2011.01.24: Hearing Will Address Request For Investigative Hours

BBM and ITA. I guess what really bothers me is that he knows they aren't doing correct bookkeeping or billing, and those depos with the latest TES fishing prospects show that they are wasting money here. I know he has to do what he has to do to avoid appeal issues down the road, but it just seems like a parent caving in time and time again to a spoiled child that whines and doesn't deserve it. It seems unfair and a waste of the courts time. I wish appeals didn't have such an affect on trials like this. And I do hope that the JAC sues afterward for every penny wasted back. This isn't defending Casey, it's a mockery of the whole justice system and that doesn't sit well with me.

But, HHJP knows what he's doing, and in the end, Casey and her defense are going to lose big time. I just have to keep saying that myself, lol.

I share your frustration, I too thought he would have got out his fine toothed before granting additional hours. But imo there is nothing stopping J Perry auditing the records at some point in the future. If there is a case to answer those civil lawyers can get stuck in. Right now, I think Perry is trying to make sure this trial starts May 9th.

Habs tickets are equivalent to gold :) (GO HABS GO)
~~~ I only get to see them play live if I drive to ottawa~~
I could feed all of montreal poutine and michigans with the amount of money spent on this case.
:D
Poutine at a casse croute would be great just about now..
Funny thing about getting money from the government. They can audit the records and demand it back pretty much any time. In the name of a fair and expeditious trial HHJP approved these expenses for today. These are meerly increases to the defense budget for investigations. All proper record keeping, invoicing and paperwork must still be followed. And may be dealt with by the JAC at their leisure. HHJP does not want financial squabbles muddying things before trial, when the JAC can just as easily slam them all for shoddy records afterwards, when it wont have any impact on the defendants "right to a fair trial". (and yes it will mean that KC has once again managed to scam someone else either the taxpayers or her own defense team out of paying for her messes).
Thank you, Faefrost! You make perfect sense and I needed to hear it this way! May needs to get here faster!
Thank you for all your updates today. I do believe in CJPerry and I am a Florida tax payer. As long as she is in jail and then in prison I will be totally happy. But Baez today may have been granted the 300 hours but he is already in the red by 106.2 hours. So in actuality Baez only received another 193.8 hours. Don't fret this is all Justice for Caylee. mo
faefrost, you have such a talent for putting your hand on the pulse of the situation. Thank you! What you explained is exactly like when one makes a mistake on paying taxes ~ We can always be sure the government will cash one's payment right away but if even more is owed an additional bill will be coming in the mail. . . They don't just stop everything and not cash your check because your figures were wrong. (Darn it.) :D
Not sure of all the fretting about this additional grant - isn't HHJP just granting these additional funds to back the defense into a corner and lessen the chance of any future appeals which surely would cost the tax payers of Florida far more than an additional 12K.
This isn't HHJP's first roundup.
Exactly!! ... he is just providing them the rope ... he knows they will do the rest.
They have to have something to 'suggest' good progress and that they have 'something' ... what better way than to claim a need for more investigation based on surfaced discovery ... even if the SA is at a loss what there is to investigate?
Since JB went through the $275,000 like a hot knife through butter do you think once they go over his records that someone will draft a law which would require the defense attorney to account for every dime of the client's money before allowing them to apply for State assistance.
It's very difficult to find the facts that favor your client when they are just not there. And it appears that Mr. Baez has had a plan all along to use up that photo money first then make the state pay for all the work he did not do. Look at the discovery. It appears they have done nothing, nothing. And from the looks of the motions that were filed by defense they appear to have been done by students. There seems to be two significant victims in the case against Casey Anthony. Caylee and the State of Florida. jmo
Agreed. Also, doing it a bite at a time is creating a court record of JB's requests. If JB was denied then he'd claim that exculpatory evidence was precluded as a result but by showing a track record of granting increments allows some control, allows JAC to track in those allotments and, requires JB to keep coming back.
JB: "Please, Sir, I want some more"
So the fleecing of the JAC monies will continue right up to the time this goes to trial. It such a shame that they can get by with this in the name of justice. So contrary to what JP said, he will continue funding their fishing expeditions....he has no choice.
Agreed. There's not much HHJP can do. It is what it is. If I had to guess, I'd say JB and company will make at least another 3 more similar requests (if not more). And inevitably HHJP will have to grant his request.
You're probably right, but what bothers me... it's like throwing good money after bad.
Judge Perry is the guy who might have to sentence this girl to death. Imagine how that responsibility might weigh on you. I suspect Perry knows what the State have spent and this is peanuts by comparison.
BBM
A very poignant statement. ITA.
This is what irks me the most!! Casey doesn't deserve any of this...not the State's money, not the media's money, not the attention...nada, zippo, zero! IMVHO, she didn't even deserve Caylee!!
Well, I try to think of it as my money going to make it right for Caylee. Casey does deserve a fair trial that is beyond reproach because this will make it apparent to all how guilty she is. This will benefit Caylee ~ not Casey. What Casey thinks she deserves and what she does deserve are two waaaay different things.
HLN news (vinnie politan) is covering casey anthony story, right now.
I view these payments as providing watertight sealant against future loopholes, and don't begrudge a cent of them. If a conviction is secured we want it to be watertight so this horrible charade can end, and Caylee can rest in peace.
No she doesn't deserve any of it, but when this is all over and Casey is settled into her lonely existence in prison, ALL of the attention, the money, everything ends. She will have a long time to serve and it wouldn't be easy on anyone, for Casey it's going to be he** !
We should start a "Countdown to ICA Trial" thread to document milestones and highlights as we head into trial.
15 weeks to go!
This takes "the end justifies the means" to a new level.
I agree with you. She doesn't deserve the excessive costs but to eliminate any appeal issues, I understand why JB is being given these costs. JAC will make sure the invoices aren't padded, I hope.
*sigh*...I'm really not ok with this one. They are not investigating anything and they are going to try to keep stalling. Finnell needs to BACK OFF of people who do not want to support Casey. It is so disrespectful to keep badgering people like this. Judge Perry was wrong today imo. Seems like the investigation time should be over with by now anyway.
