I've deleted a number of posts on this thread already. The next step is to remove it altogether. Your choice.

It's a deal!

So let's see: Notre Dame, Boston College, Gonzaga are in. I don't think any of the Loyolas made it.

What other schools are we rooting for as the NCAA tournament begins?
For our Protestant friends, Oral Roberts U. made it in! :D

Well, let's not forget Creighton, Marquette, and Xavier, Nova.

Wouldn't dream of it, Maral! Though I will have to support UCLA over Gonzaga, if both make it to the second round.

Jews never had to "play" victims. Others cast us in that position quite well.

I'm pretty sure DK meant *I* was "playing" victim, not the Jews. I wasn't, but I think that's what he meant. (ETA: at the time. Since Jeana has already been bothered, I want to make it clear there is no problem between DK and me.)

I'm sorry, Jeana, I didn't realize. I thought we were pretty much all being quite civil.

Well, that's okay, Nova. My son has already told me he would disown me if I didn't support his alma mater, UNLV.

I don't recall now, lol. But no, there is no problem between us and we were being quite civil exceot for when Narla stirred things up a bit. Not sure who told her you and I were fighting, which we weren't.

Agreed. Our disagreement about the use of the term "hate speech" was entirely political. It wasn't personal OR religious.

I wrote what I did because I noticed that one of your later responses to me (the witty one advising abstention) had been deleted. I don't know why. Sometimes posts are deleted because they quote or inspire problematic posts; and sometimes they are deleted in haste because the Mods don't have time to sit and think about each of the thousands of posts at WS.

In any event, I certainly wasn't offended by anything in that post and I hope nobody complained about it. And that's why I made the point that you and I are not abusing one another (or the TOS, I hope). :)

Strict new rules issued by the Pope for Catholics. Sacrament not to be given to remarried Catholics unless they remain celibate with their new partners, sacrament not to be given to Protestants, and re-establish Latin mass with Gregorian chants.

Will that affect the numbers of Catholics, as recorded in the '07 church yearbook?

What does that mean, LP? The Latin Mass (with Gregorian chants) is a beautiful service, but surely the Pope isn't abolishing all masses in the language of the celebrants!

I doubt that would affect the numbers of Catholics because these aren't exactly new rules. What the Pope did was just reaffirm the teachings that the Catholic Church has always held.

The re-establishment of the Latin Mass with Gregorian chants is a suggestion from the Pope where there are large numbers of international participants.

"Sacrament not to be given to remarried Catholics unless they remain celibate with their new partners"

That's not a new rule?? Not that I've followed all that closely, but I've never heard of that one!

Whether they are strict new rules or the confirmation of old ones, do they reflect the beliefs of members of the Catholic church? I was just wondering if stressing a strict continuation of rules about sacraments, annulments, and return to a more Latin mass will be appealing or not appealing to Catholics and prospective Catholics.

This has always been my understanding - though of course it doesn't count if the former marriage was annulled by the Catholic Church.
