If I had to guess, I would say a little of both.

I don't know how above board the people involved are, but my guess is that the numbers don't add up and his Honor suspects they don't add up.

For example it's highly possible that JB and company DO have all the misc administrative investigative work done by a paralegal or legal assistant but know they can't charge the JAC for that work. So they have an investigator (who's not entirely honest) bill for that extra "work" that he claims he does. Then the JAC cuts a check and $$ changes from a few hands.

Personally, JB doesn't seem above board, and in any way shape or form. So I'm of the opinion that the costs submitted to the JAC are not correct and have been padded in some shape or form. But again, I have no proof of that. Just entirely speculation encouraged by JB's often sneaky ways.
Any , ANY man that does not pay his proper child support I do NOT like, trust or respect. If he is not diligent about providing for his own child....well Casey Anthony's trust account or billing to the JAC certainly would not be a high moral piority, if I had my guess. The best way, indeed the very best way to predict someone's future behavior, is to examine their past behavior.

This is the team that came to the hearing without their file to go over figures, as they want their client to be declared indigent for cost. Let that be your guide.

I missed the hearing yesterday while at work and having 3 kids and now being a single mom I don't have a lot of time. I have two things:

1. THANK YOU Chiquita for starting the thread! It's helped me a lot without having to go through thousands of posts.

2. Does anyone know how long the hearing was? I'd like to try to watch it after the munchkins are in bed but I still have 2 hrs worth of work I need to do here at home and I don't want to get into it if it's too long. I can't start my work or anything until after 8pm so...

Thanks again Chiquita and everyone who contributed this far!

I rewatched the hearing last night. It was clear there that CM quite obviously knew exactly who Mr. Jackson was and what he was. Apparently he does this sort of thing for a lot of cases in that courthouse and is well known for it. So yes he was a known in joke between HHJP, CM and the SA's. Apparently JB was not as familiar as he seemed confused by the whole thing, and his face fell when CM said that no he did not care what Mr. Jackson had to say.

I got the opposite impression. I think CM knew nothing about Mr. Jackson or his claims to know the real killer, but JB did know about it. Isn't Curtis Jackson the one from a Michigan prison? Does he really write letters to the Orange County court on different cases?

I think JB was wanting CM to hush what he was saying about them not being interested at all. The way JB was kind of standing there next to the table like he was wanting to interrupt CM but didn't know how. MOO

BBM.

JB didn't appreciate the joke, I guess. ICA shook her head, when first hearing the Judge mention this inmate's offer, then it seemed to occur to her that she's an "inmate" too.

I did too. I got the distinct impression Mason didn't have a clue. But that was just based off his body language.

Question: I was under the impression that the trial was to be held there in Orange County with the jurors selected from another county and brought to Orange County for the trial. The jurors would be sequestered at local hotels for the duration of the trial.

Yesterday JBP stated that there would be a gag order in place once the trial location was revealed and attorneys would be registering at hotels under assumed names. I take that to mean that they're now planning on moving the trial out of Orange County, as there would be no reason for the attorneys to be registering at hotels if it were to remain locally.

I must have missed something..........when was it decided to hold the trial elsewhere?

HI there. He means when they go pick the jury. Once they have the jury and alternates, then those folks get brought in to OC

snipped for space

I also didn't mean to imply in my post that I think all attys aren't above board. Quite the opposite some of the most honorable men/women I know are right down the hall from me and on floors above me and below me. When attys take their job and their responsibility to be an officer of the Court seriously you will find them to be some of the most honorable people. I however, no matter how much I was paid would not work with the caliber of counsel that JB and company are- I'd rather eat shards of glass.

About the Curtis J thing. I know this guy is full of it, but from the perspective of someone watching who had never seen anything about this case, you have a defendant claiming innocence to murdering her child, you have no one else you can point fingers at, though you want to go after TES volunteers, RK, JG, RG, ANYONE save your client, and here lands in your lap an inmate with what would appear to be your reasonable doubt card. What do you do?
If you want people to believe you have no clue who did this horrible act, you don't laugh this CJ off with a royal wave of your hand, announcing he is a liar.
I just found that to be the oddest reaction...

