I personally liked the young man who told Casey straight to her face that she was guilty. :floorlaugh: That was the brightest moment of the day so far.

I just checked our manual....I am .gov employee. If you are called to jury duty and take "court leave" you have to sign your witness fee over to the court. If you take annual leave, you can keep your "witness fee". Doesn't say how long they will or won't pay you for though. I assume for as long as it takes.

yea we have to either sign over the check or have them deduct it from our pay.

BBM.

Look what happened with that trial, too? The State feels they need to have young mothers on this jury. However, they are exactly the ones who are unable to do this for 2+ months. I'm hoping that the length of this trial doesn't naturally skew this jury towards the Defense.

In all fairness there is a lot skewed in favour of the Prosecution (such as pre-trial coverage, and the fact that most jurors will most likely be retirees, etc favouring the prosecution).

You can't have it all your way. Importantly, regardless of what you think of ICA the whole point of this is to find an impartial jury. Not to do so would not only be unfair to ICA but also the memory of Caylee since justice can only be served with a fair trial and an impartial jury.

I'm only keeping the count on race because JB made such a big deal about it.

1 African American

5 Hispanic

So far. I am only going by accents and the sound of their voices.

My mistake

Jury Summons
Names are randomly selected from the list of names supplied annually by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. If you are chosen as a juror, you will be notified by mail. The jury summons you receive will include the time, date and place of your appearance, an excusal form, a Code-a-Phone number, and a group letter. (This is used in assigning you to a specific courtroom, later in the selection process).

HHJP: this trial will last six to eight weeks. will it impose a hardship on you to serve in this case.

I am a manager of a brewery. It is a resturant also. To be away from there would not be good for him. He is not sure if six to eight weeks is possible.

HHJP: assume you were selected and you were not paid after three weeks how would you survive?

I would have to ask my friends and family for money.

HHJP: who would run the business?

bartenders and kitchen staff...

HHJP: would you feel comfortable about them having full reign of your business without you there.

no

HHJP: stand outside and we will give you an answer. Mr. George? No. Mr. Mason? No.

excused.

I wonder if ICA is enjoying this parade of people, young and old, who have responsibilities they take seriously and debts they intend to pay, personal and financial?

  • #1,757
Is anyone keeping track of how many potential jurors have been interviewed? How many have been dismissed for hardship? How many were kept for the second round? TIA

That is because most trials aren't expected to last for 2+ months and require sequestration 200 miles away from home.

The Capital trial that I was seated on was expected to last eight weeks but was not sequestered. That meant that my company expected me to work during the night to make up for not being there during the day.
