2011.05.24 - What was the biggest shock on the first day of the trial?

biggest shock today is that i think defense has used many of our thoughts and devil advocate posts - once i posted if of accident and someone gave casey a dead body . now the say george gave her the dead body!! omg!!seems to shock of lies they can use for defense. Long ago before we spent hours posting and reading every detail we could find- us websleuthers are known for checking out other sites for info too- we posted our first thoughts. I posted long ago what if someone gave casey a dead caylee? What if she just told someone take the lil snothead, I need a break . Maybe someone told her they could get some one to adopt her , human traffic her, in the end casy gets money and has her good beautiful life she craved. She gets her tattoo, parties with no worrys, only problem she has it what the heck can she tell cindy , george when they ask for caylee? So she avoids them, lies, she already had a nanny story so maybe she thinks- yeah - that nanny has her and will not give her back to me cause she fell in love with her. Then she thinks - no- the nanny stole her. that sounds good. Maybe at that time caylee was alive. MAYBE SHE WAS DEAD BY ACCIDENT. IN THE BEGINING I THINK I REMEMBER CASEY SAYING SHE WAS AFRAID OF WHAT CINDY WOULD SAY OR DO. If casey gave someone caylee and she had given her something to make her sleepy and got a call - hey the kid will not wake up- shes dead - the lies must begin. If she herself found caylee dead, forgot her in car, heat, drugs, medicine, add other ways pool , anger she must act as if caylee is alive. party. so far everyone believes caylee is ok. If someone or herself found caylee dead- she had to get rid of her. the lies are a whole other story as we know she does that well. I just wonder if in the end jose will finally say when the truth comes out you will understand. I really think casey did not actually murder her but did contribute to the death by being able to do something that made caylee die by accident. yes, it was her fault or someone elses but then she or someone else had to dump her. the story begins- who what when where why. some we know- some we only guess. going to hearing today to hear if they think her mental health is an issue- oh my- lol.
If we try to seperate how caylee died from caseys reactions., non reactions. lies and behavior we may have a better way to keep it all in seperate issues. maybe some of it will come into place of the truth. no one can outdo caseys lies- do not even t ry to figure out why. Somewere in the lies is a reason. she thinks no one will think she lies AND THAT IS SCAREY IN ITSELF.

I am not shocked at all by the word itself. I was a little shocked that JB actually said George's was in her mouth. I am pretty sure that Casey has had lots of them in her mouth, I just don't for one nanosecond believe that George's was one of them.

What was the biggest shock of todays first day of trial?

It has been 3 1/2 hours since court recessed and I am STILL trying to wrap my brain around what happened in there today. Seriously. My mind is still reeling.

I do know that I was NOT thinking, "AHA!!! Now it all makes sense." In fact, it was about the furthest thing from that. For the first 20 minutes I thought, "okay, this is all BS but JB is doing better than I expected" (keep in mind I had very, very low expectations). Okay, so he's going with the accidental drowning theory...then he threw George into the mix suggesting he was part of the cover-up and the legal side of me thought, "uh oh...shouldn't have pinned yourself in with that one"....and then I heard the insanity about Roy Kronk and was :shocked2: --- and I'm also supposed to buy that Casey is such a helpless victim that she was sexually molested by BOTH her father and her brother... Yep. That is what Mr. Baez would have the jurors believe. All that. All those people hurt his helpless, innocent, poor client. Did all they conspire to ruin her life? Wonder if that will be the next chapter....

At this point I am thinking - Jose, you might very well have just personally put the needle in your client's arm today. Jurors use common sense and the truth just is not that confusing or dramatic. There is no way Jose Baez is going to have an ounce of credibility left after all that fiction he spewed at the jury. In totality, the accusations are so outrageous and disgusting that I believe this strategy is going to offend jurors even more - in addition to the charges for the crimes which she is already facing.

What decent person would ever falsely accuse their own family and allow them to take the fall when it is clear they are already emotionally devastated due to your own actions? Only a purely evil person could do that. I have never loathed Casey Anthony more than I do tonight.

My thoughts exactly. Seeing the 180 GA did was shocking, in a good way. Caylee is a little more at peace tonight.

If this was just an accidental drowning. why didn't they go to the police before now, attorneys before now, before they went thru weeks of jury selection. just say it was an accident, she panicked because her mom would be so judgemental....which i would believe. but after all this time, 2 years in jail, when you are supposedly innocent? no. I do believe that GA is telling the truth. I don't believe Casey, and I really don't believe what Cindy says. JMO.

I started watching the Defense opening statement tonight from the WFTV raw video archive and honestly, I can't continue watching Baez spew that vile, despicable theory...I am disgusted with this DT and with Casey -- I give George credit for keeping his composure today. As much as I believe in our justice system, how can a defense attorney stand up and throw insane accusations like these at innocent people in a court of law?

I was following the WS thread from work and couldn't believe what I was reading. Thank you everyone for keeping those of us who couldn't watch informed...so appreciate it.

Can't say I was shocked but was surprised by many things. Most have been mentioned in this thread, but I would like to list 2 more suprises that I don't think have been covered in this thread.

#1 Baez said in his opening statement while referring to George and KC that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" (Casey inherited her dad's bad traits). He then proceeded to paint George as a liar, irresponsible and a purveyor of incest. He would harm his own child.
As a juror, I would see that as affirmation that KC - like her father - would lie and steal and even be capable of harming her own child.
What was Baez thinking?!

#2 Baez went to great lengths to tie George to the Henkel duct tape. He described it as rare and unusual and was found in George's house and in a photo at the tent at the mall. Doesn't Baez understand that associating this rare tape with George also ties KC to it? She lived at the house also and would have access to it. The jurors will jump on the opportunity to consider where this tape came from and Baez has lost his chance to claim that there is nothing special about this particular about this roll of tape.
What was Baez thinking?!

I'll go first. For me - it was JB saying those horrible, heinous, dispicable words about GA and ICA. When he said that I literally shut down. I listened to the rest of it - but my brain just could not wrap around what he saying.

You have to wonder what kind of person could make those accusations, KNOWING they are false or at the very least come from a pathological liar. I guess I've had a sheltered life because I thought an educated professional would have boundaries.

I almost choked on the irony of Baez impugning Kronk's character and calling him morally bankrupt for selling a non-caylee pic for 15k...less than a tenth of what Baez got for the pictures sold by his client. Plus, considering Baez's past, he is throwing stones in a glass house.

For me, I have to admit that the biggest surprise that shouldn't be a surprise, was the defense seems to center around "Poor Casey Anthony" ... This trial is here for justice for Caylee not Casey. The defense, and Casey has been blaming the "Nanny" for years. But now, the case is leaning towards accident, and blame of the parents? Casey is innocent, and a victim? COME ON! If I am Casey arrested several times, and offered a deal, why not claim accident at the time?? Why deny with immunity on the table? I also think back to the recorded Jail house visits. Did Casey look and act like she knew the truth about George? No.. they pleaded with her.. begged to find their grandchild. I do not see the "cover up accident" as a valid defense. Justice for Caylee, not Casey.

There were so many shocks today and the day has been so emotional that I am exhausted.

But one of the biggest shocks for me as I sit here tonight mainly reading the posts of others because I have flatlined is realizing that Baez has blown the case so badly. I never expected him to put on any kind of Defense with such a guilty client, but to lose this badly on the first day? Your career as a Defense Lawyer ended today Jose. IMO.

The SA is going to crucify him for the rest of this trial. As Bill S. put it so well, It's over.

The biggest shock today was how low and despicable the DT went and JB saying the P-word.
