2011.05.16 Sidebar Thread (Juror Selection Day Seven)

For those that were here for the Peterson trial - do you remember how many jurors were out, then alternates in. Dang near a 3 ring circus. At the end we had "Strawberry Shortcake" who ended up cooresponding with SP for a long while. The drama was high as a kite!

I frequently attended the SP trial. and I remember wondering if we'd run out of jurors, but in the end, we got the right jury.

Thank U so much. I thought it would be cool to put my headphones on and lie down in bed -- NOT. I think I was snoring within 3 seconds. Hubby better show up with that cable that hooks the pooter to the TV cuz I can't sit in a chair all day - LOL.

Anyway, I pray we get the 8 alternates, because I really think we're gonna need em.

Who wants to guess JB uses all his strikes tomorrow just as a stall tactic?

Jury selection at Casey Anthony's trial for her 2-year-old daughter Caylee’s murder is nearing its end in Pinellas County. 5 potential jurors questioned on Monday were held over after their second round of voir dire, bringing the total chosen so far to 17.

However, the prosecution and defense still have the right to remove those jurors before Judge Belvin Perry swears them in. Both sides have 8 peremptory challenges left after each used their second challenge on Monday. There have been a number of other candidates over the last week who either side has attempted to have excused for cause, but Perry denied those requests.

It's finally warm where I live and my van was quite warm today. I was thinking of Caylee being left in ICA's car in the hot summer sun and was choking back the tears while driving. It rips my heart out thinking of Caylee's murder at the hands of her protector, her Mother. The person that will sit before the jury without emotion as the court hears how our little Caylee spent her last moments on this earth. I know I will be going through the kleenex....as will you my fellow WSers.

Wow - you must have the patience of a saint. I know it's not for this thread, but the jury seemed to be quite "interesting". What were your thoughts on them? We can always take this over to the SP thread too.

How exciting to attend the trial live! I didn't see much - they didn't even put AF on the stand (I believe she sat in the gallery while they played the infamous tapes).

I'm pretty sure it was three. The first was Justin Falconer, one was the doctor/lawyer, and I can't remember exactly who the third was.

So much to say about that one. We may have a SP trial watcher at this one too, we shall see. More as time goes by. But yes, jury musical chairs. So interesting. I'm a trial watcher. May go to Jackson; friend may go to Florida for Anthony. Hardcore.

Thanks...what I should have said was...how many were interviewed today? Is 3 to 4 potential jurors realistic for tomorrow...and all the backstriking? Trying to figure out if trial will really be starting on Thurs.

Its entirely possible RR..tho JP wanted to have 12 jurors with 4-6 alternates..So yes IF all four 2nd rounders (Tues AM) get passed that it is entirely possible...

Call me crazy..but somehow....I think JP will go with 12 jurors with 4 alternates..so I guess we will have to wait and see how the "Dust Settles" knowing the defense> they may chose to use all P Challenges/Strikes..however could backfire and have to accept ones they woudnt have...Its called a race to the finish line:floorlaugh:..or be careful what you wish for:floorlaugh:

I wanted to post this earlier when it was timely, but zee thread was closed for construction...I am posting it now because I am hard headed and I want to!!:

JA is so cute with his OCD, reminds me of me. The front page of his notepad was curling up a little, and he kept trying to flatten it with his hands, but it wouldn't, so he set his pen on it to make it stay flat. Wonder if he hates it when people step on vacuum lines, too.

That was my stupid post that I just had to write. I heart his OCD, it was endearing.

Of course the trial will start on Thursday... Because that's the only day this month that the pulmonary specialist can see me... <sigh>

It's the only day until July that I have have to work! The entire day and then a working dinner .We eat lunch and breakfast in the conference room.

I will be keeping my Blackberry on my lap and sneak reading pms :crazy:

If they start with cops, they start with timed record, which has a nice symmetry overall.

I could be wrong of course, but... I think the way it works is, the order as it is now, stays the same. In other words, #1319 The older African American woman is currently in the 8th seat, will stay in the 8th seat, whether people in seats #1 through #7 are removed and replaced or not. Otherwise, it would be impossible to keep track. Thats how I think its done.

For example, Juror #1129 the single guy is currently in seat #2. If he was the first to be stricken from the jury, with them having bypassed Juror #1340 who occupies seat #1, then, Juror #1025 the chef, who is currently in seat #13, would move into seat #2.

That is how I think it is done. But, we will all find out tomorrow morning. Not too many hours to wait.

Maybe they are talking about the announcement their lawyer made that they plan to sue Brad Conway and report him to the Bar for talking about them on TV.

My understanding is the prosecution cannot strike her. They have used their "strike" or peremptory challenge and it was denied.

The defense can still strike her but I would be shocked if they did.

At the end of court I saw SA/DT talking in corner,could be making deals on some of the strikes. I don't think AA woman is safe,D/T could use a strike on her in order to hold on to another person,that the SA office wants off. I think deals are being made this evening JMHO:twocents:
