That JB's head didn't explode after the hundreth "Sustained" by the judge. I was waiting for it to happen.

You know why JB kept going outside of the scope of direct even though he will be able to ask any question he wants later, when he calls GA to the stand as a defense witness? Because he was flabbergasted that GA was the first witness and he was disturbed by how credible GA was and understood immediately that GA's direct testimony swiftly refuted his ridiculous opening and the allegations of abuse.

Thus, JB felt he could not afford to wait. he knew he would be sustained but he hoped that just by asking the questions outside the scope that would be objected to, would put questions in the jurors minds.

See, I always describe cross examination as my narrative interjected by the witnesses yeses or nos. I ask only yes or no questions if i can help it and my questions paint the picture. The answers given are irrelevant to me
because it the questions themselves that lead the way to the point I;m trying to make.

But, I do not believe JB was very effective in his cross because he was unprepared to do it right then and because GA's direct testimony was much too damning to his client.

I was also shocked that JB did not even mention the sexual abuse allegations to GA while he was cross examining him. He should have hammered him about whatever lies KC has made up for the trial, but he never even brings it up. He asked him 10 times about what Cindy wore to work 3 years ago, but not a peep about sexually abusing his daughter. Didn't make any sense.

yeal I saw that. So the sexual abuse comment was just for effect I guess...disgusting!
on one of the talking heads shows, they said it was a great move and they compared him to Johnny Cochran ---well....

Other .....All of the above! Where did GA or ICA leave the body? Where did RK steal the body from and before he planted it down the street? How did the smell get in the car?

So many things! But I remember doing a real head scratch when JB urged the jury to find her not guilty and send her "home". Home? To the family that molests her?

  • #145
I'm not 100% convinced the Defense Team wants to get her off.
Like someone said, they would consider LWOP a win.
So, I wasn't shocked much, can't say not at all.
IMO

No kidding! After this trial, JA is going to have buns of steel from getting up and down all day! :floorlaugh:

I would not call it a "shock" but the consistent blame the DT placed on everyone other than ICA (even with the accidental drowning):
CA left the ladder up on the pool (ICA is not at fault)
GA was busy working on something when Caylee disappeared (ICA is not at fault)
ICA lies. Her family raised her to. ICA is not at fault.
GA was the one who found dead Caylee in the pool. (ICA didn't find her dead. Thusly, ICA is not at fault)
GA blamed ICA and said she would go to jail for the rest of her life for neglect. ICA was scared. GA took over and ICA is not at fault.

Oh...and the computer searches...not addressed by the Defense at all.

Basically, Caylee drowned herself. Caylee was at fault. GA was not paying attention. Nevermind what ICA was doing at the time. And CA facilitated Caylee dying by not leaving the pool ladder where it should have been. Am I getting this right? ICA is not at fault cuz she was "molested" (when really the only molestation I believe ICA has ever had is the stuff she is doing to herself daily in the courtroom...with the petting and the primping and the constant drawing of attention to her breasts) and lies...and lies because she was raised to...not because lying nor stealing is anything that she has never done even before Caylee died...God Bless America. I don't need to worry about ICA going down in flames because the Defense has lit the fuse. Honestly, how does not JB and Co...NOT think that after she is convicted THEY won't be her next victim? (can we not all see, Ann Finnell molested me, Cheney Mason molested me, JB raped me...coming down the pike? Cuz it seems apparent that is how Casey operates. JMO)

The whole defense presentation was a shock to me. I knew what to expect because we've been talking about it for weeks but to hear it come out of Baez's mouth was just unbelievable. If it weren't such a serious matter, it would be completely laughable. He blamed George for sexually abusing Casey, Lee for following in his father's footsteps, Cindy for leaving the ladder up at the pool, Roy Kronk for removing Caylee's body and taking it home with him for an extended stay. Does he not realize how stupid the jury must think he and his defense team are? I mean, really?

I know we had a discussion about the pool ladder in 08.
I don't remember all the facts, maybe someone does, but, I do remember something about Caylee not being tall enough to climb the ladder.

Does anyone remember the facts?

Biggest shock today? ... That it was a compelling opening by JB that had me sighing, "Now I understand, now it all makes sense" .... NOT!! Too many pieces with too many holes. Keep it simple. KISS

This attack on the parents will push the Jury from LIFE to DP for the spiteful b..ch defendant.

I always thought GA would be a hostile witness to the Prosecution. The defense made GA one- and he wasn't even hostile back towards them. It's like the bully in the playground looking for a fight and everyone backed down taking the wind out of their sails. Does that make sense?

When JB used the "P" word!!!

...and he dropped the F bomb when quoting LDB. Second time I've heard it live on daytime tv!

If that is the case it looks like the prosecution knew exactly who was going under the bus first and that is why they called George first. To blow JB out of the water.

I only know that I am in shock. The level of disgust that I am feeling tonight has reached a level on my scale...that is truly immeasurable.

I am watching talking heads on TV...Dr. Drew right now, and one person suggested that GA put the duct tape on Caylee's mouth, because with his law enforcement background he knew that a drowning victim "leaks" stuff from the mouth.

I am disgusted beyond belief.

ETA: My mother, God rest her soul, used to say about truly horrible people "Hell's not big enough to hold them all...." I now know exactly what she meant.

The biggest shock today was that JB believed this poo poo would work.

There was obviously quite a bit of shock today but one thing I was very surprised about was George testifying that Caylee had told him she was excited to see Zanny. Not surprised that George said it, just that it was something I don't believe we've heard before.

That also sorta shocked me to hear that Caylee refered to Zanny with enjoyment, I don't know about you guy's but this has alway's driven me crazy and with George saying that Caylee was looking forward to see Zanny. Who or what was Zanny obviously it was something that was tangable enough for a child to look forward too. What or Who was nicknamed Zanny!!!!!

Sorry not a shocker moment but I would love to hear this come out at trial.

Opening Statements are not evidence. He didn't cross GA about it because he knows it's something he can't prove and is a bald-faced lie. He just wanted to be shocking and plant the idea in the jurists heads. Hopefully, they will heed HHJP's jury instruction that Opening Statements are not evidence.

MOO

I think it's safe to say that today was emotionally exhausting, no?

What was the biggest shock of todays first day of trial?

There were a lot of shocks today! I voted for "that George told the truth", but I could have easily gone with the "sexual allegations."

I expected the defense to claim that Caylee's death was an accident and I also expected Casey to claim abuse, including sexual abuse because Ann Finnell included abuse/sexual abuse in her questioning of potential jurors during jury selection.

But................I didn't expect JB to be so graphic in his description of the sexual abuse; I also didn't expect JB to include George in the accidental death.

But the one thing that was a big shock was George telling the truth. Watching CA and GA sit in the courtroom expressionless, I had the impression that they were well aware of the allegations that were going to be made. After hearing George at the March hearings say that he would do anything for his daughter, I thought he'd go along with the defense's allegations.

I'm so glad that I was wrong and that George told the truth! I hope that both Cindy and Lee will also tell the truth! I think the Anthony's attorney, Mark Lippman, is to be credited with helping George to get to the point of telling the truth.
