2010.07.15 What I saw at the Hearing

What was up with that boss of Cindy's? She was weird on the stand. Was anything said about her being so late? The judge seemed really annoyed when he found out she wasn't there on time.
At least she dressed appropriately.

I really liked that Cindy's boss - Debbie P. did NOT allow Mason to force her to say that GEORGE told Cindy about the "dead body smell", which Mason was trying very hard to get her to say. She said - NO! they BOTH said it smelled like a dead body. She was totally taken aback by where Mason was trying to lead her testimony. IMO

Now there's an interesting idea!
It would be karma if Lee's "I LOVE YOU" to his sister was SARCASTIC in intent!
A sarcastic jab at his sister for what she accused him of.
Who knows with these weirdos!

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of Lee truly trying to 'reach out' (haha - remember that?) to her in earnest and she not feeling the same toward him.

But your idea is interesting as well!

It amazes me that anyone would be admitted into a court room with electronic devices period. In my neck of the woods, even if you are reporting for jury duty, you have to go through a metal detector, and surrender cell phones, ipods, etc. I sure like the Sunshine Law, but maybe Florida has a long way to go regarding restriction of communication devices in the court room.

Who is to say that someone can't eavesdrop on the judges chamber, or even get details of sidebar convos with proper equipment? Wouldn't that make a huge mess during the trial!

Yup - So much you can do with a smart phone now and all the apps you can have. You can even record a conversation. What would have prevented one of the attorney's from speed dialing Lee's cell and allowing him to listen to Cindy's testimony over their cell phone?

Wow-nothing surprises me about these people. Didn't Casey accuse Lee of molesting her? But I love you's were shared during court. Weird!~

That moment just proved to me that the molestation story was just a means to get Casey off the death penalty and has no basis whatsoever in fact, and that Lee knows this and thinks 'hey whatever you have to do to stay alive sis'.

If they try and use this as a mitigator I'll be surprised at this stage, I think they know it wont be credible.

There are about 50 seats available in the courtroom and more in the balcony. The 1st to be let in were the attorneys, their clients, and the reporters. The reporters with electronics were ushered to the balcony. Today was the first time in over a year that there were no empty seats in the courtroom. I arrived early and saw GA,CA and her BFF, her husband and BC arrive and mull around until the doors opened for the attorneys/clients to enter. After I was seated LA and Mallory arrived. LA was wearing jeans and black polo shirt with his silver bracelet threaded with that much talked about broken black bracelet. Mallory was wearing short shorts!! The family took up a whole row of seats along with CA's BFF and her husband. CA and GA switched seats before the hearing began so CA could chat with BC. After CA testified she sat on the other side of GA. It was interesting that BC would talk to CA, BC would text and then JB and KC would receive a text which they read together, then CA and BC would receive a text. During CA's testimony JB moved his chair between his desk and LDB's desk (in the aisle) so he could see CA. BC would text or scroll on his Iphone during her testimony. Lee was asked to go out in the hallway during his mom's testimony. After most of her testimony, Mallory joined him. Cindy could stay and hear his testimony when it was his turn.
Lee did have an attorney with him who left when he left and came back when he returned. After Lee testified, he did not sit back down. Mallory met him near George's seat and they hurriedly left together.
Nejame was all ready to start the hearings and asked if he could sit at LDB's desk. He had the google map on a hardboard and was ready to begin when Baez/Cheney asked for a sidebar and dropped their motion. Nejame left right away after that. Cheney looked like a bird who swallowed a canary - smug & grinning & rocking.
JA came in quite late while LDB was up at the podium.
I was very surprised that CA did not have an attitude today. She did misremember some facts of which LDB reminded her, but no ugly faces. I couldn't believe CA said she still believes Caylee is alive. She did wear a 1" x 1" photograph of Caylee on a necklace today. She, GA and her BFF wore those white/purple wristbands, but Lee did not wear one.

During the first recess, Bill Shaeffer came in, hugged and laughed around with Cheney and said "I take it all back" (do they both hate Nejame?)

BBM

Mallory listening to Cindy on the stand, then going out to tell Lee what she said... doesn't this defeat the purpose of sending him out of the room?

wow, thank you for sharing your observations with us

I cannot believe that people are allowed to text each other

and I cannot believe that a witness would wear short-shorts to an important hearing

I thought long and hard about posting my feelings, but you will either agree or disagree with me, and that is ok.

