Been there, done that, a number of times. So sorry you had to go through it, but very relieved you are safe. Continuing to send prayers for the rest of you faced with the threat of fire and tornadoes. I have a terrible fear of fire.

I hate wildfires! You just never know where they are going to start and it has been soooo dry here, no rainfall in months and months, no humidity so it's like a tinderbox ready to go up in flames at any second.

I went through that with Hurricane Katrina. I know, different natural disaster, but I know the fear of not knowing if your house and belongings are still there. I'm glad things seem to be under control somewhat. More prayers to the locals and anyone affected by these wildfires.

NM has had terrible fire seasons every year I've lived here, it seems, and they start earlier and earlier. I am hoping we still get another month or two of "winter" with some rain and snow (even though our roof leaks :( )

I noticed it was very hot already in TX these past few days, also in S. NM, never a good sign in February...

Last week there was strong winds and a fire broke out, winds were 35mph sustained and gusty up to 50mph. We got the evacuation order, no firehydrant where I live, fire dept had to pump water from the river. Anyway what sparked that fire was two hunters target practicing. When it is dry it doesn't take much for a fire to start. A car passing on I20 throwing out a cig could do it easily.

Wow - I checked before the Oscars and didn't see this news!!!

Here in Tennessee, we had a 60-mph wind storm on Thursday night, and now we have high wind and severe weather warnings for tomorrow afternoon, but hopefully with rain. If it comes through as just a lightning storm I'm worried because it's very dry right now where I live too.

As far as the Landfill burning: that often happens with landfills even when there is no wind. Gases are released from trash when it is piled up (think "hot compost") and since people throw away aerosol cans and all kinds of solvents, fires can start spontaneously. We used to have that problem with our landfill, and it was one of the reasons it was closed down.

But just to know what this means for the searches and the Hailey case, it just boggles my mind that this is occurring now. I think it's an act of God, and we just have to wait on those old mysterious ways, I guess.

These fires are absolutely devastating for people but on another side of that I was thinking that maybe these fires may light the way, uncover a path to find Hailey.....one can hope.

MITCHELL COUNTY

Colorado City appears to have been hit very hard by grass fires. Sunday evening a fire spread into the city and burned an apartment, several homes, a store and part of a motel. The hospital and nursing home in Colorado City were evacuated at one point, but people were allowed to return as the danger subsided. The fire started near the airpark around 2:30 and traveled around 10 miles.

Divine intervention perhaps. If it helps to expose the evil deeds committed on innocent children, and takes no more in the process, I can live with it.

If random fires were started at a time of year CC is known to be dry, with a sinister purpose, well. There is not a dern thing I can do about it.
No Way SA could successfully take an entire city out. Now I feel paranoid! And I am all out of tinfoil. :waitasec:
Guess I gotta use newspaper or spray paint... "I always feel like SOMEbody's watching meeeee" lol :floorlaugh:
sorry needed a laugh going to my time out chair now. :innocent:

Off topic.

The madrid fault line was said to have a 93 percent chance of a major earthquake during the next few years according to report I read. Scarey. I would link the article but it was not something I saved and I think I just found it on google after searching information about the fault line.
