Is this true? Do they have to accept their jurors from the first 12-22 they are presented with? If so, why did they get 70 or called back? I think they have the right to choose from all 70 and if they can't, more may need to be called in.

Instead of going through all the steps with the entire pool, which, let's face it, will take a month at this point, HHJP appears to be breaking the entire pool into smaller pieces. That way, they only have to do enough small pools until all the strikes are used, and/or they have the 12 jurors and 8 alternates.
This will hopefully keep the trial on schedule. It is also fair, because it is being applied to both sides.
