Posting to have my links handy.

  • #903
They didn't object to that excusal?

  • #904
Next Juror will be excused as well - his employers will not excuse him for jury duty.

IMO the defense is tipping their hand on which potentials they are worried about. The SA has not asked a single additional question during this phase, whereas CM is subjecting those they don't like to the extended questioning/probing, trying to bring up other conflicts they may not have thought of. I'm sure the SA is taking good notes on this "tell."

I just think that the SAO is using their brains! Today is all about just getting people who CAN serve without it being a hardship. Once they have those jurors chosen, then the meat of the matter will be much more fun and telling to watch.

Bye, bye young single guy...

  • #907
Yeah, can't have a responsible young person on the jury, can we DT?

  • #908
this potential juror lives with his parents. HHJP: what financial hardship would it cause you if you were to be here. he could not pay his car payment or his phone bill. any questions?

both sides: no

HHJP: step outside. he is excused for hardship.

Next potential juror is called.

I'm late. Anyone know how many probable jurors at this time?

I don't understand why this part of the selection was not done as a group. In the past when I have been called for jury duty, we were asked as a group to stand if we had children under the age of 10, those were automatically dismissed, then if anyone was a caretaker of an elderly person, etc. When all those were cleared out, anyone else who felt a hardship was asked to stand, and then individually were asked to explain what their hardship was. It seems to me doing it that way would be a lot more time efficient. *shrug*

THis juror does not speak english well enough and will not be able to follow the trial...excuse her please

  • #913
English not good, don't understand. I sure hope she is excused.

Black rimmed glasses are next.

Why didn't they give that girl a mini makeover before this trial started?? That long hair is hideous and some mix/match age appropriate conservative clothes might have helped. Appearances to a jury are very important, that sweater looks like it belongs to her grandmother!

HHJP: would it cause you a hardship to serve on this jury and be in orlando for a period of six to eight weeks?

that is not a problem but I am afraid my english is not good enough. and first week of june her husband is out of town.

HHJP what is your native language?

Vietnameise. (sp?) sorry.

she is excused. ( I am glad about that... I have to say... for both sides! )

In our area if you have a hardship all the jurors go up to the judge and tell why. No attorneys involved.
