2011.05.24 - What was the biggest shock on the first day of the trial?

The biggest shock today was how low and despicable the DT went and JB saying the P-word.

When I realized that GA was NOT going to fall on his sword, I slammed both hands down on my desk, and yelled,

YES! YES! YES!​

Good thing no one else, but the dog and kittie were here, they would have run for their lives. :floorlaugh:

I was shocked when he said that and also when he said that Casey performed OS on her own father.

I am thinking the SA will sleep well tonight. . . they have their ducks in a row and will tick off each and every allegation that JB made today with as many facts as they have available.

First let me thank Beach for her post as I have been feeling conflicted.
I have never felt sorry for GA until today. Then on the other hand I feel conflicted cuz he and CA locked themselves into certain things.
I truely believe ICA murdered Caylee all by herself, no if's and's or but's. There is no way that ICA would have spent almost 3 years in jail by herself had she had help from George. I'm sure she would have made him sit right along with her.
What I'm conflicted about is the hem hawing GA did about the duct tape, gambling stuff, his marriage and gosh I just can't think of it all at the moment. Is it because they have locked themselves into their statements/depo's?
Baez's bs about Mr Kronk is so outrageous, I hope to heaven the jury see's it.
I don't believe GA or LA molested ICA at all, I think ICA did read the Flowers In The Attic" series.
I don't know. I think if I had been GA I would have exploded and told all I knew about ICA. ICA didn't want him around because she knew that he was on to her. I've heard you can't con a con.
I really can't wait to see if CA runs G & L over with that bus as I don't trust her any more then I do ICA.

There were so many shocks today and the day has been so emotional that I am exhausted.

But one of the biggest shocks for me as I sit here tonight mainly reading the posts of others because I have flatlined is realizing that Baez has blown the case so badly. I never expected him to put on any kind of Defense with such a guilty client, but to lose this badly on the first day? Your career as a Defense Lawyer ended today Jose. IMO.

The SA is going to crucify him for the rest of this trial. As Bill S. put it so well, It's over.

I think Bill S is right, it's over. JB took his little tale way too far, too complicated and just plain unbelievable.
My head is still spinning from JB jumping all over the place with his OS, throwing in little tidbits here and there with no rhyme or reason.
It's been a long day, a good night's sleep is in order to listen to Cindy tomorrow.

I can see LDB using Jose Baez' words against him in her closing arguments. She will take everything that he said, word-by-word, phrase-by-phrase to expose the lies that he told during his opening statement. jmo

You know, the biggest shock for me is the entire opening statement by Baez. It seemed so amateurish. I am just blown away that I'm watching a death penalty trial, with this caliber of representation! I'm just now picking my jaw up off the floor, because her defense is laughable. I get the feeling JB has just given up, and isn't trying anymore.

the biggest shocker for me was the fact that ICA was so willing to destroy the only family she has left, on the very miniscual chance she has of getting off on these charges. I have thought all this time that it was probably an accident that she tried to hide because she had a hot date..then it all spiriled out of control... but now, seeing what she is capable of doing to the ones that love her, first hand... not so sure there really was an accident.

Respectfully, I don't understand why so many people are shocked and bothered by the 'p' word. A 'p' is a 'p'... it's the anatomical/proper word for that 'part' -- It's not a 'dirty word'. Baez didn't use some nasty slang word, he used the word a doctor would call it. Why is that shocking and inappropriate? I'm not defending the DT, I just think the hoopla surrounding that particular word is uncalled for.

To me it was not so much the P-word, but where Jose said GA put it...just plain crass! :sick:

Bombshell tonite (a few months from now): Casey Anthony accuses her attorneys of molestation, rape, inadequate defense...Let's face it...because Caylee drowned herself, because Cindy left the ladder down, George molested Casey (which basically clears her of any lies, responsibility for anything), George wasn't paying attention when Caylee "drowned" (nevermind what Casey herself was doing at the time, at home, with her "work"), George, not Casey, found Caylee, George blamed Casey (not trying CPR nor calling 911) and there...the Defense story ends. I am with wftv's correspondent (schaeffer--misspelled) if this was not a death penalty case before...it is now. She, the defendent has no soul, and no explanation for the lack of one. She is a victimizer who blames the victim. And if ya'll can't see that, I can't blame you...I can only just ask, "where is your wallet/wife/husband/son/daughter/priceless antique/heirloom/etc...at this hour...?"

2) The Roy Kronk mess. I can't wait to see how JB ties Kronk to Caylee's body and how he supposedly came into posession of it.

One would hope that she would, rather than continue to waste tax payer money. But you would (a) have to ask a vetted legal expert (not me) and (b) check how much money is still in her commissary account (because after today, her parents won't be making any more deposits, JMO). Casey Anthony pleads...guilty...I can't see happening...look at how the JB in his opening statement made sure that Casey was obsolved of any responsibility. She lies. She was raised to. She hid the truth. She was molested and afraid. Caylee drowned. She wandered into a pool because Cindy left the ladder up and George wasn't paying attention (because Casey was so hard at work at her "job"). I could go on and on but I won't. Sadly, for Defense attorneys everywhere sociopath does not = insane. And what a tragedy to the progress of human kind would it be to eliminate someone like Casey. :floorlaugh:

The Defense are still walking ICA down the corridor and they haven't reached Death Row yet although thanks to JB's opening they are in the right building and it is only a matter of time. She has until the Jury announces a verdict is reached IIRC.

I almost choked on the irony of Baez impugning Kronk's character and calling him morally bankrupt for selling a non-caylee pic for 15k...less than a tenth of what Baez got for the pictures sold by his client. Plus, considering Baez's past, he is throwing stones in a glass house.

Right, but as JB pointed out so cleverly, RK smokes cigarettes. Therefore JB can accuse RK of anything and it must be credible. *eyeroll*

i do not understand how so many of you are surprised that ICA, whose lies know no bounds, would tell serious and disturbing lies about her father, in order to escape justice, lwop or death.

I don't get it.

For me, it's those jailhouse video's of Casey telling her father that he's been a good dad.
She seemed emotional when he said he wished he would have done a better job being a father, and she reassured him he's been good to her and Caylee.

I watched that video again this afternoon and literally cried. How can someone have tears telling their father such a thing then turn around and knowingly allow anyone to make those statements about him?

I suppose it takes a certain type of blood running through your body...

I do feel the reaction we seen in Casey today was not that this is truth as she knows it, but hurt that her daddy wasn't willing to play along to save her life. She expects it of her family.
It's terribly sad.

The biggest shock was actually hearing J.B. go with the theory that Caylee accidentally drowned in the swimming pool while G.A. and Casey were at home AND hearing the sex abuse allegations that Casey is making against both G.A. and L.A. Even though both of these defense theories have been brought up multiple times on these boards, to hear it actually spoken in court was shocking, in my opinion. I expected Casey to through her family under the bus but I thought that J.B. would do that on Casey's behalf during a penalty phase and not in opening statements.

And no, I'm not buying into the defense theories about how Caylee died. I don't buy that G.A. or L.A. molested Casey. I don't buy that R.K. did anything wrong before or after he found Caylee's body.

I was surprised at how stoic both G.A. and Cindy were sitting in the courtroom, since they had to listen to all of those opening statements.
