Because he thinks he can manipulate women.

And as we saw when he was questioned being confronted by grown men makes him cry until he throws up.

Exactly!!!! When he comes up for parole even that should be documented. That is FU

  • #283
Exactly!!! IMO he is trying to leave some doubt in people's minds that Tara was in some way a part of this or to blame. What a piece of crap!!!!

Good Point!!! I agree with that too..

So is this in total 45yrs? I dont get it. 25 for murder 10 for the sexual assault and 10 for abduction? When they said he has a chance of parole in 2034 that is only 22yrs, is that minus the 3 the dirt bag already spent in jail??? ARGH!!!

Yes, unfortunately we have a special deal for criminals with concurrent sentencing, "all you can eat for one low price". At least he's not getting the 2-for-1 credit they used to get for time served.

I hope we have legal experts explain the sentence. I don't get the 25 + 10 + 10 but he's eligible for parole in 22 years. :waitasec:

I couldn't agree with you more. It would honestly torment the hell out of me if I were in her shoes now. The proof is still in the evidence and I don't believe for a second it would change her mind of the verdict, but I know I would always wonder what it is he knows and wants to say to me.

Why offer it to Tara and not Rodney?

there is no way to gage truth with Rafferty. Tara IMO should not put herself or her family through it. Ignore him. Do not give him the satisfaction or the last word. Just leave him be and let him rot in jail Tara. He can only hurt you more; not help you with answers. MOO

Yes he is in his early thirties, he will served 25 years (85%) of his time possibly of that for 1st degree plus 10 years (again 85%) for other charges so 35 years -30% ...don't quote me but that's how I think this works

Actually the date given for first eligible parole is twenty two years from now. Three years served going to trial. Twenty two remaining on a minimum twenty five years. The kidnapping and rape are served at the same time as the murder charge.

I don't like the possibility he could be released even if everyone thinks his parole will be denied. You never know what will be happening twenty two years from now.

And I really don't like that he has HOPE that he will see the outside again. I want that door to shut behind him with the thudding sound of forever etched in his mind. He doesn't deserve hope. Tori didn't have any.

Mike Knoll: Thank you to all who have joined me on these daily feeds for the last two months. This story has been a big part of my life for the last three years. Today was a cathartic experience reading all of your emotional words for Tori.

Thank you all for your thoughts and your tributes to Tori. She has truly touched us all.

Justice has been served. The jury deserves all of our thanks and respect. The family will be in my thoughts forever.

RIP Tori.

Thank you LFP for the awesome coverage of the trial!!

Yeah, the concurrent sentences really suck. And Canadian judges more often than not give lenient sentences for rape related crimes.

imo

Both Tara and Rodney say they blocked #Rafferty out while he addressed court.

Concurrent means all three sentences are served at the same time. So on one hand it appears that he isn't really punished for the rape and kidnapping, but they were the aggravating factors that got him twenty five to life for the murder.

He has already been in jail for three years, that is time served towards the twenty five making him eligible for parole in twenty two years.

I thought 1st. degree was automatic 25 years to life. I guess that's the max our Canadian Justice System allows? Why can't he serve 25 +10 +10 and be eligible for parole in 45 years?

Wow...9 of them were there!!! Kudos to the jury!

9 members of the jury that convicted #Rafferty return to court to see him sentenced. They deserve our thanks: http://bit.ly/K2pza3

First degree is automatic twenty five to life. He will do a minimum of twenty five, of which he already has three done, and if the parole board denies his requests until he dies he could be in for life. He was not sentenced to consecutive sentences, he was given concurrent sentences. I am guessing because that is the standard sentencing for this type of situation. His sentence in theory should not be different than what someone else with a similar lack of criminal convictions etc... would be given.

Where I live this would have been a death penalty case and he would be on his way to death row... for thirty years of appeals, but we would at least know he wouldn't ever get out.

I love Canada but I wish we had the death penalty!!!!! Thanks for the info!

This is exactly what I was thinking!

I'm glad Tara's not taking the bait -- Take a hint from Smyth, and don't let him have the last word, no matter how much he wants it.

My heart breaks for Daryn... I just want to give that kid a hug.

I know it won't bring their precious daughter back, but I hope Tara and Rodney and D know that so many people, in Canada and in other countries, grieved with them and for them, supported them, and came to love their beautiful Tori.
