Yes, Cubans are very protective of their children. I can't understand why they would want to go there. JB is banking on this ethncity to get him out of this and I truly believe that he thinks that KC is innocent and even if most of Miami is made up of Cubans and they are culturally very family oriented, they will see that KC is innocent. This is not going to end up well for KC is this COV is granted.

  • #142
If COV is granted I pray they don't also grant it going to Miami. Miami is Baez's "playground" and I can imagine him in all his "glory" puffed up like a peacock and doing pressers outside the courthouse in two different languages. Please, Strickland, if you must, send this to Jacksonville or some other location.

Quite frankly, I believe JB is just doing anything and everything to cause distractions from the facts of the case......
Even if they held this trial in Alaska, the facts don't change, and the majority of the people will still see that, a child was murdered, and her mother was the last actual known person to have been seen with her. Her mother never reported her missing, the grandmother did....The mother did nothing to help LE to find the child....as she was too busy partying, and worring about men.
See, the facts don't change.........people don't change......only the location changes......so why bother to spend more tax-payers money?

The answer is obvious- JB is from Miami and wants to be in the spotlight in his home town- he would probably be on the news 3 times a day. I truly don't think for JB- that any of this is about KC even- he is showing an ego that won't quit- which is so unethical.
This is just my opinion.....

Even though JB is Hispanic, his client is Caucasian and his client is blaming a Hispanic "nanny" for abducting and murdering her child. I don't think it will work at all. I also feel the jury would be insulted by this tactic. MOO

eta ~ I also believe the Judge may try to seat a jury in Orange Co. before ruling on this motion.

We have all ready had a Governor who was Hispanic. And I really highly doubt he is the first Hispanic lawyer with a big cause. Which might be why HE is the only one saying such BS. I think he is just fishing with that comment. Trying to find some whine that the media will pick up on and report for him. To help his client. This one just falls flat.

However, sending this case to South Florida is wrong for the reasons you have stated. This isn't about who/what the lawyer is, but the client. And she isn't Hispanic, and she is claiming a Hispanic did iit and believes everyone should automatically believe her because??? Yes, I can see that going over well in Miami.

I believe that in Miami, any Jury would want to hear/see more about this Hispanic Nanny who did it. Jose wouldn't be able to toss that in there, and expect it to 'catch' as is. Unless he is prepared to prove there was a Hispanic Nanny, Jose best stay away from a Hispanic Jury.

If I was a betting person, I would bet he picked a place he knew wouldn't be picked. So he could latter whine about his spot not being chosen. This way he doesn't have to waste time trying to figure out odds on this spot or that spot.

I am still holding out for the plea bargain-after all is said and done, Casey does not want to die for this crime. Right now she is caught up in all of the attention being paid to her, but at the end of the day she will lose her life if she does not plead. At some point, this has to hit her on the head.

Early on when the speculation was that JB would ask to move the case to Miami, we all knew that was pure insanity given the fact that he is blatantly trying to appeal to Hispanics and there is such a strong sense of family and revering children from my understanding....he would be better off in a college town where people might get why she felt the need to party for 31 days and not tell anyone her child was dead/had been kidnapped or whatever the scenario is being presented by her defense team....then again perhaps that little detail will not play anywhere.

I completely agree with you ..
Baez just wants his ego stroked ..

I don't agree with the sunshine law and I don't apperciate the eye rolling. IMO I have never seen a case get this much spot light people are IMO turning it into a circus.... Not only the state her attorney but her parents as well.

It's ok not to agree with it. A lot of folks don't. But it's the law. <shrug>

I also understand the stuff about the spot light and circus. 100% agree.

Not sure what any of that has to do with your claims of leaks in this case. One thing I am really confused on, if there is as much as you say, how is it that none of it made the news? That none of it has made it's way to here before now?

Do you know who leaked? So we can follow the story to make sure that person gets what they deserve.

Baez doesn't get to pick the town for the change of venue, that's up to Judge Strickland...which the judge does have another option. He can bus in jurors from another locale which would be much cheaper than moving 200 witnesses to a new venue..

His sense of entitlement is staggering, just like CA's..this is why KC and Baez get along so well, they are both seasoned at spinning the truth..

Where ever this case gets moved, the facts will not change.

He is hoping for an hispanic jury, who will no doubt take huge offense to the fact KC blamed this fictious hispanic nanny as the culprit.

Let things fall as they may for KC will not be acquitted or found not guilty...:behindbar

She will not clue into reality, until after the first trial. Then it will be to late for one.

I think she is being encouraged to stay in that dream world. Look at what she wrote about the reporter asking her if she killed her daughter. What Lawyer would encourage her to write something stupid like that out? Shouldn't he have tried to make her realize that THAT is her new reality and what that reporter did was perfectly acceptable behavior??

