I think Ann Finnell and Baez were both shocked at the amount of hands. They both said OMG - you can see it clearly.

Yes. AF's mouth dropped open and she looked quite shocked and dismayed. JB, on the other hand, looked a bit pleased. I thought I saw a bit of an "I told you so!" smirk on his face. jmo

Although, having briefly looked at the case law on this matter the principle behind not shackling the Defendant include embarrasment to the Defendant, dignity and decorum of the court process, communicate with counsel and (I would imagine) take an active part in one's own defense.

Preparing the case and communication may neccesitate speaking afterwards to attorneys and briefly taking notes after the hearing. It is also embarassing for the Defendant to be hauled out immediately as if though she cannot be trusted to momentarily speak to the Attorneys.

All MO but I appreciate we will continue to differ on this.

However, I suspect a lot of people just want to see ICA have a hard a time as possible. A sort of pre-judgement punishment. Whilst, I understand the reasoning behind this (the State's worse allegations against her - or their worst theory - is/are quite atrocious) the desired punishment, discomfort, pain, embarasment, anxiety and whatever else you want to see inflicted upon her should rightly wait until (and indeed if) she is convicted.

The reason one should not be shackled is because some may presume the prisoner guilty or may imply the prisoner may be a threat, this obviously can taint the jury. With this point I agree.

In Casey Anthony's case it may also have been to save her anymore embarrassment and injury as she seems unable to wear them without losing equilibrium, crashing to the floor and chipping a tooth requiring dental repair.

If Casey Anthony needs to speak with her attorney she just needs to indicate that at some point during the proceeding and her Attorney will arrange it, if he wants to, or needs to.

Unfortunately the defendant continually plucks at, pokes, touches and flirts with both her male attorneys they have yet to get this behavior under control, she has also slapped JB's arm and tried to get his attention while at the podium.
I could go on but you get my meaning, she is the embarrassment in the courtroom and her rights far from being impinged upon are indulged to an extreme degree.

The vast majority aren't sitting here hoping Casey gets karma bombed in some way just to indulge our need for revenge. Most respectfully, I find your own judgment to be over harsh and a little critical. All most people want is justice for Calyee who amidst all the brouhaha is almost always forgotten.

I have to say it really pizzes me off that this person chose to give an interview after being told yesterday...DO NOT SPEAK to anyone.

Yes they were dismissed but the fact that they gave an interview and seemed willing to speak for the room at large makes you wonder......WTH is wrong with people these days.

Of course....just watching her....she's shall I say.....not media shy??

We'll see her end up on Nancy Grace as a talking head B4 you know it.

The media always picks the ummmmmmmmm unusual people to interview don't they??

Seeing Baez in court with that ####### {sorry ahead of time} eating grin on his face when this all exploded, and now this woman speaking out; and as you said, for the majority of the people that were called.

It would not surprise me in the least if first thing tomorrow morning, there is some motion filed once again with this video attached asking for a change of venue.
At the very least, at some point in time, we will certainly see this video brought before the court to be dealt with.

You can bet the farm on that.

I also will go one step further regarding this person that spoke.
I have no idea if this person is a witness for the state or the defense. However, if they are a witness for the defense, I would not be one bit surprised if this person didn't make a phone call to Baez' office as soon as they recieved their notice and told him.

Maybe a little "bug" in the ear of this witness, off the record to "chat"?
IMO, Baez just seemed to be way to pleased, and, also seemed to know what was going on.

It gets very telling at the 1:00 mark - she is talking to CM and shaking her head several times, looking exasperated. Then she says "Well,..." and then CM shakes his head and they both look up towards JB talking to AF. The long look then!

It looks like CM is her new BFF that is playing the go-between and he doesn't look like he is on JB's side.

Lol! After the first daggers stare, then puppy stare, I see what looks like to me KC saying "because he doesn't stop." Then more daggers and puppy glances.

