Actually there are two different pieces of "mystery" evidence in the Oregonlive pictures, and they seem to be in two different areas. The rag is surrounded by vegetation on a slope, while the white thing is on flatter ground near different trees.

The following two pictures have the white piece of paper/receipt or whatever:

These next two have the red rag:

Wow your right. It does say bone.Where was it found at?What medical examiners office would it go to?If it is a human bone what type of bone does it look like?leg, arm, pelvis?

I understand why they can't search today, but It makes me nervous that maybe the leads aren't all that credible that they aren't searching today and that the next search is yet to be determined.

Thx Carole.

IF that's truly a bone in the pic - then it looks like a scapula (shoulder blade) bone, judging by the shape.

IF it is - why oh why would LE allow an image of it to be released to the media?

If you look down on the ground, right next to the pole and directly down and close in front of the man in the photo, I think that may be what he is taking a picture of. His camera does not seem to be pointing towards the brighter, whiter object.

Hey, teenagers can be great at SAR! They have lots of energy. Plus, they usually haven't attained their full growth, so they can get into places that full grown adults cannot get into.

And their eyesight is usually better; even if they need glasses, they rarely need bifocals, so there's none of that "too far away, too close, why have my arms shrunk!" problem.

With good supervision, there are many teenagers who are real assets to their local SAR team. Even if they don't deploy, they can lay track for dog handlers.

Probably and they'd probably make excellent searchers. Teens have a great eye for detail, lots of stamina, etc. But if searching for the body of a young child takes a huge toll on adults, I can't imagine what that's like for a young person. Maybe not as bad, but maybe far worse who knows? Are they really emotionally equipped for such a task or am I infantilizing them too much?

Oh, I see what your concern was.

I think it depends on the specific teenager. Some are emotionally ready to deal with it, some aren't.

The teens who belonged to my local SAR dog team seemed mature and stable. They had to get permission from their parents to participate, who were fully informed as to what searches might entail, plus they had to come with references from their school.

Part of the training for all volunteers was a trip to a medical school, where they were shown cadavers and body parts in various states of dissection and various stages of ageing. There were two reasons for this; one was because bones aren't always dry and white (which is how many people imagine them) and the other reason was to give the volunteers a chance to gauge their emotional response in a controlled situation with lots of support.

No SAR team wants a volunteer to freak out as a result of a search, no matter if they are 16 or 60.

This has got to be so frustrating for SAR and everyone involved there. I can only imagine because it frustrates the heck out of me and I'm not as "close" to this case as they are.

Come on Kyron honey...can you help us out anymore?

I wonder if the most recent search was a result of LE re-evaluating past tips.

For several months, it seemed like LE was really focused on Sauvie Island with multiple searches, etc. During that period, they may have given tips received about other areas somewhat less credibility because they were convinced that SI was the place.

But SI never led to any significant developments, so far as I can see. It seems to me that if I were on the Kyron Task Force, I would have gone back through the tips and looked at the non-SI tips with a different set of lenses, so to speak.

If that truly is a bone they found, why are these photos being released to the public? I can't remember another case I've followed where they've found possible bone and the pictures became public before any testing was done. This seems odd to me.

I would think if that was possibly a human bone, no way would we be seeing these photographs and that bone would be surrounded by LE.

I sure wish we knew how TH is reacting to the new search.

I hope that she feels the same sense of panic that she made him feel. She deserves sleepless nights and the torture of knowing that LE will soon be coming for her!!

Bad girl...bad girl..whatc'cha gonna do? What'cha gonna do when they come for you??!!!

In the Caylee Anthony case, they released pictures of the crime scene the day they discovered it. Several people noticed the whiteness of the skull in the pictures before LE announced the positioning of the body.

It happens sometimes.

Thank you! I was posting those links in search a hurry that I didn't take time to read the captions!

If DD was a cyclist and could still have have been 7 months ago, just go ahead and crown me as the next Ms.USA.....

Okay, found at least one confirmation. She was fit, working out hard, and cycling back in 2008, according to her ex. He mentions it in that famous letter he published. (OregonLive pointer to letter near the bottom -- it's PDF)

She was apparently riding centuries, which is 100 miles in a day -- pretty serious.

I wasn't thinking that she cycled anywhere 7 months ago. I was thinking that she might have become familiar with that route back when she was in cycling shape and riding 100-mile loops.

Just a side note.... there are bones all over the woods, scattered all over the place courtesy of critters. Something to keep in mind.
ETA-Let's also remember that just because a reporter puts a caption on something doesn't necessarily make it so, KWIM?

I do remember that now that you mention it. Thanks! It just seems so weird to me that it could possibly be a human bone and there it is, right in front of us for all to see.

Exactly. And I don't trust reporters much. They'll say whatever they want for headlines.

Especially in this case with one news station in particular for some odd reason. Too many sensational stories corrected because they were wrong later. That's just not right.

I have to try and actually get things done today since I spent WAY to much time on the computer yesterday! I just had a couple of quick thoughts.

The area they were searching yesterday is definitely a cyclist hub. I drive up Skyline every Saturday for Horse lessons (which is mostly what you see out there, horses and tree farms) and never see many cars but always a group of cyclists that I have to avoid hitting. I don't think you'll see people going out there this week and trying to search on their own as many of the areas are private property but then again...with some of the crazy people following this case ....I sure hope they don't go trudging through there. Present company excluded of course! ;)
I personally feel they must have gotten some sort of clue that pointed them to that area. Maybe something about Skyline logging roads which is why they were in several places but all off of Skyline. I don't think it was cell pings as the coverage is too spotty. I think it had to be something else...whether it be an email they recently discovered or a viable tip phoned in? I also believe this tip came in the last 6 weeks or less. JMO