I agree! I was surprised at the defense reaction, laughing this off and dismissing Curtis Jackson out-of-hand as some sort of "crawling out of the woodwork crazy." They could have at least sounded like this was a key development. Even Casey was smiling and shaking her head "no." Too bad the cameras didn't capture Cindy's expression. I can just see her getting excited and nodding "yes........they've found Zanny!"

That's not necessarily true. I live about an hour outside of LA (even that's not far enough for me honestly) but I have many trials that take place in downtown LA. When we go for trial we pack everything up about 2 weeks before and rent a block of space for us to stay at a hotel that is very close to the LA Courthouse.

We typically rent rooms for all team members (including IT, attys, paralegals, witnesses, and the client if necessary). And then a separate war room. Which can be just one room or several and then one separate room for witness prep'ing.

Media can and DOES scout out where trial teams stay. Although even with assumed names it will be easy to locate where they are staying because generally not many hotels cater to litigation needs.

Added: Just to let you know even if all the team lives close to the Courthouse they won't be going home every night. The work DOESN'T end when the Court goes dark for the night. The work keeps going the ENTIRE night. Every day when they leave there is a LITANY of things that need to be done to prepare for the next day. Trust me I know. In one day I worked 19 hours straight. YES 19 hours to prepare for trial. Trial is rough and is NOT for the faint of heart.

Cindy probably wrote a letter to the inmate as soon as court was over yesterday. Her new "BFF".

I think "ages ago" LOL - yes, I know that isn't helpful. But remember back when Baez was bleating on and on about her not getting a fair trial because of the constant media coverage (which he primarily instigated) and he was pushing for the trial to be held in Miami because he had alternate plans for the jury - he wanted a Spanish speaking jury because he thought they would be more sympathetic to him and to ICA. Clearly he'd forgotten about Zenaida Gonzales and her treatment. Anyhow, HHJP agreed to move jury selection out of Orlando, and said he would chose a place and no one would know where until after jury selection. However, I think HHJP has left open the option to hold the actual trial here, just truck in the jurists.

Oh for heaven's sakes would someone who knows the exact answer please respond. (Me - :loser:)

Thanks! So the attorneys, judge, defendant, and court staff will be going to another county for the purpose of selection of jury and alternates. Then, when the trial starts, the jurors and alternates are brought to Orange County and sequestered. That makes sense!

I was concerned thinking that if the trial had been moved, the expenses involved in having to provide accommodations, travel expenses, food, etc. for everyone involved would be astronomical!

Quite right and HHJP mentioned that.

Wow..............I didn't know that! But, knowing Los Angeles traffic and freeways I can see the need. You'd be wasting a lot of time just sitting on a freeway in traffic. I can imagine the lights will be burning long into the night at the Baez law firm offices.

Out of curiosity.........you mentioned you live about an hour outside of LA. I also live about an hour outside of LA (an hour if the freeway isn't jammed up). I'm northwest of LA. Are you east, south, north, or northwest?

I'm in the OC area. And yes you're right if you wan to get to the LA Courthouse during the week you need to leave insanely early.

And JB and company BETTER damn well be burning the night light between now and May. Or they're going to be up a creek without a paddle.

I'm in Ventura County, and know well the freeway situation. My husband (now retired) was a firefighter in Los Angeles and had to leave for work two hours ahead of when he had to be at work (8:00am) just to avoid sitting in traffic.

I can't see JB voluntarily working into the wee hours of the morning, but I think JBP is going to put the pressure on to get what needs to get done and meet the deadlines. So JB will be working overtime to catch up on what he should have been doing the past two plus years.

I hate LA (with a passion) for the exact reason you outlined above. I despise traffic.

I'm not certain JB and company can catch up at this point. There's too much that should have been done all along and there is much to be doing now and in the future. I'm not sure he can keep up on the back log work and what needs to be done in the future.

So much needs to be done. So much. And I SHIVER to think what his jury instruction submissions will be. Not sure if FL does it the same way CA does but both sides present all jury instructions they want. Then they compare and have agreed upon jury instructions and anything they disagree on the bring before the judge and he/she decides.

I can foresee a big hot mess coming.

I hate to quote myself but does anyone at least have a "guess-timate"?

Thanks! :blowkiss:
