Well friends, this has been a long journey to Justice for Tori.

I am so thankful the right verdict was reached but also very thankful to have "met" each and everyone of you. You have been part of my life the last few months and we had our share of frustrations, tears and laughter.

A special thank you to or mods for allowing us the opportunity to share Tori's story.

My wish is one day our children will have the freedom to walk our streets without fear! No more evil lurking. No more monsters preying on them.

Reporter asking Rodney where he'll be when MR is up for parole.

"I'll be standing at the front door waiting for him. Making sure he doesn't leave that front door. He doesn't deserve to take another breath outside of that prison."

I hope we have legal experts explain the sentence. I don't get the 25 + 10 + 10 but he's eligible for parole in 22 years. :waitasec:

All three sentences will run concurrently (at the exact same time). He is eligible for parole after serving 25 years of his life sentence. They add the time served (3 years already in prison, from the day he was arrested) as being time served which is why he is eligible for parole in 22 years.

If the sentences had run consecutively he would have served 10 years for kidnapping, then 10 years for assault, then life for first degree murder and wouldn't have been eligible for parole for 45 years (minus the 3 years he has already served while awaiting his trial, so technically he would have been eligible for parole in 42 years had the sentence been consecutively). HTH

Exactly!!! IMO he is trying to leave some doubt in people's minds that Tara was in some way a part of this or to blame. What a piece of crap!!!!

If Rafferty had anything to say that's different from what we saw in evidence, he had his chance and didn't take it. All I can surmise is that he or his lawyer were gambling on a more favourable verdict, not expecting guilty on all counts. Had they expected the verdict they got, then Rafferty would have had nothing to lose by testifying and making his excuses. Either Rafferty is still BSing or the defence guessed wrong and blew it. Ultimately it would have been Rafferty's call whether to testify, so he has no grounds for appeal on that account.

I just took a break to watch the TV news and the media seems to feel this conviction is bulletproof.

He didn't cry for the 3 months he let Tori lay under those rocks..he didn't cry when the trial was on with all the gruesome pictures..I'm sure if he crying now its for his own situation....nothing to do with the little girl who suffered terribly at his hands....

Actually the date given for first eligible parole is twenty two years from now. Three years served going to trial. Twenty two remaining on a minimum twenty five years. The kidnapping and rape are served at the same time as the murder charge.

I don't like the possibility he could be released even if everyone thinks his parole will be denied. You never know what will be happening twenty two years from now.

And I really don't like that he has HOPE that he will see the outside again. I want that door to shut behind him with the thudding sound of forever etched in his mind. He doesn't deserve hope. Tori didn't have any.

Sorry I forgot to add the time served already, so I guess this means that there is no "good behaviour" applying to this sentence because I know the gov't doesn't want to feed and pay for these people eternally so they usually serve up to 85% of their time, I know it's that in the US but not sure in Canada. Not that I want him to see the light of day ever again, I'm just talking about the laws.

Also, what puzzles me about what MR said to Tara is that even the grandmother or the aunt not sure which one said in her statement today that they will never know what really happened. To this day, they are still saying this even though it sounds pretty cut and dry to me. IMO I think MR definitely does not want his family to believe that he actually did this and also because he will appeal it so claiming his innocence was IMO inevitable.

Rafferty entered and sat down right away, didn't check himself out in glass as he did during trial. He appears unshaven, hair more messy.

Rafferty looking tired. More unkempt than normal. Didn't shave today. His hair isn't done, messier than normal.

It's obvious he only cared about looking good for the jurors, yet he couldn't move himself to look presentable when saying 'how sorry he was' to the victims of this horrific crime.

I agree with you 100%!!! That or castration. I know the states is fighting for that now to change the laws, they don't want pedophiles in prisons anymore, they want them dead and I have to agree, since if everyone knew that if you are found guilty of that crime you would be killed or castrated, you would think twice before doing it, there has been more of these crimes since the death penalty was taken away in most states and less in the states that still use it.

Five states had passed laws saying they were going to be able to execute anyone guilty of capital rape, a victim twelve or younger. Our supreme court overruled them and they had to repeal those laws. They basically said it was unconstitutional and that we don't execute people that haven't killed their victim.

Unless of course you commit treason. You can't f@ck the government, just children.

As you can guess I disagree with the supreme court on this one.

When I was asked write my statement, I didn’t know what to write. What is there to write when there are no words to describe the impact this whole thing has left on me. Not everyone knows how it feels to have your world ripped out from under you in less than a day.

I really dont think he will be let out. He is likely going to appeal the charges since he thinks he so innocent but he will be denied in my opinion.

If I am alive at that time I think I would head over to those doors as well and make sure that that monster doesnt get paroled.

Countless times we as a family have sat and tried to figure it out, along with people all across the country, all wanting answers.

Well the sentence was what we expected, I guess. I hope he is never, ever granted parole.

He was clearly crying just for himself, probably thinking how these victim impact statements were messing up his chances of getting a lighter sentence. He sure had no tears for Tori during the trial.

And I think his offer to talk to Tara privately is the most disgusting thing. Just disgusting. If he had something to tell, he had his chance. All he's doing is twisting the knife a little more, and exerting the last tiny bit of power he has: hey, Tara, I have a secret, I know all about how your little girl died, play my game and I'll tell you. But of course it wouldn't be the truth (even if it was, how could you trust him?) and he's just trying to pile a little more suffering on a woman who has had more than anyone should have to bear.

Sorry, I am a bit behind......but what an @@#$$% to suggest this! I hope poor Tara does not fall for this! Either way her mind will never be at rest after this stupid, stupid comment! She will be damed if she does and damed if she doesnt. This makes me sooooooo angry!:furious: As if he has not done enought to mess with everyones minds!:banghead:
