Is it?.. is that the OD Theory mentioned tonight? Now, I could believe that they had medicated HaLeigh with benedryl, although I don't know how much it would take to kill a child . I thought they were talking about prescription meds...

If 1 Tbs (15ml) killed an 11 lb child, then one could assume that around
3.4 Tbs could kill a 37 lb child such as Haleigh.

rc is the one responsible for stonewalling this case for so long. He covered for misty at every corner. He marries her and keeps her holed up at Granny's house denying LE to question either of them. If not for this LE may have been further along in this investigation.

My question though Whisperer, is would they 'waste' that on putting HaLeigh to sleep? That's what I don't believe..addicts NEVER have too much..

Unless, it was a one time deal and they didn't intend for her to wake up...and I don't see that either...

Hmm..that's not a whole lot either..TY for finding that..I could easily believe that was what was done..something to ponder..I wonder if any family member had ever known R or M to do that?.

It's just the prescription drugs that I wonder about...not even saying that would be impossible, just unlikely and an accidental ingestion at HaLeighs age would surprise me...jmho..

Scandi (Hi Sweetie) I think you have a point there. If true then Haleigh passed pretty early as it takes a while for the scent of decomp to reach a detectable level for the dogs. A research study I read, and have posted here before demonstrated that most cadaver dogs can detect decomp scent at levels reached within 1.5 to 2 hours after death but not much sooner than that. That dumpster has bothered me since the information was revealed about the dogs, three of them hitting on the dumpster. If so, my brain says whoever must have wrapped her in something belonging to someone other than Haleigh or used a container as the tracking dogs did not enter the area where that dumpster was.

Maybe they threw blankets in that dumpster. If they wrapped her in a blanket and didn't want to throw it in the water because it could float, so they tossed it in the dumpster? When did they search the dumpster?

Thinking Haleigh died of an overdose is the nicest way we can think of her leaving this world. We all want to go in this direction because it comforts us. I hope you are all correct. I don't want to go anywhere else...this is bad enough. We can take comfort that many people cared about Haleigh and she will be remembered.

Her family's actions could now be the death of her (blood pressure). So sad.

The stats show 9000 toddlers and young children accidentally ingesting prescription meds in 2003-2006, and those are just the ones that went to emergency rooms and were identified as such. I don't find it an unlikely scenario at all. Just my opinion.

Adding this: Each year in the United States, more than 71,000 children aged 18 and younger are seen in emergency rooms for unintentional overdoses of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. More than 80 percent of these overdoses are due to unsupervised ingestion.

I would have to look it up, as its beena few years, but I think it is exceptionally hard to OD even a child on benadryl. The LD50 works out to such a high dossage that you would essentially have to pour better than an entire bottle of the adult pills into a child. something that would not happen easily. Benadryl may make the child sick, or cause weirdness, but it typically will not kill.

I highly follow the Occams Razor school of thought on this. We know those around her were heavy Oxycontin users. We know that those immediately around her were heavy Oxycontin dealers. Oxycontin was physically present and the go to pharmaceutical of choice around her. 1 Oxycontin pill would absolutely kill a 4 year old. No question. It's just too direct a mechanism to be lightly discounted. We don't need to look to hard at Benadryl or grandmas Blood Preasure pills. We know everyone around her had baggies of Oxy. We know Oxy would be one of the most directly fatal meds for a child of her age and weight.

Further if she died because of something over the counter or something taken from Grandma then we probably would have gotten a clear story much much sooner than this. At the very least they would have called 911 with a sick child. But is what she took was Oxy, the same highly illegal Oxy that Ron and Misty were dealing. well yeah, there is the underlying reason to throw a childs body in the river and come up with the whole host of bs abduction stories.

If it was an OD, then you'd have to think of a time of death. Grandma Sykes said she left when? Between 7:30 and 8:00 pm? And Haleigh was alive then. Ok, I believe that. Have to start somewhere. So whatever was given to her was after that time. And it wouldn't work immediately. If it was a prescription drug, I am wondering if that would be faster than something like Benadryl or NyQuil. For some reason I think it would. I just don't know how long either would take to work.

I'm ok with not knowing that though.

One thing about the prescription drugs though- I can't help but wonder if a potent narcotic would just end up making her sick enough to throw most of it back up. Most of the ones I've taken make me nauseous. And I've never taken the really strong stuff.

OT, ((hugs)) krowdkat, I know what that's like. Be thankful in some regards that your loved one is locked up, if that's what it takes to keep them away, ya know? I wish that my loved one was behind bars today..don't get me wrong HE was the addict..but sadly, he also had a wealthy grandmother that didn't believe he had a problem and thought everyone had ulterior motives for begging her not to give him money..He OD'd in his car, by himself, using the drugs that she paid for..:furious:..not that he probably wouldn't have found the money somehow at that point anyway..but she damn sure didn't have to serve it up to him on a silver platter....

It IS totally devastating to everyone in their life and addiction doesn't discriminate based on age, wealth, education or anything else..some things just allow it to be hidden easier....for a while anyway..

Thank you for your comforting words. It truly means more to me than you can imagine.

Reading as fast as I can and trying to catch up. First of all, my prayers go out to Granny Hollars. Poor dear. It's no surprise the stress has taken a toll on her body. It has me pulling my hair out, but these are her grandchildren we're talking about. Keep the faith, Flo.

Unfortunately, I've known a few addicts and cleaned up after one committed suicide. Pills were stashed all over the house in the oddest places. Pill junkies suffer separation anxiety if their drugs are not within reach. Then they get sloppy and forget where they've stashed them. That is, if the drug of choice is relatively easy to come by. If not, then I agree that there is never a reserve supply.

That's been my experience too, with a second cousin and oxys & vicodin. She had them in the cup holders of her car, bathroom sink, kitchen counter...

Another consideration is that Haleigh's weak respiratory condition could make even a half of one fatal, and I can easily see her being given that to get her out of Misty's hair.

I have no clue at all what actually happened, but since it's the gentlest explanation I can think of, until I'm forced to let it go, I'm sticking with the small hope that that was it.
