That JB's head didn't explode after the hundreth "Sustained" by the judge. I was waiting for it to happen.
You know why JB kept going outside of the scope of direct even though he will be able to ask any question he wants later, when he calls GA to the stand as a defense witness? Because he was flabbergasted that GA was the first witness and he was disturbed by how credible GA was and understood immediately that GA's direct testimony swiftly refuted his ridiculous opening and the allegations of abuse.
Thus, JB felt he could not afford to wait. he knew he would be sustained but he hoped that just by asking the questions outside the scope that would be objected to, would put questions in the jurors minds.
See, I always describe cross examination as my narrative interjected by the witnesses yeses or nos. I ask only yes or no questions if i can help it and my questions paint the picture. The answers given are irrelevant to me
because it the questions themselves that lead the way to the point I;m trying to make.
But, I do not believe JB was very effective in his cross because he was unprepared to do it right then and because GA's direct testimony was much too damning to his client.
