing him down or were they partying in the buff?

This may be why he removed his clothes. It's hard to say. They were on a balcony and fell overboard. I don't know what kids do these days, but if I wanted a little hanky panky, I would take the girl back to my room, not fool around on a balcony where the party is going on inside.

Perhaps, he removed his clothes in order to stay afloat and to help the girl to stay afloat. It was five hours of wading water. I can well imagine the guy was helping the girl to survive. So, why not do anything possible to aid in that effort, to include removing your clothes?

They weren't found together, but not far apart. A Coast Guard helicopter spotted Guzman and rescuers on their way to him spotted her nearby. They first rescued Partee, a certified lifeguard, had broken ribs and a lung contusion. Guzman had no injuries and his Air Force training included a water survival course. The credit is given to the Grand Princess' captain, Ed Perrin, who managed to turn the ship around in just 10 minutes. He turned off the ships' engines and asked passengers to listen for the pair. Partee got off the ship in Cancun for hospital treatment, Guzman continued on the cruise.

Him supposedly being nude wouldn't be surprising since he has had a water survival course: you can take your clothes off, knot them on one end, get some air into them by holding them above the water (ocean always has a breeze going), then tie them off, for a floating device. You can do this pretty quickly if you have had the training, in the long run saving your treading energy.
