2010.04.20 - Funeral plans?

  • #61
IMO this is going to be a tricky case to try, particularly if they have limited or no remains to work with. In the absence of a body and/or murder weapon, LE has to build what is essentially a circumstantial case against their suspect.

While not impossible, such a case will hinge on one piece of circumstantial evidence neatly stacked atop the next and so on and so on and so forth til there is a virtual insurmountable pile of circumstantial evidence against the murderer.

These types of cases must be built with painstaking attention to detail and lots of good old fashioned footwork. I, for one, am very happy that LE is keeping mum about what they do and do not have.

This tells me they have their eye on the prize - prison for the perp.

didn't AH say that she was over heard talking on her phone to a friend, or did I dream that??? The clips that I saw of her leaving LE that day, she was being consoled by MG...I did not see a phone stuck on her ear.....I could be way off here, but I think I heard him say something about a phone, no?? anyone?

Nope, I never saw her on the phone either.

Because when he's believable, he has clips, or quotes directly, it can be verified through other, independent reports, etc etc etc.

I don't feel that way at all. I feel his most outlandish claims have no backing at all. Didn't the 90 phone calls come from him? I've seen no backing on that.

That's what I heard him say also . I never saw her on the phone .

still waiting on the other 911 call....has it been posted yet?

That's why I've prefaced what I said with "When he's believable...."

I know there is a lot of anger within both families. Can't blame them. Both sides of the family have been involved in drugs, et al. However, in memory of little Haleigh I pray that these people can come together and have this funeral in a respectful and peaceful way. I'm sure it is going to be very, very difficult. It really doesn't matter who plans the funeral or the minutiae that is involved. It's all about Haleigh.

Love and peace for all those involved.

AH broke the news Sunday night that Crystal had her kids' DNA put aside in case it was ever needed. It sounds like Crystal may have been asked to release it, which points to a good chance that they have found something.

LE have had Haleigh's DNA sample since she first went missing. Nowadays it is common for to be taken at the hospital with the birth of the child. My adult son had no such packet come home from the hospital, but my two minor children did.

When that is not the case, local LE agencies often host "safety" days or events during which parents can have DNA taken simply to have, in case of an abduction, whatever the case may be.

When Haleigh first went missing it was reported that bio mom had provided LE with that packet, containing Haleigh's DNA.

Perhaps I listened to an updated video or read an updated link, but what I hear being said is "the family" are planning a funeral. Did I miss something? Why is it being said that Crystal is planning the funeral? I can tell you this, if Crystal is planning a funeral, she is discussing the aspects of it with Ronald. Not a doubt in my mind. But, having said that, the media does not have a good track record when it comes to reporting the facts in Haleigh's case. I don't believe a thing anymore unless it comes directly from the family or LE....and even then.....well the proof is in the pudding. JMO

"Family" is an all encompassing word.

tlcox - well, on Sunday night AH said "I'm breaking the news here" on Watt's show, about the DNA.

AH and NG "break" a lot of news. I clearly recall when Haleigh first went missing, within the first few weeks or months, it was announced that LE had DNA for comparison in the form of one of those "packets" that come home from the hospital or LE agency safety event.

If I remember correctly the question came up because of something on NG show of all places. NG made some point about even if someone had killed Haleigh and a body was found it would take a while to be identified using DNA if body were out in the elements. I believe LE confirmed at that time they had such a packet already that was provided by bio mom and that such a sample would cut down on the identification time as they would already have it and not need to obtain a profile from hair, etc. (ie. Caylee Anthony hairbrush incident)

I hope the media is not permitted anywhere near this funeral, this family or their friends. At least this one time there should be some respect and not a media frenzy.

I kind of wonder if the "planning a funeral" statement could have been one made by some investigator or another and then overheard and repeated by someone when it shouldn't have been. Maybe evidence of a murder- but not a body- was found and LE knew it was getting close or was right on top of a conviction and someone made the comment that the family could start planning a funeral soon, and someone else took it and ran with it. Hasn't the comment been credited to a few different sources at this point?

Hardy "confirmation" regarding NO human remains found from PDN article today.

"A three-day search encompassed portions of the St. Johns River off the Shell Harbour boat ramp in Satsuma last week, prompting a flock of national media attention. Several items were pulled from the area and have been sent to labs for individual analysis. It is unknown whether the items are related to Haleigh's disappearance, however Hardy confirmed that no human remains were found. ... Hardy stated last week that he believes "it is a matter of time" before the case is solved. "I think that's true," Bowling said. "We are working diligently toward it. We are going to keep investigating it diligently. I also think it is a matter of time." ..."

Dugger has supported Haleigh's family during the last year, while investigators searched for the little girl. Now she's helping them as they begin to plan Haleigh's funeral.

Ann Dugger and the Justice Coalition has been around for quite awhile.

Here is Ann at the 1 year vigil that was held in Satsuma:

And there was an event held earlier this year that Marie attended - a breakfast held by the Justice Coalition with Sarah Sheffield and the family of Somer Thompson:

You can read about the event here:

I don't believe that Ann Dugger would speak out of turn about a funeral for HaLeigh if this was not true. :(

My hope is that the families can come together for HaLeigh and give her a beautiful service that will honor the BEAUTIFUL child she was (past tense is hard to use), and that they will work together. I have no doubt that HaLeigh wouldn't want her family to argue.

I haven't agreed with NG on many things regarding this case, but when she made the statement that you can't have a funeral with two cinder blocks and a piece of rope, I was ready to jump up outta my chair and cheer! Maybe they don't have a body, but they have to have something besides Misty's word on this. Did somebody confess? With no body or confession, there should be no talk of a funeral.

I'm thinking that still doesn't preclude small bones or fragments sent to the lab for DNA testing after an anthropologist confirmed that they were possibly human though, KWIM?

I KWIM, but then again, I try not to think that hard. I added to my post. The quotes about "it's just a matter of time" from Bowling & Hardy are also rather non-committal.

All I'm getting from all of this is that the case has officially moved to homicide classification because SOMEONE (or several someones) has/have offered that they witnessed that Haleigh was dead.

After that, it's like asking Dorothy's scarecrow which yellow-brick path to take.

I would like to know who exactly it was that initially told someone to plan a funeral because I want to know who else it is that we cannot depend on anything they have to say.
