Judge Perry to Jose Baez in status hearing,
"I chose to be a judge, not a legislator. It is not my job to make or change the laws or rules." You are knocking on the wrong door, Mr. Baez (my paraphrase).

Mr. Hornsby explained, in March,
RH " Jose Baez cannot have all these high priced experts on this case. He can not travel incessantly , he cannot over bill. If she is declared indigent experts will have a limited amount of hours they can work ,they must prepare line item invoices and their pay will be maxed at $150.00 per hour.
They fight you tooth and nail on every cost!! You spend more time billing than working on the case. I know of lawyers that will refuse to take a case like this because of it."

RH " I would never have taken the case without being paid up front. I would have hired Florida lawyers. I would never have brought in anyone from out of town. I would have opened up a trust account and hired another lawyer to manage the money,so I wouldn't have to worry about being disbarred. Indigency should have been declared a long, long time ago. I would have done it a year ago!"

RH "The Affidavit he drafted about Casey paying him 88K , and that is intellectually dishonest. We all know Casey Anthony did not write him a check for 88K! She doesn't have a bank account. She never had that money. She doesn't work. The judge may make him divulge every detail, who the third party or parties are."

The judge let them know once already in a hearing that he would not be suffering fools lightly.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The state agency responsible for distributing funds for indigent clients like Casey Anthony is fighting how high the cost of the case could go after the addition of a new defense lawyer.

Anthony’s new death penalty expert, Anne Finnell, has filed paperwork informing Judge Belvin Perry that her expenses in preparing for a possible penalty phase in the case could cost taxpayers $20,000 or more.

Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby, who is not affiliated with the Anthony case, said penalty phase costs are unavoidable.
“The defense has to incur all those costs before the case goes to trial,” he said.
Finnell estimates an expert psychiatric witness could cost $7,500, but lawyers for the Justice Administrative Commission said the cost should be far less.
“While an indigent has a due process right to the assistance of experts in his or her defense, that right is not unfettered,” the filing read.

Finnell also estimated her travel costs to be $4,000, but the commission said those costs should come out of the $89,000 fee that Jose Baez has already collected from Anthony.

"The state should not bear the responsibility to cover travel expenses for a privately retained attorney who chooses to use the services of yet another attorney,” the commission said.

“If they're unwilling to pay their own costs, they're going to have to withdraw, or Jose Baez is going to have to pay for it out of his own pocket. It's fair and that's the way it works,
” said Hornsby.

They should bring Casey in dressed in the traditional prisoner costume with black and white stripes, the little hat and a ball and chain around one of her ankles. Or they could always parade her around as the virgin Mary then Jose could play dress up too and go as a literal 🤬🤬🤬 :truce:

Casey deserves Halloween too yanno.:snooty:

I find it interesting that she can pick and choose certain hearings she'll attend.

I find it fasinating that jb is asking for $150.00 per night hotels!

Why should the experts get to stay at $150/night hotels??? I sure can't afford that. We're lucky to stay at $50/night motels when we travel, or we stay with family or friends, or camp. Maybe they can try Priceline!
I think JB should open up his house to his fellow dream team members. He can charge them 50$ a night and perhaps even pay his mortgage in the process. Or, they can stay in KC's bedroom and help the A's pay theirs.

While you bright lights are hanging around discussing motions, their pros and cons and what face HHJP will be wearing - I guess the really important stuff is left for me to fret about!

Things like - I wonder what ICA will be wearing this time? Hair down or up? Will Cindy be there? GasCan George? Will they be wearing matching colors or will George stick to purple.

Will CA be throwing kisses to ICA? Will ICA even glance in CA's direction?

Oh me oh my - so much to worry about!

NOT!

I find it interesting that she can pick and choose certain hearings she'll attend.

I find it fasinating that jb is asking for $150.00 per night hotels!

The only reason ICA is to be in attendance at this "status" hearing is due to motions on the calendar.

They will be discussing some money (JAC is questioning if ICA is still indigent), jail/visits/commissary they want to get away from the public. Now we see the media (Orlando Sentinal for sure!) is also going to argue Baez' motions for privacy....What ICA fails to realize, for I believe it is she who wants her jail life to be private, there is no privacy in jail! What part of that does she not grasp...JMHO

BBM
And Baez keeps knocking on the wrong door and needs to be Constantly reminded..
The Florida State Constitution declares that the powers of state government be divided into three separate and relatively independent branches -

* executive,
* legislative, and
* judicial.

Each branch is sovereign in its own area of responsibility, but it is also influenced by the checks and balances from the other branches.

I looked up the federal gov't per diem hotel rates for Orlando...based on averages in the specific area. These are the new rates effective 10/1/10. They can change monthly, adjusted for seasonal rates.

Here they are for Orlando, starting with this month (10/10) on the left and going forward:

Orlando Orange County 90 90 90 104 104 104 104 104 90 90 90 90

So, $90/night off-season and a high of $104 during Orlando's busy season. Realize these are very good hotels, and their commercial rates shouldn't be much more than the fed gov't per diem rates.

So, IMO, $150/night is not necessary. JB, don't ask for the sun and the moon. You wonder why people :banghead:

I'm going to miss this appearance so hope to hear some of the great play by play (or should that be blow by blow?) accounts from you Websleuthers.

Actually, I've missed the last few appearances by choice as I cannot stand to see the smirking, the blaming and all those things I don't want to see in a court of law.

Baez appears to be having great difficulty comprehending or accepting the JAC guidelines for reimbursement for travel expenses. :waitasec: The JAC guidelines are in black and while, with no color coding. :laughbig:

Well, *there's* your problem! Toss in a bit of magenta, some puce, and vwah la! maybe Jose will get it.

Or not.

Most likely not.

There are times Baez has problems understanding "no" or anything else he is told....It is almost like a child pushing and pushing--except in this case HHJP is the "pushover" that jb wants.....

WFTV will upload the raw video as soon as the hearing ends, it sometimes takes a few hours, I'm sure the links will be posted in the media & news threads as soon when available.

nums,
Thanks for the reply, but even after WFTV posts the hearing after the fact, it's still in a streaming like format. I would have to watch it on youtube, where you can pause and let it load, then watch it.

Gawrsh, I feel like I'm on dial-up all over again!
