2009.11.06 Forensic Entomology Report Released #2

OK, OK, they were not in the trunk, they were in the trash bag, which had just recently been tossed out of the trunk.

And the duct tape was not on the skull; it was on the hair that was on the skull. Blah blah blah, more Cheney Mason word games.

Yep, I'm thinking these defense clowns like the taste of foot!
I suppose when you can't argue against the evidence, argue that the evidence wasn't even there !!
Bet they'll come up with a humdinger for the 31 days too ... I can hardly wait

ummm, I'm also wondering what kind of come back they'll have if the maggots found in that same trunk contain Caylee's DNA ?

Thank you PattyG!

Has the report about the 2 hairs found in the paper towels found with the bug evidence ever been released to us?

Defense: No 'Coffin Flies' In Casey's Trunk
Trial Could Pit Bug Experts Against One Another

Video Report: http://www.wesh.com/video/25844230/detail.html

Anthony defense attorney Cheney Mason said the defense disagrees with the finding. Mason said defense experts claim there were no coffin flies in the trunk at all.

Haskell has studied entomology for more than 50 years and teaches students at Saint Joseph's College in Indiana. He teaches a formula that uses temperature and environment to predict a window of time when someone died.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's defense is firing back at one of the prosecution's key witnesses.

Hmm...... firing back? Another headline that doesn't fit the facts.
I just watched the very brief video segment. Looks more like Wesh trying to bump Bob Kealing's exclusive with Dr Haskel.
Mason reacts to Kealing's statement/question about coffin flies, with his slightly bewildered look. Then he answers with ..... "Who said there was? Kealing responds.... Dr Neil Haskel, to which Mason answers..... "Our experts disagree". Mason then walks off.

Ole Cheney just winging it again?

Lets see if he has anything to say after Dr Haskel's long ovedue deposition, later today.

Thanks nums24

BBM

That was my impression. Mason has a tendancy to play spin the defense bottle. It's his job. But IMO the insects don't lie. The defense, however, just, well, spins.

Cheney is known as the "king of reasonable doubt"..as said earlier, this will be one expert against the other and I'm thinking the State will come up the winner...the totality of the evidence is what will convict ICA, not to mention that critical 31 day lapse on alerting authorities...JMHO

Bugs, Smell Of Death Key To Casey Anthony Prosecutors Forensic Entomologist To Testify At Anthony Murder Trial Next Year

Haskell inspected the trunk of Anthony's car in December 2008, six months after the prosecution claims Caylee Anthony's body was inside.

In his report, he noted that a "strong decompositional odor was still present" in the trunk.

Haskell says he's smelled decomposition thousands of times and he wouldn't mistake the familiar odor for anything else.

Orlando criminal defense attorney Richard Hornsby, who is not affiliated with the Anthony case, says the flies identified by Haskell provide a scientific basis for prosecutors to argue that Anthony was driving around with her daughter's corpse in the car. "There's little doubt this is going to be compelling evidence for the jury," he believes.

The jury might go on a field trip to see and smell this car themselves. I believe they will get Caylee the justice she most deserves...No one else had custody of Caylee, there is no Zani the nanny, it's all on ICA..JMHO

Justice for Caylee

I think it was The Queen..

Wasn't a Canadian coin though. :) But.... if the Queen gets residuals for kinda having her image used in the commercial then maybe she'll be flush to pay for her own grandsons wedding rather to impose on the taxpayer like ICA does. Meeeeoooow. It's true though. :)

Mason is freaking unbelieveable. So what, evidence is or isn't there if only YOU say so? If there's something different, you're in shock, like that person made it up? They couldn't possible be right and you be the wrong one? What a jerk! Yeah, bring that attitude at trial, please do! I really can't STAND Mason. He's starting to outshine Baez in this defense team for biggest you know what. Sheesh.

Is there anywhere else to read this report? I keep going around in a circle with the doc stock link. Thanks.

I believe as AZ indicates above, CM's argument will be something along the lines of "No coffin flies were found in the car". Well yes. They were found in the trash tossed from the car. What he conveniently bypasses is that GA had time to clean and prep the car itself before LE had access to it. So the worst of the physical evidence had been cleaned from the trunk, all that really remained were smells and stains.

This will go hand in hand with defense claims that the prosecution cannot prove that Caylee was murdered because they cannot state a clear and definitive COD. ("Don't you know 2 year olds die naturally all the time wrapped in duct tape and stuffed in trash bags, while saturated with chloroform! It's quite common. It was probably some sort of weird fetish experimentation. A self induced death by misadventure, on the victims part. No need to blams my client for that!")

RS&BBM.

The defense's only, ONLY, hope is to wedge ONE tiny sliver of reasonable doubt into ONE juror's mind. That's the only option they have, and IMO it's the only option they have been single-mindedly pursuing from the get-go.

Unfortunately for them, they have to manufacture these doubts.

Fortunately for Caylee, the State has the truth and the facts on their side.

But the forensic report says "large numbers" of this insect were found in the trunk. They did not just find one.

And also, the report says the DECOMPOSITION FLUID on the rug in the trunk - So even if there are no insects (and there are) how do they explain the decomposition fluid from the remains. A dead body was in that trunk.

Just a thought or two I am having this morning. The defense is supposed to be taking the deposition of Dr. Haskell today via Skype, right? So, when will the SAO take the deposition of the defense bug expert, Dr. Huntington? Or have they already? I've got a crate of oranges and a 19 day old pizza that says there will be no trial testimony by Dr. Huntington. Maybe the defense just pulled him because he was a student of Haskells and they are all about the intimidation and games. IMO, it would be career suicide to go into court and try to dispute the findings that are, for the most part, indisputable. I mean, if he paid attention in class, he should come up with the same conclusion as his teacher, right? So, what is the purpose of using someone who was taught by the States expert? Can they really disagree with their findings that much? Is there some sort of grudge by the student towards the teacher? Or is this just another piece of the BS that JB is going to pull until he can beg the SAO for a plea deal? JMO.

IIRC Baez wanted Dr Haskell as well but the Prosecution got to him first, unless it was another Expert..
Also, there is a Forensic Entomologist right here in Florida at University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville..

Here is a link to the American Board of Forensic Entomologists..
There are 15 of them.
http://www.forensicentomologist.org/members.html

All have Diplomates, except for 2, and there is a Forensic Entomologist in Florida(Gainesville)

Hmmm. Nothing against Tim Huntington, but I'm wondering how well he did in Haskell's class. Was he a star student or is Haskell now thinking, "I knew I failed that kid for a reason."

It'll be interesting to see student versus teacher in court. I hope Haskell's depo makes the defense nervous!

Also, he is awfully young for a case of this magnitude. I would think they would try for someone more seasoned.
