2011.05.14 - Sidebar Thread (Juror Selection Day Six)

I just wanted to say that I loved the way the mods had tried it before where they copied and pasted the most informative posts into a thread recap of the day . . . however, I think it was way too cumbersome when the threads are flying and they are just trying to keep up with moderating the ongoing posts. I think the twitter thread is the second best thing for the just the facts. Of course, it is not the wisdom of our own members, but it is the next best thing for blow by blow updates.

Cruised over to the Hinky a few moments ago, and read a really interesting and long comment from one of their posters who was there in the courtroom yesterday.:innocent:

I am not comfortable quoting any or all of her post over here - it doesn't feel fair, but for anyone who wants to read this blow by blow fairly irreverent article from someone who understands who everybody is - go over and have a peek. Well done Marcena!:great:

The post is in Miscellaneous topics on Caylee, the posters name is Marcena, posted this morning at 9:14am. It's long and well worth the read IMO:rocker:

Thanks, LG - well worth the read. Always so interesting to get the first hand report from the courtroom. So much we cannot see.

Okay, here we go. Once again this is posted on www.thehinkymeter.com in the miscellaneous Caylee discussion thread, on page 22, by Marcena at 9.14 this morning.
Marcena begins:

[It's a slower news day for us low life bloggers so I waited until this AM to post. It was very interesting to attend. If anyone gets the chance (and luck) to grab a seat this summer I highly recommend it.

I show up at the courthouse at 8:10 for the Saturday selection. Cheney Mason shows up by himself at 8:13 AM. The entire prosecution team shows up next at 8:16 AM. I smile and JA smiles back. LDB looks at me questioning like. Oops. Simms and Finnell come in together soon after. At 8:25 Baez comes rolling in with his briefcase on wheels and his cheezy pocket square. Figures he is the last one there.

...............

<modsnipped>

...............

Casey walks in and I feel - nothing. Unimpressed. She is just a petite, pasty, mousy, muffled shell of her former self. They must have her on meds. She moves in slow motion like a sloth. This is an AHA moment for me. If care zilch about Casey, then I must be tuning into the case for the details of the crime: when was Caylee's body dumped, when does the State think the tape was placed (before or after death), how involved were the rest of the Ants and what/when did they know ... and Baez's big jaw-dropping reveal next week. And of course, justice for Caylee.

JP blows through PJs 1123 and 1050. Over at the DT table I see what looks like Facebook up on]

Up to you all to go over and read the rest....:rocker:

Just my two cents, but I feel like I'm having an experience with friends when watching a hearing, jury selection,or a trial, and I don't consider the posts extraneous.
It's why I come to WS and would miss it if we had to strictly remain court reporters only.

I understand the frustration when you are looking for info ,after the fact, and have no solution ,other than 2 seperate threads.

Just for the record, the weather info was because it was disrupting the signal for the live streams out of the courthouse.

This is a dilemma in neighborhoods everywhere. What brings some pleasure ,is annoying to others.

I'll respect whatever rules are in place for the trial ,but I'll miss my peeps : (

ITA . . . for people riding along . . . it is the journey not just the destination. For ones that missed the whole day . . . they just want the destination info and the down and dirty highlights of the trip. 2 threads is awesome but not sure how this could be pulled off. I don't want to burden the mods anymore than they already are. If there were a recap thread that posted the "just the facts" of the highlights of the day without repetition (much like the respected daily latest news thread) that posters would honor with quotes from others (or their own) to help those who can't devote the time to read over 2,000 posts per thread. Furthermore, I would love a Post of the Day ongoing thread that would include comedic relief quotes as well.

Just my opinion

Much as I'd like to, we can't keep Sidebar open all day for a few reasons : 1) We'd have parallel trial threads running at the same time; and 2) the mods are slammed right now mod'g the real time thread and topical threads. It just isn't possible for us to try to keep up with the 2 most popular threads on the forum flying at the same time. Sorry guys.

We're not going to heavily snip and moderate the real time threads, no matter what. We will remove multiple, repetitive OT posts that clog up the thread and make it hard to follow, but that is about it. It will never become a transcription of the hearing, that is not it's intention or purpose.

There are many threads here for those that want to get a quick recap - the Twitter thread is super fast reading w/ real time updates, then we have daily News thread and the Media Links thread. I would suggest those threads for posters who are looking for an abbreviated version of the news of the day.

I'm going to be away for three weeks at the end of the month and until June 18th so I plan on just checking the news thread daily and scanning the threads to see if anything is interesting. I'll be out of the country so I will be cruising thru the threads and taking notes on what to check when I get back. I understand everyone wants to add their comments because this is what it is all about so I figured checking on the separate threads will give me an idea, i.e. Anthony's plan to sue BC. It also gives me an idea of what is happening and when I have time after I get back I will watch the trial parts I missed after the trial is finished. I recommend watching those videos even if it takes a couple of nights. Then you know what to look for by way of comments in the threads figuring out approximately what time the event happened. jmo

Thank you Miss James! I agree, and while I understand this poster's frustration, I'm not sure posters who do not spend 8/10/12 hours a day watching and posting on live feed appreciate how difficult it actually is.