JB is encoruaging that mind set, those types of unrealistic thoughts. Which is why the Judge tried to helop, but making her attend the hearings. So she would get out in public and have a chance to get a reality check.

She will not plea bargain. She doesn't believe she needs to do so. And no one is telling her any thing different. Not even her family who "supports' her.

Nope, haven't seen them yet. Can't wait to see Casey's affidavit either. Poor WFTV can't do anything right according to Jose and Casey. They upset Jose today because he was kind enough to hold his press conference at the top of the news hour but they chose not to run it and then Kathi Belich had the nerve to ask a hardball question. And according to her affidavit Casey didn't like when Kathi asked her "Did you kill Caylee?" when she got out of jail the first time IIRC. I wonder how Casey liked it that time when Kathi asked "Why are you strutting like that? lol."

A school closed for the week because of swine flu and there was a conference for that. And media chit chat afterwords, of course.

Not sure of the time or the channel, cause I was flipping when I caught it. This might be why they refused to lead Baez.

IT's a hot topic everywhere, but.. Our tourist industry is all ready hurting. The Swine flu things is going to make it worse. Health and Jobs, makes it a high interest story. They are just now confirming cases here in Florida.

Is he really wanting to change venue to Miami??? or is he just saying that to throw people off?
If he really thinks he has a chance in Miami, then he is nuts. I grew up in Miami and I am cuban and I'll tell you that for the most parts cubans are the most overprotective people when it comes to their children. Hope he knows not to pick a cuban to be in the jury, cuz then his goose is cooked.
Try Broward county, he's got a better chance here in Broward. Any way doesn't matter where he goes in every one knows the "31 days" there is no escape from that one!!
Oh I was just curious as to why he didn't choose Gainsville or Jacksonville? It's a college town and I would believe that there's not much coverage on Casey there.

Great point!! Don't forget the large Haitian population in Miami. They are extremely family oriented as well; their children are valued members of the family-unlike KC and her family. Please don't go down there and pull your heroic Hispanic lawyer junk, its not gonna fly-especially when your client accused a Hispanic woman (remember Susan Smith saying a black man took her kids-big problem!!). Besides the Hispanic and Haitian communities, I think most ethnic groups value children a heck of alot more than your client. The evidence will speak for itself. Game over JB.

I sure wished I could feel like you do about the bolded. But then I start thinkin about KC sittin in that cell reading Law Books and building a Lawyer image of herself in her shallow head and I just get kinda spooked at what kind of monster is being made from these law books. Can't wait til she has to go to the court room again so I can watch how she holds herself. She has slowly been changing with each time she is in court. Something that has never changed in KC is the thoughts of herself--->"all that and a bag of chips"---type of thang. Not that any of this changes the outcome of the trial but I don't look for a Plea. Sure hope I'm wrong about all this---I am tired of the circus but can't seem to back out of the tent.

LMAO------KC is a BAG OF CHIPS and JB is the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 OF THE WALK.

What blows my mind about this change of venue is that JB blames the media here in Orlando. JB, LKB, and the family are the ones who are going on National Television. JB himself even did a sit down interview w/ WESH, one of our local stations. They can't have it both ways!! What makes him think there could be a fair and impartial jury anywhere when they have saturated the local AND the National market? Just take yesterday, we had LKB on the Today Show...and JB holding a press conference in front of the Orange County Courthouse.

I am in total agreement with you and- a COV to Miami could backfire on the defense- it's not about a Hispanic attorney- JB is trying to drum something up there- Hispanic's are a very proud people and JB is not setting a good example. He is using a double standard. He's the only one saying anything about his being Hispanic, which no one else has made any comments about him being Hispanic, yet it's okay by him to allow his client to accuse a single Hispanic mother of such a hedious crime. Where's his outrage over that?
It's about accusing a hispanic of kidnapping and murdering a little child. Remember the Susan Smith case?
The Hispanic community may not want KC in South Florida.
JB- it's not about you- it's about justice for a little girl named Caylee- get off your ego trip.

Exactly. She didn't say some middle aged white guy took the baby, she named a Hispanic gal, if Baez thinks that is going to be lost on any Hispanic jurors, he is wrong. Again!

Who dictates or has final say about location for this trial if moved from Orlando?

Can't wait to see the SA reply to the COV request.

Don't quote me- but -- I understood it is the judge who makes the final discision, as to whether it will be moved or not, and where it should be moved to according to similar dempographics to Orlando. JB can request it be moved to Miami, but the judege has the final word. Hope this helps.
If anyone else has better info on this, please fill us in. Thanks:)

Perhaps THAT'S why the defense wanted the records of the volunteer searchers...to pick the venue with the least number of "involved" persons. Little do they know that those who couldn't actively search, could still be websleuthing and tuning into cable news.
