Confused about the judge's "mercy" ruling..anyone want to interpret? TIA

3 things:

1. The defense can ask the question if they would consider mercy in reaching a decision.

2. They can not ask and it will not be made part of the jury instruction as something they can consider.

3. It is not a reason to excuse them for cause.