The threads zoom along at an alarming rate so you will see multiple posts about the same thing. And sometimes we go slightly off topic for something that is funny or concerning because we need a relief break. For many of us this is a sacrifice we are making away from own real time lives. Yes, we choose to do it, and worry about what we "should" be doing at the same time. Some of us, like me, work full time at at the same time, and are constantly juggling phones, documents, news feed, blah, blah. I don't think any of us are sitting here because we have nothing better to do.

I learned years ago that it's impossible for me to keep up when things are on a roll around here. I can't do it - and I read pretty fast.

So, I had to adjust. It means missing some but it works for me. I don't read the whole thread. Mainly because if I look away for oh, 10 seconds, I will be automatically behind at least 3 pages. God forbid if I have to pee, lol. So I just skip ahead to the last page.

Enough is usually quoted, so that if there is something I want to know about, I click on the quoted post and drill backwards to find the info. I'm constantly opening new tabs. I open new tabs if I want to respond to a post as well. It works for me because I'm used to opening new tabs for everything anyway.

Now if I could just remember to keep my main tabs color coded I'd be in like Flynn.

Man! I pacifically :giggle: scheduled my workmen to come Tuesday. Now I'm going to have to find a reason to take off Thursday.

On HLN, they keep playing the clip where the poor woman who lost her son tells how devastating it is to lose a child, and how unfathomable it is to not cooperate with LE in the inestigation. Anyone who is on the fence between accident and murder needs to watch this clip. While this woman is talking about losing a child ICA's face is a complete blank. It is the same exact expression she had on her face early on in front of HHJP when he called her behavior bizarre.

Also want to add we have two posters who post brilliant recaps over and over through out the thread - and bravo to them!!

Now if I could just remember to keep my main tabs color coded I'd be in like Flynn.

Thank Technical - appreciate your comments. Also wanted to add when we are posting as we listen, we can't see what is posted at the same time while our post is loading, then if our isp slows down, or WS slows down the loading is really slow.

Then we get back to the thread to see six other people said the same thing, but! we are already behind in posting because such and such happened in real time while we waiting and when we post again we get chucked off the site cause WS is overloaded and we gallop along to get back on - quite the gong show sometimes. Which is why you only see us editing our comments somewhat. We do have two posters who are brilliant at posting re-caps as we go along and I thank them for that!

When it is over or there is a recess, our self edit ability has gone. Not sure how long we can access our own edit, but it is what? Mods? five minutes at most.

No official date has been set for the Casey Anthony trial and jury selection will resume this week in Pinellas County, according to court officials.

Karen Levey, spokeswoman for the 9th Judicial Circuit, said Sunday the start of the region's most anticipated first-degree murder trial has not been determined.

No, it's longer than 5 min....I want to say 30 min, but not sure. I believe the edit time has been increased recently. I will check on it and get back to you.

She's a very good descriptive writer. Thanks LG ,for finding it.
I didn't realize LDB wore 3 inch heels!
And Marcena describes LDB as the one in charge, the work engine of the group.
I can't wait for trial!:great:

As I said before, That PJ took this opportunity to say to ICA what we would all like to say. I'm sorry she couldn't serve on the jury.

LOL Beach - you already have enough to do. I don't know about anyone else who is posting and listening and working at the same time, but it utter chaos for me for eight hours - or the lunch break or recess. I want to be here - and it is hugely tense, intensely frustrating ( lunge time) and some times boring.

And I am always grateful for some wise hat's wit who accidently or on purpose gives us a nice big belly laugh.

It was great wasn't it? I read it and thought oohhh - gotta share this with my peeps!
We have our Amil who posts for us at hearings and I love to read them.
But I've been missing that personal touch while these hearing have been out of Orlando. So that's what I was actually looking for when I cruised over to the Hinky. Something juicy and real :great:

That "look" from LDB =

I've been listening to the jury selection and know they have 12 but still need 8 but I'm unsure if the 12 are firm selections so, will the trial begin on Tuesday or has a new date been set?

According to the article in post #691, no date has been set yet.

okay, don't know if this has been posted yet, as I logged off last night on page 19 - but was reading this article about picking the jurors,

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/en...-lost-child-speaks-with-wrenching-candor.html

and a quote:

The mother who revealed that her son had died in a car accident. “To lose a child is the worst thing that this earth has to serve on anyone,” she said. “It changes the way you see the world. It is out of the natural order of things.”

She said she couldn’t be fair in the Anthony case, because Caylee hadn’t been reported missing for a month. “I would see that as guilt by omission,” the woman said. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in Caylee’s death.

I don't recall this lady?? and I watched the whole proceedings - or at least I THOUGHT I did!! :waitasec: which # was she?

If my notes are correct - I think her number was 1394 - but I could be wrong.