IM not sure elfie..but think it has something to do with Statute of Limitations..and timing of trial once charges were filed?...At the point of the filings, who knew how long the case would take for ICA's murder trial to come to fruition???...Maybe a legal eagle could clearify on that point TYIA:waitasec:

I found what the woman, who was interviewed by Kathi, said about the juror/witness was very interesting. I think it is pretty obvious and I will leave it at that. :innocent:

Anywho, I have calmed down and will go into tomorrow hoping that we will pick right up where we left off. How many do we have total going through to the next round? 39? We may have lost a day, maybe two? Might be mid-week-next week before we start trial, but I'm okay with that. Hopefully that was the one and only hiccup we will have?

It's absurd that she was tried on these charges before the 1st degree murder charges. It was done expressly to be able to do exactly what you are doing here, in order to state that she is a convicted felon. We knew something was amiss with the defense when they weren't able to postpone this until after the trial for the more serious charges.

I completely disagree. It isn't all just about Casey.

Amy had a right to due process. SHE was the victim, and wanted the case decided! As it was, it took way too long, BECAUSE the defense wanted to delay it. :twocents:

Anyone remember during the check charges, she was not charged with murder yet, and JB asked for Discovery on a case that did not yet exist, just the hint that it would. Cracked me up!

Just remember however - It was Baez himself who said - Just because you are smiling doesn't mean you are happy! (said in court about the big smile with ICA in her blue hoodie)

I don't see why that would make Baez happy - I think he's going to get the same reaction any where he cares to go in Florida...

Nope, more hiccups from defense team coming. One Motion is set for Friday morning, another is bound to be on its way.

Casey got a 5 year sentence and got credit for the 412 days she's already spent in jail. She also has to pay almost $6,000 in court and prosecution costs, which she says is too high.

That's what the prosecution asked for but in the end, JS sentenced her to time served and the one year probation.

“She’s charged with 13 separate crimes or offenses as a result of the four stolen checks,” Judge Strickland said after hearing both sides’ arguments. “On counts 3, 6, 9 and 12, those are the forgery counts, there is going to be an adjudication of guilt and time served is 412 days.”Strickland also adjudicated guilt on counts 1 and 2 with time served.“As for the four counts of uttering a forged check, 4, 7, 10, 13, and as to counts 5, 8, 11, three of the four fraudulent use of identification counts, the court is going to withhold adjudication with time served and one year of supervised probation,” Judge Strickland said. “I've done what I think is fair based on what I know.”

I used to be a bit afraid of their opening statement too. But then Linda K-Baden
made an appearance on NG last week and eased my mind. She told us that the biggest problem for the defense is the 31 Days. Okay, she worked closely with Baez on his defense strategy. Wouldn't you think that if he really had an answer for that lined up, that she would know about it? Apparently she is not convinced that his opening remarks are going to put that issue to rest.

Casey is the only one with the right to due process, she is the only one charged. This is why there is such a push for victim's rights here (which I also believe are warranted).

I kind of dread NG being on the scene as she may go over the top with this jury dismissal story, making it that much harder to find jurors.

I have to say, I am almost getting suspicious of anyone who does want to put their life on hold to be on this jury. I'm glad some people do and will, but it does make you wonder.

On the other hand, my husband is a stereotypical postal employee and would rather do almost anything besides go to work. So he might wangle himself on a jury for two months, but hopefully not this one, as he has a very definite opinion just from watching occassional reruns of HLN on weekends while flipping channels.

Interesting. A lot of my American friends didn't know about this case (even although there have been news articles, a few though, in the UK). What I don't get is that the press seem to compare teh publicity in this case to that in OJ.

A lot of the press that compares the case to OJ is the Orlando press, and this case probably does feel similar to OJ down there. But on a national level, I don't think it's comparable to OJ. If you want a comparison involving statistics, there were around 30,000 newspaper articles about the Simpson case from 1994-1995 compared to 1700 newspaper articles about this case since Caylee was reported missing.
