Update:

"The dog was taken to the Pet Resource Center in Tampa.

Later this afternoon,
on the Facebook page for
Lost and Found Pets of Hillsborough County,
the five-year-old pup has been returned to his owner.
It is not known who tied him up."

His history:

Did his family evacuate and leave him behind? Would love to know the whole story.

No idea.
I live in Europe and only post links.

Florida is good at power restoration.
Should see number improve throughout the day.

3 million customers without electricity in Florida.

Just got to North Tampa / USF area.
This area is underwater and Hillsborough deputies are rescuing people.

I'll be very curious to see how Tampa General Hospital's AquaFence worked out.

I imagine when they built the hospital the land was free, but right on the water in a hurricane-prone bay just seems like a large predictable problem, especially with global water levels rising, not dropping.

Meant to copy @IceIce9

The dog was tied to a fencepost ahead of Hurricane Milton’s arrival. A FL state trooper rescued the animal. The cruel person/people involved have not been located yet. jmo

DO BETTER: As Hurricane Milton bears down, Tampa troopers rescue a dog left tied to a fencepost.

FHP Troopers rescued a dog left tied to a pole on I-75 near Bruce B Downs Blvd this morning. Do NOT do this to your pets please…

Well this is interesting, a good reminder to be careful when you try to help - JMO
I get the feeling he has mental health challenges and his small sailboat is all he has between him and homelessness.

I bothers me that he is getting all this publicity, which is likely not helping things at all. It is good that he weathered the storm OK, as I fully expected to see that tiny little boat with no rain or surge protection to get swamped and sink.

That's what I'm thinking. We see lots of dumped dogs where I live. Maybe they were going to a place that wouldn't take him, so they dumped him in a very public spot.

Haven't been able to get through to my family just yet, cell and home phones are still out. Power went out there before Milton even started coming ashore, so they're probably still dealing with that. I'm thinking positive!

"A hurricane hunter
who ventured into the eye of 386 storms took one last journey after his death.

The ashes of Peter Dodge,
a former meteorologist for the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), were dropped from a plane and into the swirling center of Hurricane Milton Tuesday evening.

Dodge's ashes were draped in his home state of Florida's state flag,
were swaddled with his flight suit name tag
and a patch denoting the scientist's hundreds of storm missions.

The scientist's friend and former boss, Frank Marks,
did the honors of releasing the ashes —
ending the tribute by logging Dodge's final flight tally at 387 hurricanes."