I was at the hearing. Afterwards my friend and I were about 20 feet ahead of George and Cindy as they headed towards the parking garage surrounded by a horde of cameras and reporters. As I got in my car, I noticed George, Cindy and another couple come out of the elevators into the parking garage. They stopped and the other woman hugged Cindy who was obviously crying. Both George and Cindy looked worn, weary and defeated.

As to Cindy's statement that she believes Caylee is still alive. You could hear the collective intake of breath in the courtroom when she made that statment. Does she really believe it or is it just a futile attempt by a grandmother to deny the reality of the death of her grandchild? I don't know, but the thought of Cindy spending the rest of her life looking into the eyes of every brown haired, hazel eyed child/girl/young woman she sees(depending how how old Caylee would have been at the time) and wondering 'could you be my granddaughter Caylee'? is just heartbreaking to me. If she does believe what she said, she is creating a H*ll for herself that she will never be able to break free of. I know what she has and hasn't done, has and hasn't said and I understand why people are angry with her. The devastated woman I saw in the parking garage this afternoon has my compassion. Because regardless of anything else, she lost her granddaughter whom she loved.

I agree - also saw NO interaction between father and son .... NONE!

Ditto. The family dynamic, the body language, the letters, everything is pointing to (IMO) they think George betrayed KC, family, etc., because he was (I'm guessing) honest at Grand Jury testamony.

I also noticed after Casey's emotional outburst upon first seeing Lee that she was furiously scribbling on her pad and passing notes to CM & JB. Wouldn't it be something if Casey is claiming to her 'boys' that Lee is creepy and she is afraid of him for molesting her, hence, her emotional outburst? It would make his "I love you" seem especially sinister if so. He better watch out that he doesn't get thrown under the bus!

I thought about that too... I wondered who was being thrown under bus. I always assumed it was George, but yes, Lee could be as well. After redirect today when Cindy was on stand, I was thinking huh... maybe Cindy...

Regarding that furious note writing - ICA was livid at one point when Lee was testifying. I don't think she likes hearing the sordid story recited in court.

jmo

Nope, she doesn't like it as she thinks it's WRONG (according to her mind). I saw the note writing, I saw the hand gestures, I saw her speaking feverishly with Mason. My guess? She's covering lies with more lies, and to ME it didn't look like her attorney, Mason at least, was really caring or listening. The girl chat recess? Prolly about Fusion and hot body contests....

Who knows with these weirdos!

I quite read it as fake, as I think Lee's fake. I dunno about the deeper intent, but I did read it as "fake." It WOULD be something if he'd pull a 180 but I'm not holding my breath. Even Cindy had my sympathy today until she pulled the "I think Caylee is still alive," and paused, made a face, knowing the audacity of her statement there. pft.

I agree with you.... I really do. She let her emotions take over, unfortunately under oath. I cried today, as I finally got to see Cindy honest about what happened, and I believe her of that evening. (Lee is a different story for me but... lol) I cried because I put myself in her shoes, having to relive this nightmare event in her life on an anniversay of sorts. I cried because of my time, our time, and our energy, others energy (countless others...) put into finding Caylee, then finding her, and then having the Anthony coverup progress. I get why they do it. My mom would NEVER do that for me. lol I did see today an anguished Cindy, but I also saw a somewhat delusional and defiant Cindy. I didn't hear the audible gasp in the room, but I could imagine it being there, based on her facial expression. No hate from me, Mac.

mkay... it's the gibby thread right now so I'll back out and come back. LOL

BBM Thank you for posting this, Macushla. That is precisely what I did at home in front of my PC as I heard Cindy say that. You've confirmed my exact reaction and gut feeling. Thank you!

so we had at least 5 WS'ers at the hearing today
thanks ya'll for being there for Caylee and for giving us your insights

:blowkiss:

Thank you.

I, too, "know what she has and hasn't done" and today, I think she did the best she could.

during the girl chat recess, I saw Casey write something on a white piece of paper and the one young lady took it, turned it over and placed iton top of the notebook she was holding....I tried to watch where she went with it, but then the link I was watching just cut off......anyone else see this?

many thanks to those who attended today, and shared......

I'm sure State of Florida has great techies, and has a good handle on perimeter security. But "what if" someone brought in their laptop into the court and there was another unsecured wireless network in proximity to the court building?

Might be grounds for a mistrial????
