2010.03.30 Divers search St. Johns-LE seeks evidence for Volusia County investigation

  • #121
Maybe it was updated because he moved to Tallahassee?...

Could very well be just a routine update and/or address change. It caught my attention because of the photo's date being only a few days prior to this mysterious search of the St Johns. Wouldn't he have had to be fingerprinted and photographed in the presence of LE for the pic to be official?

He was discussed on the Possible Suspects thread around post #12. Also, in the same thread one poster mentions Palatka and Tallahassee as other locations associated with him even then, and someone pointed out that he was initially sleuthed on one of the very early general threads regarding Haleigh.

Guess we'll know soon enough if he's going to get his own thread. Hope GER and her camera are on site when they fish out whatever's supposed to be in the St John's.

Somehow I just can't picture Ron giving them a tip about where Haleigh's body is or might be, in exchange for a lighter sentence for drugs, when that information could bring about charges for possible murder and get him a heavier sentence. I know he may not be the brightest crayola in the box, but he's not that stupid.

This is not much, but I said I would post what I heard on the scanner.
On 31 March:
8:48 a.m. CST - Sgt 1133 is "10-8 (In Service) on the water"
12:45 p.m. CST - Sgt 1133: "S.71 (citizen assist) on River Marker #2 FL8755EH (boat ID?) 51 (enroute) to E. Palatka Boat ramp"
1:18 p.m. CST - Sgt 1133: 98b (98=assignment completed, B= ASSIST MOTORIST, HANDLE TRAFFIC PROBLEM, OR PROVIDE TRAFFIC CONTROL/ESCORT) reference s.71 (citizen assist) boat"
2:32 p.m. CST - Sgt 1133: 10-7 (out of service)

note: I logged off shortly there after (had appointment/commitment)

This guy has always been on my LIST!
He could have slipped in and out of that Mobile Home while Misty was "Passed Out!" He knew the area and the layout of the MH.

I sure hope LE has checked him out. IIRC He has a brother and sister that live in Palaka!

Well, this is a OMG moment. Thanks for the info, I had never heard anything about him before. Thanks again!

One must be carful of lumping all sex offenders into the same pile.

Does anyone know the age of the minor....keep in mind misty was a minor and rc could be sitting in the same seat.

In Ca, they give you an idea. If the child was under 14 or not...

If they don't actually say "under 14 yrs of age", then it was a teenager older thatn 14.

Not familiar with Florida format.

Not every sex offender will seek out a child the size of Haliegh. Misty..you betcha, but if takes a special monster to target tiny children...,

Could Ron plea deal on drug charges with info regarding Haleigh's disappearance?

Technically, I think he could, but I don't see that happening. I see it more so for Misty, if she wasn't the one to lay a hand on Haleigh. There could be reasons why Misty might cover for someone like her brother, out of family loyality (and I use that term loosely when it comes to this girl); or her ex-husband, out of love or fear, but what would be Ron's excuse?

I just don't see a prosecutor making any deals with RC, unless it's not to seek the death penalty for the location of the body. Ron wouldn't benefit by giving up this type of information at this point. Haleigh disappeared at his hand or he doesn't know anything.

::::Adding the usual disclaimer that this is only my opinion::::

Me thinks a crab trap :waitasec::twocents:

oh my..........so true........are crab traps weighted???
IMO, I was thinking like weighted Rubbermaid tote???
I guess because every one seems to have totes for
blankets and toys..........easy access.
Weighted with concete block like at back doorof MH???
Like the baby in Texas...........she finally floated up in her tote.........

Wasn't somebody in the crab industry in family? I thought I read where one of them was in it for twenty years.

We also have to keep in mind that LE confiscated the Jon Boat from rc's MH. It belonged to AS. Why would they take it? I am assuming they heard rc uses a jon boat....

I was discussing this scenerio with a knowledgable person today, he felt that a cinder block like the one @ the back door would work just fine to weigh down the cage with a small child. He said the crabs would work much better than an alligator as gators have plenty of their preference food to eat, there's no guarantee a gator wouild "eat" a person, and if a gator did find a small body, it would not consume all of it and would show up somewhere by now.. If a crab trap is found, there will be identifiable remains recovered (bones), crabs will eat everything in the trap except all of the bones. I know this is eerie ... but this whole dang case is eerie! One question he asked, "was the area being searched on the "other side" of the fishing pier?" He said some ppl use a clawlike thing to scoop up fishing rods or whatever they can recover by dragging the bottom of the riverbed, those ppl are out looking for recoverable items worth something, not fish. He said the clawlike thing would definitely latch on to a crab trap and it would be pulled up quite easily (until out of the water, then the weight would be a factor). He also said, it does NOT matter how murky the water is with sonar equipment (metal detectors). I hate even thinking about this ...

Maybe someone did find something suspicious out there and reported it to LE (using that clawlike thing)? If someone pulled the trap up and lost it due to its weight???
One other thing this guy told me, crab traps would NOT be placed in the middle of the river (in his opinion) they would be placed closer to the banks. In other words, it would not be common to find a trap in the area being searched. IDK anything about the crabbing business which is why I asked him.
He also felt that most people in this area are familiar with crab traps and how they work; whether they are in the business or not. I offer this as something to consider ...

I've been out crabbing and some people throw the traps from the pier, but we found we could catch more when we went into the middle of the river. Actually, it was the mouth of the river leading out to the ocean. We threw a trap in, putted over to another location and threw in another, putted to another location, etc. Then we would go back to the first one and pull it in really fast before the crabs crawled out.

Yep Whisp--it was GGS said she knew the river like the back of her hand and had crabbed for many years.

I didn't think about it when I posted, but crabbing where I live could be MUCH different than in Florida. We don't have any gators!

I have never posted a you tube link - let's see if this works. This is from a guy from Welaka, FL and his opinion about the use of a crab trap. I believe I first saw this posted by another WS poster on one of these HaLeigh threads ... there are so many I don't remember which one, and I thank the original poster for sharing this with us.

I'm lost...Again! What's going on with the crab trap theory? Where did the crab trap story come from? Please enlighten me.

ETA: I just watched this video and all I can say is "WOW". I'm going to watch it again but I wonder what he is getting at about the bond for Misty? She had warrants and shouldn't have had a bond at all? But she does, so what does that mean? I'm confused as ever.

I edited my post regarding this Welaka guy. I saw this awhile ago and it stuck in my mind as a "possible" explanation as to why HC has not been found. Could this be what LE is really searching for a "crab trap" @ the Memorial Bridge. Now learning about who has "so much experience in crabbing" (post above) I think we should consider this possiblity.

Note: This local posted this right when the players were first arrested for the drug trafficing charges. Regarding his confusion about the records, the ones that were moved (RC, MC, TC & DB) originally showed up in the Putnam County jail bookings, then they quickly were removed from the booking log. We later learned this was because they were transferred to other facilities.
